We just saw a glimpse at a few of their recent studio acquisitions projects, so they're obviously are interested in that area. I think it was 9 out of the 18 studios? So there's plenty more to come.

Xbox for sure, because of my catalog/achievements/etc and of course Game Pass. All of Xbox first party games will be on there day one, and some 3rd party. Every game that was shown Thursday and every first party game will be on Game Pass.

Game Pass is the best thing in gaming right now, you can't argue it.

Yeah just to elaborate on what GTA3 Rockstar said. We've only seen some releases from about half their studios. The narrative of Microsoft not being interested in exclusive content is simply untrue. Remember, it was Xbox that had Episodes From Liberty City a year before anyone else back in the 360 days.  If you look at it from a business standpoint. The most successful exclusive games on PS5 will still only sell to a minority fraction of the the userbase. They're large minorities. Don't get me wrong. But we're talking about around 20%. Xbox One got off to it's worst start thanks to Dom Mattrick. The market share of Xbox One is around 50 million consoles. That's not a small number it's a small number to be risking making exclusive new content to, especially if at best only 20% of might buy an exclusive game, and that's a top game.  Sony had good figures and good projections and could greenlight and take more risk as their reach is phenomenal.  It just wouldn't be viable, even when Mattrick got the boot and Spencer came in to start funding huge exclusives when the reach that might buy the game is 8-10 million.

So, Xbox decided to focus on services and delivered one of the most consumer friendly and value oriented service. Game Pass. But then they decided to go back to reclaiming having the most powerful console (One X) which was Spencer's first console at Xbox. With power achieved and huge growing success of Game Pass, Microsoft is now focussing on getting people in their ecosystem. It's not really about exclusion. It's more about inclusion. xCloud which is Xbox's new streaming services will be integrated with Game Pass Ultimate at no extra cost. So, if you are on PC, you can play some Xbox exclusives on PC but you do it through Game Pass Ultimate. That means that PC player doesn't have to buy a console to play the game but he still pays Xbox for the privilege. If you are console gamer, exclusive games are launched with Game Pass. Then they have Xbox Access which is a 0% interest purchase option so people can buy a Series X and pay in monthly installments. But this includes Game Pass.

Xbox games & Microsoft Studios

Microsoft bought about 6 studios in two years. They now have 15 or 16 studios. We've seen some massive teasers all ready. We've seen Obsidian is making Avowed, a fantasy RPG and Playground Games making Fable another fantasy RPG. Also Hellblade 2. We'll have Microsoft: Flight Simulator with multiplayer too. We'll have the usual for single player and multiplayer: Halo (which has gone more open world and will be expanded upon like GTAO, Forza: Motorsport series and Forza: Horizon series and probably another Gears. But most excitingly, we have The Initiative.

For anyone who doesn't know The Initiative game studio. They are comprised of studio heads and leads in including the lead producer of God of War (Brian Westergaard), lead designer of Red Dead Redemption Christian Cantamessa, director of the Tomb Raider games Daniel Neuburger, and a couple of talent recruiters that worked for EA, Riot Games and Crystal Dynamics. The studio head is former head of development at Activision, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics

This ensemble is dedicated to making AAA titles. I think with this information now, anyone would be naive to think Xbox aren't going "all-in" on gaming and aren't focussed on delivering exclusives.

That would be a game changer. My hope is The Initiative is working on something like that. In their video they say the advantages of being in Santa Monica is access to Hollywood actors and musicians. I know that's broad but you can't help but think.. "what if..?"

But an open-world crime game would be an absolute deciding factor. I'm still getting a Series X but if Sony made an open world crime game comparable in quality to Mafia, Sleeping Dogs and even GTA on some level, I'd defo buy the console just for that.

I'm more surprised that Sony hasn't done it. A lot of their exclusives are third person open world games. But they're always either apocalyptic/zombies/fantasy/etc. They have the Getaway but that's been dead for years. I just want a GTA styled open world not set in the apocalypse or with super heroes.

Absolutely this. With you on that.

Xbox does it as well where it's got to be supernatural sci-fi, or fantasy but never go for adult, set in the real world gaming. I spammed their feedback box on making games like this. Adult games set in the real world for adults. Those games where you fight demons or beastly looking things all start to look and feel samey after 20 years, lol 😛

A real GTA contender. I don't care if people say they're copying GTA. A good idea is a good idea. It's a pity The Getaway 3 was canned. That was looking great.

