PC players, how do you cope with the terrible performance in Online?

In Singleplayer, i get about 150FPS with settings nearly on max (except advanced settings). In Online, i get 60-80FPS with drops to 50s at both low and ultra. My GPU and CPU usage is extremely low, so that's why i get no FPS difference at low/ultra. I've seen someone saying that this is caused by the tons of Online free mode scripts running in the background. I really want to play Online actively, but ultimately the performance just throws me off every time. With the news of a brand new location coming to Online, i'd seriously love to return to Online but i don't expect Rockstar to do anything with the performance because it would most likely require them to re-do the code. Does anyone here have any workarounds that increase FPS?

I'm on my gaming laptop, 4gb 1050ti and 16gb ram i7 7700hq. I get 60 frames max (limited by the screen refresh) and it drops to 30 naturally at speed. The worst part are modders spawing in large props like cargo jets and UFOs. Constant explosions and a large number of players nearby. Sometimes it drops to an unplayable 15fps with all the props flying around. There's no real fix other than making your game look like CSGO on lowest settings.

I'd settle for quicker loading screens, no freezes or infinite loading screens. Lately just getting into the casino or nightclub garage is a good 5 minute+ loading screen.

The game has a lot of room for improvement, especially on PC, however rockstar probably won't fix much.

I had same problems. I fixed them by not playing.

I really wish i'd be joking now, but that's how it is.

GTA V - somewhat like GTA IV, isn't really a well optimised game and will make demands on your CPU more so than other top tier games.

I'm using a Ryzen 7 2700, RTX 2080, a 750W Bronze PSU and 16GB of 3333mhz CL16 RAM and I use my main TV (getting old now, max resolution of 1080p) and there's particular areas that I use to "test" the game in terms of performance, and at 1080p, I'm getting less than 60fps in these areas with the CPU and GPU usage sitting around 60%. No one single core of the CPU gets higher than 80 or 90% usage either, and the only time I see GPU usage as high as 99% is when generally when I'm streaming the game (and then the 99% number makes sense as, controversially, I'm using the GPU to encode stuff rather than the CPU).

It's a pity really but I guess we won't see changes to that sort of thing in GTA V's lifetime. I'll hold an inking of hope that the team(s) look at things again for when the game re-re-releases on PS5 and Xbox X, but it'd seem from talking to others that GTA "prefers" the GTX cards more than the RTX cards.

I dunno, I don't really understand the architecture and inner workings of them things - what I do know is you're not the only one with faltering performance related issues in GTA V and / or GTA Online.

There was a serious drop in performance (like 50%) about 1,5 years ago now and i spent like a month trying to figure out what happend but in the end just concluded something was changed in the game, because nothing had actually changed in any other game at all. (edit: and like mentioned sp was & still is unaffected) I've still not figured out what sort of failed update or attempt at optimizing this was, my best guess is the worst case scenario: it took them 5+ years to figure out people with higher framerates have the advantage in bscly every gamemode and theres some super sh*tty 'fix' running in the background trying to cap our fps 😆

In fairness the jump in performance between those 2 engines still surprises me to this day, IV/EFLC run like ass in comparison to V

No performance issue. I only get around 45-50FPS in busy sessions but most of the time, the framerates are damn stable.

I've always played video games at low specs, so I'm just used to it. I don't even want to post my hardware. I built the computer myself so at least it was very inexpensive.

I have low FPS when there is lot of players in the session. Usually I barely hit 60, but it's stable. That is in singleplayer and when I'm alone in session. But with full session I can get to 40. Especially when people shoot a lot. It wasn't like that, and it changed several times with updates. One time I was getting really bad stutters any time somebody near me shot a gun. But it was fixed shortly after.

My guess it's some for of anti-cheat, and it's CPU limited They are trying to balance CPU requirements with how good it is, but after time there is more and more checks, and it slows things down.

I suggest comparing full session to empty one. And imho there is nothing you can do.

Yeah in a empty session i got about 90 FPS, in a full one i experienced drops to 50. The thing is that the game runs the same for people with High-End and Mid-End hardware because it's just not optimized for what today's hardware has to offer. My friend that has a GTX 1060 and a Ryzen 7 3700X gets the same performance as i do. If Rockstar really wants to split Online away from GTA V and have it as a separate thing even when GTA VI comes out, they need to work on this.

I’ve had no issues in online, I have an i9-9900k, RTX 2080ti, 32gb ram and 1tb nvme drive, I’ve never dropped below 90 fps, though I never play in full sessions I’m purely a solo player and that may be why I haven’t seen the massive drop like you guys

That's still terrible, with that build you should never drop below 144 fps.

Not in online I’m usually around 100 it’s always lower for some reason, in single player I get 144fps+

game is designed for older cpus, it will have more issues with those multicore/thread amds. to no surprise, those having problems in a topic use... ryzen. my 6 year old intel has 0 isues.

Yeah well i'm interested in seeing how will the game perform on the PS5 and XSX since they'll be using 8c/16t CPUs. The fact that they'll have to optimize the game for that kind of hardware gives me hope.

Single Player is better than Online. You can't change my mind.

I honestly do not have that many problems tbh. Then again Im not one of these "120 FPS masterrace" guys. Most of my PC is nearly 9 years old so 45-55 FPS is pretty good for my taste.

Im running an i5-2400, a GTX 1060 6GB, 8GB Ram. CPU usage is at 95% all the time and the thing is screaming like a jetengine but its still chugging like it has 5 years ago.

Graphics are cranked up to the max I can get and the card still got some beans left according to the bar.

The only issues I have are "internet laggs" caused by other players employing laggswitches and macros to gain an advantage causing the game to get to much input from their end wich makes playing for everyone close to them nearly impossible.

I got more issues with ghost recon wildlands singleplayer than with gta online tbh. Wildlands turns into a crappy textured picture show in city areas even when I only go 5 miles an hour.
