Schokoladeka
So I was chilling, browsing YT and then I started watching a video about "what if you woke up as a GTA NPC" and I thought it was gonna be a fun video and a nice broad smile was sitting on my face while I was watching it...up until I figured out it was about GTA Online. That's when I closed the tab. Why's it when GTA V is mentioned these days, everybody suddenly thinks of GTA Online and, well, not Singleplayer? (Rhetorical question) And every time I think about GTA Online, I feel disgust, hatred and pain. I would not be surprised if the next GTA did not include a Singleplayer at all. The next GT....lmao, who am I kidding, there ain't gon be a next GTA game. I hate what the GTA franchise has become. Americana
Who cares, I enjoy Grand Theft Auto V, and I've never played Grand Theft Auto: Online. Maybe most players don't care about some good old Singleplayer, but I do - and at least most of us in here do. SanFierroTriad
Yeah I don't play GTAO either. It seems like older fans of the series don't like GTAO, but the new fans do. It's obvious that the series is changing and R* is starting to sell out, if they haven't already. Seeing all these updates for GTAO makes me sick, and I hate seeing the ads on Youtube and elsewhere. Singleplayer isn't "dead", I was pissed when I made the thread. I just hate the fact that GTA Online looks like Fortnite and has completely ruined the franchise. I sometimes wonder if there are people at R* who think the same way? When V was released R* had absolutely no idea how successful GTA Online was going to become and how it very probably strangled the planned expansion of story mode. In December 2013 Rockstar said: Quote GTAV Story Mode Updates. For those ready to jump back into the story of Grand Theft Auto V, we have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor’s action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas. This never happened because GTA Online became very big, very quickly. Now when R* made the above quoted announcement, those plans for further adventures in story mode must have involved a lot of preparation and pre-production development by a team who were later told that their project was scrapped and that the focus was to shift and concentrate on the cash-cow that was GTA Online. We, the fans were disappointed, but I'm willing to bet that there must have been developers at R* who were actually devastated that their work was to come to nothing... VenusianDream
Singleplayer isn't dead, I'm still playing it. I like switching between 3 different characters and exploring Los Santos without worrying about being killed. I haven't played Online since it first launched and I doubt that I'll ever play it again. I wish the people that actively played Online were smart enough to realize that it's eventually gonna kill the GTA franchise. Bob Loblaw_
It's bizarre that a series that grew up and became famous/infamous for its single-player freedom and experience is now a 100% focused on multiplayer. Unfortunately I guess that's the norm now and there's no going back.(I'm not saying they will outright kill SP in the next games, just that will be the main focus of the series). GTAUrbanCamping
Ive been watching play through of the story. Before GTAO was a thing. Much better, the way GTA made me love it. I like SOME features of GTAO (Casino being one, free gambling). once the story is completed, most dont like replying or using single player open world, which IMO is better. Different vehicles spawn that is hard/impossible to find. car hauler for the semi truck, for example. But, thats what I like and mostly everyone wont care about that. The AI drivers are bad regardless. if I play GTAO, its an invite only server. No public for me. Ryo256
Midnight Hitman
In future GTA's, SP will be a short campaign that leads the player to Online, I think. Just like GTA V did. The story was utter trash IMO. They did not give a f*ck and focused on Online instead. god speed, Rotorhead359, CoolShift and 4 others 6

If you recall, the SP DLC was promised in December 2013. The Doomsday Heist was released in December 2017...four years later. Four years is a very long time for anyone in the gaming industry to sit on fully developed content without releasing it. There may have been story elements that were re-used, as in any media, but I simply don't believe that the promised SP DLC that was to feature "Michael, Franklin and Trevor’s action, mayhem and unexpected adventures" was later entirely used as an online DLC. gtafaninwest
Sure seems like it. As boring as V's story is, I still prefer it over that Online. I wish these stupid updates Cockstar keeps imposing for Online would be separate from SP, which hasn't even got an update in 4-5 years. It was stupid on their part to even merge SP and Online together. Lock n' Stock, Coloratura, VenusianDream and 1 other 3

JiaHengK
Truth is, there isn't much that Rockstar can do for the SinglePlayer side of GTA V. They could probably make a DLC which continues the story further, but since the game's reached its 7 year anniversary, majority of the fanbase would most likely prefer if Rockstar puts in more effort into making the next title (GTA VI/Six)

TheSantader25
It's 7 years old what did you expect? No game no matter how good can survive that long without people taking some time off after new titles get released. If SA is still relevant, it's because we had other GTA games to take our time with and then eventually get back to it without getting fed up. V does not have any new GTA title. People have seen the same thing for 7 years. And seeing sh*tty GTA O updates doesn't help it either. GTA IV has faced the same situation as V and is still relevant. Probably because Rockstar put all their effort into singleplayer and even gave it story DLCs? In contrast, Rockstar has indeed choked V's story mode due to their love affair with Online. Thefore: 2 hours ago, TheSantader25 said: It's 7 years old what did you expect? MechanicMammal
It is a shame that SP was not given that much love after online took off, I think they should have continued to add the cars to sp at the very least. And I am sure players would have been happy to pay for extra chapters like with gta 4. But yeah your right because they did not do these things there is nothing to discuss about it 7 years later on a You tube video so in that sence it is dead, but to a new player I do not think it is. Personally it was my least favourite story in a GTA game, I did not hate the experiance in fact I enjoyed playing through it once and from a technical standpoint it was amazing, but I could not relate to any of the protagonists and did not really care about them tbh. I think the triple protag thing was the problem for me there was no time to bond with who you were playing. So it offered me very little replay value. I loved the stories from Vice City, San Andreas and GTA 4 and cared what happened to Tommy, CJ and Nico, I liked the earlier 2d titles and GTA3, but Vice City was the game that made me a true fan of the series. And all of the games after Vice I have completed multiple times. But not GTA5.
