I haven't seen the van / event in the usual spawn areas for a month or so, and even back then each time I tried getting close the cops would disembark and I'd get a wanted level (without any shouts from the back of the van). After that the van would be locked. 

 

Admittedly I haven't spent as long in Online as back then, nor have I actively sought out the van like I was doing. But I'd agree that it needs to be fixed by Rockstar or whatever.

Why would it appear there? It's not a job, it's a random event that takes place in freemode.

The random events online are basically contact missions, some  of them.

Erm what? 
The freeroam events are freeroam events, they're not contact missions, they don't work that way at all. 
The stuff that appears in the pause menu list is always launched via a job lobby screen - how would that work with a freeroam event? It doesn't make sense.

why did I ever think this place might be helpful

what the heck was I thinking

it was a simple request that anybody that might have recently completed it look and see if it showed up there

because without completing it myself I could not be sure

Rockstar might not use much logic - but we can. 
Does the "highest speed" freeroam event appear in the recently completed list? What about Criminal Damage? What about Business Battles? 

 

If the answer to those three is "no" then there's no reason the Patrick McReary event would.

Changing all your posts to SKIP IT makes this topic that much more confusing..
 

You cant see this in recent job list, its a freemode event, nothing about that is being unhelpful, its just people telling you the truth, my best guess is you think some MOC or Terrorbyte mission that does show up in recent jobs is a freemode event, but its not.

 

Most consistent way of getting this event that im aware of:

Go into a relatively empty (but not completely empty) session, head over too the ammunation near zancudo military base, either wait there or drive to the sandy shores airstrip and back (using the roads obviously) do this a few times, if it doesnt spawn try again in a new session.
