What could GTA learn from other Rockstar titles?

We know that much of Rockstar Games' titles play out similarly in some aspects to some extent, such as the weapon roster from Red Dead Redemption being incorporated into GTA V. But between each Rockstar IP there is some differences that I think could potentially be included or adapted to the Grand Theft Auto series that would improve on the gameplay. For now, two aspects I wish to speak of that I think could go well in the GTA series, bearing in mind I have not yet played these titles and are going solely on what I've viewed in YouTube videos, are as follows:

  • Max Payne 3 Gunplay: Just watching this on YouTube makes it look much more fluid than GTA's gunplay which, while efficient for what it it, has some problems. The autoaim aspects, especially in older games, can be a real problem in not locking on to the target you may be intent on shooting. Max Payne 3 though looks like it could not only improve the gun fighting aspects as a whole, but it could make the cover system a whole lot better too. I mean let's be honest, how many of us have died running between cover? How much better could that be if we were able to dive and shoot through the air to, if not kill our enemies, at least stun them or damage them for the time we head to a new cover spot. If you want an idea of how that would work in GTA, just play Sleeping Dogs! It is very similar in my experience, and the gunplay in that game was very good for a game that's focused less on shooting and more on melee combat, which brings me on to the next point.

  • The Warriors Combat: The Warriors is a game I will get round to playing soon, but one thing that drew me in was the hand-to-hand combat. It looks better and more varied than some GTA games, especially GTA V with it's frankly bad hand-to-hand fighting skills. I do think that using the combat from Red Dead Redemption II would be a good choice as well, but the Warriors also incorporates melee weapons into it's fighting as well, and just watching a YouTube video on a gang fight, I genuinely feel it would be a good chance for Rockstar to upgrade the hand-to-hand combat system in GTA and take the focus less from guns from time-to-time. I get guns are common in the US, and therefore GTA, but a good fist fight would be a nice change every now and then.

So with that, what aspects from other Rockstar Games titles do you think could be incorporated into GTA and for what reasons? Could it be for improving the gameplay or simply because it looks and works better? Let us know your thoughts down below, and I look forward to hearing what many of you have to say.

As long as there isn't any driving like LA Noire, I'm a happy camper

Unlockable gameplay modes from The Warriors and Max Payne trilogy. The Warriors is one of the few games I've ever played where it actually feels rewarding to do 100% due to all the stuff you unlock. With the HD Era, they replaced unlockables with paid DLCs, which was okay 'cause they' were good, but with GTA V and RDR2 we had neither, so a return of unlockables like the old games would be great.

What if they incorporate the ability to make your partner drive though? Yeah, backed you into a corner there, mate 😛

Manhunt's ways of killing people. I'm not talking about graphic violence but more on the sense of hiding bodies and utilizing your environment more for stealth or even picking up whatever is around you to use as a weapon.

Red Dead Redemption: Side quests/collectibles/100% tasks that are fun and incorporated into the world/gameplay in a natural way, give you decent and useful rewards, and most importantly can be done on your own without looking up maps online, following a guide on youtube or having to worry that you'll miss something with no way to find out what you missed

-The lasso from Red Dead Redemption but simplified as a handcuff or ropes to tie people up. Also the ability to kidnap them via the trunk. (instead of horse in RDR)

-The ability to craft sh*t like RDR but obviously with more modern stuff. Also would be nice to see some hand-made weapons.

-Ability to talk to people and have conversations like RDR2.(They can expand upon it to have more options as well)

-Beard/Hair Growth from RDR2.

-Max Payne 3 Gunplay. (One of the best I've ever seen in third person games. Almost perfect)

-Loads of interiors like LA NOIRE and RDR2. Open up all public places and a lot of residential areas.

Schools and children in the games are okay.

Setting the game far in the past is also okay.

I think they could learn more from the older GTAs than the other games though.

This!

Basically RDR2.

Your first point is a must. We've been asking for this since 2010. Heck even before - they teased it before SA but it never made it in.

The third point definitely - the ability to antagonise/rob/defuse should definitely be in GTA - including when dealing with police and gang members. Imagine cops more like IV than V, being able to defuse when they pull a gun on you.

I think GTA could take a lot outta RDR2's book. Gunplay, hand to hand combat, crouching, character interactions, hair growth, blood and dirt on clothes, children, being able to rob people at gunpoint, better heists, eating and drinking, and probably a bunch of other stuff too.

please no children if they aren't killable. Not saying I'm trying to kill kids but damn do they ruin my immersion. And there's so few of them it makes me wonder what was the point... child main characters (like Jack) I'm ok with however.

That melee combat can be fun and shouldn't be two punches and you whacked someone

Semi realism is okay

Interacting with npcs is nice if done in style of RDR2/Bully

crouching is nice

Total overdose: The fighting system is just awesome, you can pick up a car, bail out of it with while rolling, make a complete turn on yourself and shoot an enemy in the head at touching range.

You can jump against a wall beside of you and while the wall remains on your side shoot up to 6 enemies in the head before your feet touch the ground.

You can have an enemy running behind you with a melee weapon, jump against the wall in front of you, make a complete turn on yourself and shoot the attacker in the head.

These are just examples.

With a clever aiming and without the enemies disappearing wyou lose them of sight this fighting mechanic would bring the GTA's to a brand new dimension.

I think the melee combat from Sleeping Dogs could be implemented. That is not some complex combat either but it is way more polished than what we have in GTA. Then again a game that is mainly about guns can allow itself not to focus on melee combat.

Before we go too far off topic, remember this thread is specifically about what GTA can learn from other Rockstar titles.

Oh christ I missed that part. Well in that case I think the ability to skip some drives would be nice like in L.A. Noire. Although there is a taxi for that but driving in IV was a chore. If they bring back the same physics I would love to have the option to give control to my mates.
