Should VI's map be larger than V's?

I think it's gonna be bigger, regardless.

This is a silly question. Of course the map should be bigger.

I think it really depends on what the story is. Rockstar maps don't tend to have a whole lot to offer, gameplay wise, outside of set pieces for story missions. It's hard to say what the map size should or shouldn't be without knowing what the story needs.

As far as interiors are concerned, again, it depends on the game. Seeing fast food places return would be neat but if it's like GTA V where health isn't really much of an issue than I don't really see the point in them. Adding more locations for Interior shootouts could be fun but it would require completely revamping the character movement, clunky cover system, and dated enemy A.I.. All things I just don't really expect from Rockstar anymore.

Even though the GTA V map is the biggest GTA map ever built, it just feels small... SA felt way way bigger and had something special in it.
I wish R* went for another GTA title with story based on the East Coast (NY/NJ (Newark/Jersey City)) and Miami. I am sure they are capable of making that happen and what's more, the new infrastructure would run that without any issues.

I would like a map to be AT MOST 1.5x the size of GTA V's map but to use every bit of space EVEN MORE than GTA IV

Agreed. GTA SA had a very well balanced map. A large feel, three cities, plenty of countryside. (GTA IV had too little countryside imo).

GTA V map was big but much was wasted: The Alamo Sea, the under-the-ocean sections (that were hardly used in SP game or online).

So yeah, I'm sure we all want a bigger map, but more importantly we want a better quality map.

I think for story mode you don't really need a larger map than V did, but for Online you absolutely do need it to be a lot bigger

I don't see dependency between game mode and size of the map. Let me remind you, that we'll be playing this game for 10 years. Back in 2003 people were probably also saying, that GTA VC sized map or slightly bigger would be enough.

This is what we had in 2002

GTA:VC (Land Area) = 2.17 sq miles = 5.62 sq km

And this is what we got in 2004

GTA:SA (Land Area) = 12.18 sq miles = 31.55 sq km

And suddenly everyone was like "what a great map" and I don't thnk, that people complained that it is too big

Yeah, I don't really think making the map bigger is going to be the secret to making online better. If anything it'll just give Rockstar an excuse to make the business missions take longer and earning money in a reasonable time harder.

V did a great job at proving that the size of the map has no relevance to the enjoyment of the game, so no, it can be three times as big and still be an empty boring shell.

Make it small, make it good. Follow the same design principles they followed in SA, and the map will be incredible.

All the nostalgia from SA map is understandable. However, the solutions for SA were good in 2004 and will not work in 2025 or when 6 will be released. We definitely need a bigger map, but we also need decent top speed for cars to travel around this map. I used to think that SA map was great until I have actually replayed the game in 2018 or so and had a good laugh about it.

It will be cool to get the map built on the concept of SA but with V level of detail: bigger cities, better wildlife, etc.

GTA V's map wasn't too bad now that I think about it. Should VI's map be bigger than that? Not necessarily, I was satisfied with V's size. It would be welcome nevertheless. Should it be more detailed? Absolutely. Having more and a bit larger towns could have saved V's map from the hate it gets. Not everything boils down to size. At the same time I wouldn't want another map like IV's which has no countryside.

Depends on the city. If it's Vice City let it be slightly bigger than Miami in Driv3r or just as big as Palm City in NFS Heat (note i'm talking about the city only). countryside should be up to twice as big as the city in case we get only vc, in case of multiple cities, let it be an improved sa formula like Geisterfaust said

My problem with Vs map was that the city needed to be twice the size.

Somi would like to see a map 1.5x of V with a city at least 2x larger city.

Should be bigger and pretty sure it will be.

City needs to be larger and I don't care about mountains or underwater so if they decided to cut those I wouldn't miss them.

They should make the city bigger leave the countryside secondary to it

Some people say that size does not matter, it's what you do with it. But others say they want Big. Well I think that the people who say the former don't oppose an enlargement, however the latter are against snipping it smaller. Ofcourse it can be too big, but as it stands, that's not going to be a problem.😉

Do you think, that it is main problem of Los Santos in V? Los Santos in San Andreas was 3x smaller but I still had more fun in San Andreas version of Los Santos than in the GTA V version. IMO, Los Santos in GTA V missed details and interactivity, not scale...

For what reason? How bigger Los Santos would help GTA V? We would have even more of empty space...

We would have more streets, more buildings, more tunnels and more of a sence to transitioning from one part of the city to another

More streets with still nothing to do,

More buildings with still nothing to do

More tunnels for the sake of having more tunnels

IMO, none of what you mentioned would solve problem, that GTA V has, lack of possibilities and activities.

It's not like making the map smaller automatically means the world is suddenly going to be bursting with things to do in it or that they can't make a big map interesting.

Personally, I've never really found GTA's worlds all that interesting outside of the set piece mission design, the occasional pedestrian chatter, and the world building on the radio. They're pretty to look at most of the time, and there's a lot going on, but they aren't terribly engaging. At least GTA V gave us a wide variety of driving roads for interesting races/car chases.
