Definitely getting PS5 for exclusives. I already have a more than capable PC for mutiplatform games. A GPU upgrade this year and I'm set for at least 3-4 years,(DLSS 2.0 is a game changer) so buying an Xbox is not necessary for just for exclusives. Most of them would come on PC day one anyway though Lockhart sounds tempting if it's really $299.

If I buy one, it'll be a ps5 because I've always had good luck with PlayStations. My ps2 is damn near 20 years old and it still works.

Probably PS5 because of the exclusives but I usually wait 2 years before diving into the new generation and carefully observe the competition. I know I won't miss anything since the first two years are sh*t anyway.

X Box series X for sure. Never been a PS fan only had the PS2 for the Warriors and wasn't even an Xbox fan until the 360. But I'm not really looking forward to new consoles anymore with bullsh*t forced installs and downloads since I don't like playing online.

Keeping this open, so long as it stays civil and doesn't devolve into a console war.

I'm going with Series X for a few reasons but mostly, I'm unashamed to say I stayed with Xbox through this underwhelming generation out of convenience and some sort loyalty. I had big libraries of games that I didn't sell and still have the physical copies. All wasn't wasted due to change on management from Microsoft's CEO in 2014 who is behind Xbox and in his words to Spencer "go all in" on gaming.

Reasons I'm excited for this next gen:

  • Smart delivery: Not paying twice for games, its a nice bonus. It should be like that but Microsoft seems to be leading the charge on it. Not unique to Xbox but they have been most vocal about it and are actively pushing devs for it.
  • Game Pass: "The Netflix of gaming" as people are calling it. First party releases release day one on Game Pass as well as around 150 games to play.
  • xCloud is being merged with Game Pass at no extra cost.
  • If I can't get a Series X on release day, I can still play new first party titles, if I'm stuck, or I can opt for the cheaper Lockhart console if that comes about.
  • Backwards compatibility. RDR2 is still pretty new in my eyes. I only just finished the story. But haven't played it on a 4K TV. I want to experience my second playthrough of that game on a Series X. Also the Mafia remake and editions, I want to experience some current titles on a 4K TV and on a Series X as they'll get a performance boost. For example RDR on a One X is in 4K and it's sublime.
  • HDR and framerate unlocks on backwards compatible games:  BC games will perform better, some games that were locked to 30 can be unlocked to 60fps and even 120 fps. They are also adding HDR to those old games through the console. All my old library will run and play better on the Series X.
  • First-party games: There are so many games to play that exclusives and/or first-party aren't the biggest driving force for me but it's a nice bonus: Fable 4 (all but confirmed), Halo: Infinite, Hellblade 2, Flight Simulator, and many more we'll find out next week.
  • Studio acquisitions:  I think in about 2 years MS bought 5 or 6 more studios. But the most  exciting thing is to see what new RPG Obsidian is working on and The Initiative.

The Initiative is a dream-team of lead animators, production staff and writers from Bioware, Naughty Dog, the level designers from God of War, a writer from RDR, the former director of Tomb Raider series, the former managing producer of God of War. In fact the the former talent acquisition lead from Sony Interactive Entertainment now works at Microsoft as is pinching loads of talent. 😛

I've just always been a PlayStation guy, so I can't see that changing.

GT7 for me, new Spiderman for the lad, we'll have to share to start as I'm not buying 2 upon release, lol. Of course, GTA for free is handy, although I do understand why many aren't so keen to see that get a re-remaster of course, but like any of R*'s games I like, I'd be happy to have those games available on next gen just so I don't have to switch consoles when I fancy a replay of an old classic like RDR or GTA IV etc.

PS5 for me, the only Xbox I owned was the original, was a quality console, had a lot going for it but I've always been a Playstation man, I've had them all, never gave me a days trouble and they work fine to this day.

So it's PS5 because of realibilty, familiarity, and the exclusives, some of my favourite franchises are PS exclusives such as the Yakuza franchise, saying that I hope it's a close race between the two, competition is always good for the consumer, makes the companies bring their A game.