Being a baseball fan and being limited to MLB 2k on the 360 since MLB the show was a playstation exclusive was also a factor for me. MLB 2k was different from The Show and every year The Show always outshined MLB 2k. Then 2k decided to end it since they were losing money. Leaving the only baseball game on the market a playstation exclusive. Funnily enough I actually stopped buying MLB the show since the game barely improved the devs became lazy focused more on their Diamond Dynasty/Ultimate team card mode and  it just became a roster update every year.

In a strange turn of events though MLB made a deal with Sony and apparently it's coming to Xbox and the switch in 2021. Baseball isn't the most exciting sport these days and MLB saw that they were losing a huge part of their audience that own Xbox consoles.

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-mlbpa-sony-extend-video-game-partnership

Making an exclusive game multiplatform. I do wonder if Sony San Diego is going to develop The Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions or if they are going to outsource it to another studio.

I have been a faithful PS gamer since the great PS1, it's not now that I will be making a move that it seems that Sony is not pulling any punches with the PS5.

Let's not forget that Microsoft/Xbox is making money off of their games even if they release them on PC. In fact the bulk of the money they're making in a console's lifetime is from the games, not the console sales. It seems that to some extent Sony is now also following this strategy by releasing a select few PS exclusive on PC. I think that's a good thing because PC was never really a competitor and I don't really see the appeal of buying a sh*tty box to play a handful of good exclusives.

The main reason why I'm buying the Series X is that I want to support Xbox because I see this platform going into a good direction: i.e. making consoles more like PCs but affordable. There's also not enough stuff on PS (not even the PS4 generation) to make me want to buy their console. It doesn't even support 1440p and I'm not buying a 4K TV just yet.

I miss back in the 2000s when we had loads of games like that, nowadays it's only Watch Dogs and even then it's now set in the future.  I don't even know for sure if another MAFIA game is coming out or gone for good.

Unpopular choice: xbox

I prefer the controller. And the only exclusive I liked was The Last Of Us. However with #2 being a disappointment, Ill stick with my xbox. Just sold my original xbox, which still worked, in a garage sale for $5. 360 still works.

Interesting. Shame he doesn’t explain why though.

Yeah, there's a few things that could be at play there. The fact Sony went in to a deal with Rare might be a reason, and of course, Rare is competition to Steam.  Not to take away from the fact he might just generally think it's better value or preferable. It's a great endorsement, if you can call it that but I treat it with bit of skepticism as well.

It is a shame he didn't elaborate but I'm sure now he's being hounded for a follow up.

Doesn't matter though. Valve just makes games for PCs. Unless the XSX is going to allow you to play games from Steam.

I just want a game that hits the sweet spot between the zaniness of Saints Row and the semi-realism of GTA tbh, with less satirical or period pop culture elements and references, kinda like Sleeping Dogs or the first two SR games.

A John Woo or Max Payne inspired open world crime game with Dark Souls or Saints Row 2-tier customization would really hit the spot.

PS5 all the way.

I am a happy customer of Sony since PS2 and regret to have chosen the N64 instead of PS One.

Games are awesome.

I will buy it as soon as GTAV release for NG.

Can't wait for 4K.

Xbox.

Playstation is sh*t.

Plus greedy and clearly trying to compensate for something(Bet the CEO has a micropenis lol), I cancelled my Avenger's pre-order because they had the f*cking nerve to make Spider-Man a PoS 4 exclusive. "But Spider-Man is owned by Sony" No he's not you f*cking retard! They have the FILM rights, not the videogame, not the comic, not the toy rights

Sony can rot in hell!

He sort of does.  I agree with @Zello that he's probably just biased.  He says they do their development work on PCs, which doesn't specifically mean they don't like the PS development platform, but it does make it more likely that they prefer the XBox development platform.  Tie that in with "He used to work for Microsoft" and you've got a perfectly reasonable explanation for bias.  His lack of explanation pretty much says "you like what you like".

Makes me worried of those WB interactive getting bought out by Microsoft rumors. Imagine Batman and all those DC properties being Xbox exclusives I'd be f*cking pissed man.

He does criticize MS a lot though. So, I'm not sure how relevant it is that he worked there.  A job is a job and people usually leave because they are fed up with something at the one company and another company offer them something better.