If Sony continues with the tradition of putting out unique and varied exclusives from Naughty Dog studio and its ilk, then I, too, will continue my tradition of sticking to the PlayStation console. Microsoft doesn't seem to be interested in that area, and so why I'm not interested in their console.

For sure im getting the ps5. Like others said, i been a sony man my whole life. Had the 360 but the red ring of death on the same console twice ruined my experience with microsoft. Also with spiderman, days gone and ghost of tsushima being sony exclusives and some of my favorite games, im going to need to get the sequels to those. Even though im a adult now and i make enough money to probably get both, i cant see myself wasting money on a xbox

PS5 all the way.

Gran Turismo 7 = Playstation 5 console purchase. Nothing that has ever enticed me to want to consider the Microsoft console and there are many games in the initial announcements that have my interest straightaway.

Just hope that the console does not cost the complete earth since I am doing a full upgrade of my system as buying new controllers for it, headset/television as well as the console itself but it will be me having a full next gen experience.

Also I suspect the PS5 will be on the market a lot longer than Microsoft's and thus in turn probably have more games over it's lifespan to justify the expenditure. 🙃

I had my 360 for a good decade never experienced a single problem with it and sometimes it would run 16 plus hours a day, that was the big Jasper Elite. I know the 1st ones had issues but they ironed that out. Same goes for my XB1 which is also the big one before they went to the slim. They are great reliable consoles so definitely not a deciding factor there. But I would rather have a cool new flash/cartridge based system that relies nothing on the internet (no downloads/updates) and still pumps out great games and graphix at great speed. I know it could be done, people just need to work on it. :)

Can I choose neither?

In truth though, I might pick up a PS5 at some point when I'm in a good position to spend the money and if there's some games that interest me enough. I've never bought an Xbox and probably never will since I've never been particularly interested in their exclusives and nowadays most of them are coming out on PC as well. Sony has actually been releasing some of their first party titles on PC recently as well(although they were still timed exclusives to PS4) so maybe I don't have to get a PS5 either.

It's propably just taste but literally none of the game makes me excited, the Sony event wasn't that great either although there were more games I liked there: Spiderman, Hitman and Horizon. Also the first party games of Xbox aren't that great in my opinion, while on the other hand those of Sony are amazing: Naughty Dog games, Spiderman, Horizon, etc.

I hear you man. Not all games will appeal to everyone.

I'm personally, excited for the usual, Halo, Forza but Avowed looks like it's going to fill my Elder Scrolls void and not just fill it but do it as well, if not better. Also, never played Fable but I've watched my other half play and one my mates. I think i'll enjoy it more now.

Not trying to change your mind, but for arguments sake, we've only seen soome releases from about 9 or the 17 studios at Microsoft. One of those studios is The Initiative which comprises  of ex-Naughty Dog senior leads and developers. Then all those first party games, the 22 of them show will come to Game Pass.

Big Hitman fan myself but sure that will be on both consoles. I actually enjoyed the Sony event too. I think I'm less critical of games than I am films or TV series. I liked both events. I'm getting a Series X as Xbox is my preferred machine and I think there's some good PS5 games to look forward to like Ratchet & Clank being one that was impressive looking. But backwards compat and upgrades to older games + Game Pass, makes me happy for sticking through the harder times on Xbox.

And MS will definitely grow into a better than now producer of games

I hope MS can stay in the Game..

we all have different reasons for our choice..

Best to each.

Yeah both have their pros and cons, I think it's just the one you're used to, you'll probably get later on as well.  Same with an iPhone or Android, once you bought one you'll probably stick to it. Personally I'm a big fan of Naughty dog, and all those science fiction and fantasy stuff doesn't appeal me at all.