Xbox not doing so bad on the poll here, I suspect reality will be much worse than that this time around. It's going to be the first time I don't buy both consoles. I mght actually buy two ps5's

It's still doing pretty bad in comparison :D

And in other polls it favoured poorly. But, it's kind of expected. With PS4 users being 120 million or so, there are many that will continue to on with their Sony journey. Not only did Xbox One have a miserable and disastrous launch, it easily handed it to the competition on a platter. And when you have the more than 2/1 sales over the competition, you can invest new exclusives. And Sony did just that.

It was always going to be hard for Xbox to come back but I think they're doing a great job. Unless Sony, did some disastrous thing like Xbox One did pre-DRM removal, then then it will be an uphill battle on console sales for Series X, in comparison to Sony.

Since Spencer has taken over we've got The One X and Game Pass. One fantastic console and one superb service. Series X is Spencer's first next-gen console. New studios acquired and new studio created (The Initiative). Exclusives coming. Games Pass is flying and fans are lapping it up and a powerful console with added HDR and frame unlocks for all back-compat games. And we will see what the Series S is like this month.

This gen will be great for Xbox patrons.

PS5, but I’m sure I’ll end up with both anyway just like every generation.

Last generation I bought the XB1 first then a PS4 later on. Before that it was PS3 then 360.

Xbox Series X because I'm more invested in Xbox (360, Xbox One games) and even though I bought a ps4 last year I still don't know what games I want for it. I bought No Man's Sky for it because it looks better than the Xbox One version, and Earth Defence Force 4.1 for the extra added stuff, and the 5th game as well. I don't really have the time or patience for games like God of War or Spiderman anymore.

PS5 definitely is going to be my choice. I do own all 3 current gen consoles, and Microsoft really does know how to give some great customer service and appreciation with the backwards compatibility. I also prefer that controller in some ways, but Sony has way more going on for Playstation that I've had invested money and time into since the PS4 launch.

I'm probably in the niche market when it comes to this, but I've just got into PSVR and it's definitely going to be exciting to see what PS5 brings to it.

None, I don't see anything interesting in any of them.

PS4 was the last console I bought, yet I still spend more time with 3 or 2, play fun games from way back when they knew how to make good games.

Fortunately graphics don't mean much to me, and lately I've had so much fun playing COD Ghosts and NFS Most Wanted (2012) on PS3. Both games have suprisingly large amounts of players and always get full servers for both, Ghosts have a healthy 2000 players on average every day!! Custom soundtracks and xmb music for a lot of games, if not... phone+speaker=epic.

So whatever the gaming future holds I'm not interested.

Good luck to you guys though.

I'm not too keen on VR games but I did have a live-action VR experience and it blew my mind. So that's one reason I might by a PS5 in the future, especially if they have more live-action VR experiences. It's a great addition to PS5. I hope Xbox bring something in, in future.

Right now, my choice in Xbox was always a forgone conclusion but the acquisition of Zeni Max (Bethesda, id Sofware, Arkane Studios and more) really just made it really comforting and very exciting.

  • EA Play got added to Game Pass Ultimate for no extra cost.
  • Game Pass is just growing. It grew 50% this year and now has 15 million subscribers. And all first party titles coming to it day one. Think Elder Scrolls, Starfield, Wolfenstein, Doom, Avowed, Fallout.
  • xCloud (meh, I probably wont use it unless some circumstances changes and I want to mobile game).
  • Quick resume feature: Being able resume up to three games at any given time.
  • New feature is now you can download any game, even if you don't own it, for when you do want to purchase it. I'm going to pre-download Cyberpunk but I'm buying a physical copy of the game. No more having to install physical copies on launch day!
  • Backwards compatibility for a few generations. I'm still dipping in and out of GTA IV. Also, RDR (2010) in 4K looks amazing. Dying to play it after I finish RDR2.
  • And Xbox is adding HDR to backward compatible games and helping those games unlock frames. So, not only can you play your old library but it's going to look and run better.

This gen with Game Pass will probably be the best generation not only for Xbox but ever for me. PS2/Xbox OG was great but this next gen is going to be great whether you are on PS5 or Xbox. When I get a 4K TV it will be my first time 4K gaming too. This is the leap I've been waiting for. 360 to One didn't feel like a leap like PS2 to 360 did (also due to the fact there was a generation leap in televisions just like this generation).

Getting that PS5, but I'll wait for the price to drop and save up slowly for it.

My PS4 from October 2014 is still running smooth and I am happily satisfied with it and the current-gen games available for it.