The N. Bellic Man

@Mister Pink Gave a pretty good list in his first post. I'm not sure if I should upgrade my PC or buy a new console. But if I would choose to buy a new console it's definitely Xbox Series X. Main reasons are: backward compatibility: which is really a great thing. 4K on some games and  better frame rates is definitely a big thing. And you don't have to buy your games a second or third or whatever time. Controller. Even if PS's controllers are getting better Xbox has so far given us a better one. Continuity. Same as with some PS people. I'm not going to restart with GTA online or some other online games. Even if that's a bad example since my PS character (GTAO) is at level 70 or something. All in all even if PS has released pretty solid exclusives, it's not enough. I still have PS4 (which I haven't played it in years) and I haven't bought most of them. Probably I should sell it. There just not enough time to play on many platforms. PC would probably be the best choice, but because it's so costly to upgrade it all the time compared to console prices, I might still keep Xbox as my main platform. All that being said PS2 was the beast back in the day.

One thing though. What is getting really tiresome (no matter which console) is that if you have many games it's a nightmare to keep them updated. Especially if they are online oriented. 20-50 GB updates per game on weekly basis is not what I expect my entertainment to be (+constant time consuming system updates). Since this is not the case with many PC games (at least on Steam), I'm not sure if console gaming is heading for right direction. I mean what happened to play whenever you want vs. wait a few hours and see if you still got time.

I'm a Playstation man now since the PS4 but I will miss Obsidian. Whatever they release in the future will be awesome and it sucks that I won't be able to play it. I'll also miss Fable even though I only played the first game I never completed the story idk how far I got into it since it's been so long. After that I don't really care much for the rest of the Xbox exclusives. Even back when I had a Xbox 360 I hardly played them.

What will really get my attention is if either Sony or Microsoft attempts to make a first party open world crime game similar to GTA. Like what Sony did with the Getaway all those years ago. If Xbox does that I'll cry lol.

I view console exclusives kinda like sports teams and athletes. You have your favorite team that you're loyal to and you love those players. But you also pay attention to the rest of the league and respect the game of players on other teams even those who play for your team's rival. Also much like sports no one stays on top forever. Eventually those championship days end due to various reasons maybe ownership gets cheap doesn't want to pay the players and decides to blow up the roster, some players decide to go somewhere else during free agency or retire, injuries happen to your star players, and the team goes into rebuild mode that can last for a while as they try to build on new pieces that can help turn them back into contenders and sometimes they never recover. We don't know what Sony's exclusives or Xbox exclusives will look like 10 years from now.

I'm going to keep on buying playstation consoles with the hope that Agent will eventually release lol.

That would be a game changer. My hope is The Initiative is working on something like that. In their video they say the advantages of being in Santa Monica is access to Hollywood actors and musicians. I know that's broad but you can't help but think.. "what if..?"

But an open-world crime game would be an absolute deciding factor. I'm still getting a Series X but if Sony made an open world crime game comparable in quality to Mafia, Sleeping Dogs and even GTA on some level, I'd defo buy the console just for that.

8 hours ago, Zello said:

Yeah that's a decent analogy, even for Xbox as a brand and console. They really shot themselves in the foot by trying to re-invent Xbox One as catch-all living room device, ironically what the PS3 was kind of aiming at. After a disaster start they could never recover. More expensive, less powerful, restrictive before they ditched DRM and in turn not worth the big budget investment in exclusives. But Game Pass has been the saviour. It's a service unanimously admired users. It's already at 10 million subscribers. But Xbox is like that team that's been rebuilding since Spencer took over and he made his first console, the One X. And now the new next gen Series X is his baby. 17 studios at Microsoft and we've seen teasers and reveals from 9 of them.

But you should defo come back over to the dark side, man. I know backwards compat isn't a huge driving factor for many people but when I seen RDR on a One X in 4K, that's when I knew why backwards compatibility actually got me hyped on Series X, especially since I can continue my backlog but with better graphics. Getting your current games performance boost + added HDR will be nice.

I'll probably pick up a PS5. Maybe in 2 years time or when there's a reduction in price and used. It's a pure luxury to game like we do and owning a second console is really luxury and expensive, lol. But here's hoping. Hope we can see some nice new IP's from Sony too.

I mainly buy consoles for their games, so PS5. I think every game for Xbox will be on PC ( Considering Halo is available to Wishlist on Steam already ) so I really don't see the reason to buy Xbox. I get that some people prefer to sit on the couch and use the joystick, but I am mainly a PC gamer.
