I am not a person who joins these forums just to complain but just as the title suggests I will not give rockstar another dime. Just spent the last 10 minutes getting blown up constantly around 10 times. This wasn't the first time this happened but usually get killed once and they do something else. I guess out of nowhere since there wasn't anyone around my area on the map. Game wise it doesn't bother me as much really just the fact that they allow this crap and haven't done much to stop it from what I have read. The hacker crap and the fact that when I skin I get to keep 1 out of 5 skins before it poofs out of my hands have turned me off of this company.  Great single player game but decided to play online with my nephew and a buddy across the country and I think I will just deinstall it and save myself the grief. Actually thought of trying gta even after I have read the hacker complaints there but now that is a hell no. Not a great business service, especially in a pandemic where tons of people have to stay home and pay for  online games as a form of entertainment. As for me, they can consider it being like skinning, can keep trying to get my cash but it's gonna poof out of their hands.

They've done a lot with banning hackers. The first ban is only 30 days and I'm sure there will be an uptick after that but the 2nd time it will be permanent. In the last 3 weeks, playing 5-10 hours per day, I have not run into any hackers. I'm not saying there aren't any now, just that they are a lot more rare than before. Before the bans started, I couldn't go 15 minutes without dealing with them.

 

As far as griefers, you can report them under the "disruptive behavior" category. It even says on that page that griefing is included in that category. Another thing is to check the player list pretty often and if you see any dark red players on the list, change servers if you want to avoid them. Some of those can also be using mods.

Appreciate the input and tips Sty. Was pretty much venting as I was consecutively killed 8 to 12 ( lost count). Blown up, respawned repeat over and over. I couldn't open a menu or even run. Soon as I repopped blown up. It's a great game but wanting to play with family and friends, will not put myself thru that on a chance I might get to play without someone doing that again. I have no problem with pvp and have killed and been killed within the game parameters. But when that happens its just over the top with no chance to even act or open a menu. Even though I know there are pvp elements in Red Dead, I didn't pick it up to pvp. I have CoD and Destiny if I want to do that.

 

I did notice 3 red players in the players in player list but when I kept getting killed I was notified that I was killing myself lol. I wasn't going to report anyone unless I knew who it was. And right before all this started,, my character just started shaking and twitching like he was having a seizure so maybe that is a warning someone is doing something shi$^y to the server.

 

Like I said it's great in single player but online it they screwed the pooch. The hacking crap and the skinning fiasco has really turned me towards not supporting them. As a trader I don't even skin every animal now. Just load up my horse with all the 3 star carcasses he can carry and go turn in. No hanging around to get pelts as it's a waste of time. I know the anti hacking is tough to get right in online games but they can do a lot better. Haven't seen anything this bad in CoD or Destiny2.to me personally. It says to me we already got your money so deal with whatever happens, we may do something about these issues if we want to.

 

Anyways, I just replied to say thanks for the tips and trying to help out and be positive about the situation. The way this has all come about has pretty much made me not want to play. And in the end I know my 40 bucks or whatever I paid doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot to them, but when I stop playing my buddy and nephew will probably stop too so that's 3 potential customers for Red Dead and any future dlc's or games rockstar comes out with.

You were a victim of a hacker. The system R* has in place now catches and bans them pretty quick based on what I've been reading in a forum where hackers talk about getting banned, why, what menu they were using, and how long they were using a menu before they got banned. Some were caught within 5 minutes after using their menu. All you can do with hackers is change servers. The hack you were victim of will always show an innocent person as the one doing the killing. Don't report those people or they will get banned.

 

I take it you just began playing recently. Trust me, the hacking now is a drop in the bucket compared to what it was. I got to the point I came on long enough to do a few dailies, usually about 10-15 minutes, then I would split and even then I got hit by them once in a while. One day I was victim of the one you got hit with just as I joined the game for the first time that day.

 

There is a light red and a really dark red color for players. It's the dark red ones you need to watch for. The light red ones usually aren't a problem. Sometimes when I enter the game it has me as light red even though I hadn't done anything. I'm an extremely nonaggressive person and never have killed anyone just for the hell of it. The other day I was fishing and the "murder" message came up and I turned light red for a while so I give light red players the benefit of the doubt.

 

I don't know what the skinning problem is. I haven't seen that. Maybe someone else can explain that one. Once you get a wagon you can store tons of pelts (40 or 50, I can't remember) and up to 5 carcasses which won't be lost even if you get disconnected.

 

The story is terrific. I've played through twice, the second time reaching 100%. That was on PS4. I'm considering another playthrough on PC.

I won’t give them a dime because they promised me last year I could play in this vibrant world for a long time to come, and make friends and they’d be the glue to hold us together.     That’s worse than any griefing or hacking or modding.

Griefers are mostly non-existent lately, on PC anyway, but I haven't seen a session in weeks without loads of fog lasting a long time and thunder & lightning when completely inappropriate, and time of day changing from day to night instantly.

The time of day changes have been less frequent, but the thunder & fog are almost a constant issue.

Also animal carcasses dropping randomly off my horse while visiting Madam, for example, trains appearing & disappearing, wolves materializing in large groups, etc.

Cheaters are still infesting every corner of R* games, and that is completely inexcusable.

 

I agree with cactus, and will never give R* or any company owned by T2 another dime.

R* has become the rotting carcass hanging over the lockbox on the ledge of the gaming world. There may be treasure lurking inside, but you have to put up with an awful stench to get close to it.

Report them for disruptive behavior, parley, enter defensive mode, switch lobbies...

 

You have a lot of tools at your disposal (though I dislike Parley because it removes

you far from the location you likely want to be in) to end the harassment.  Switching lobbies is easy and using the free roam selection will drop you in a location really close to where you were.

 

If you were truly frozen and not allowed to move, record that and send it to R* AND whatever gaming service is hosting (PSN, XBL, Steam).  If it was hackers, I assume

you’re on PC.  That’s the dangers of PC gaming - you get more hackers.  A lot more (and each generation of consoles makes

it harder and harder to hack).  But that’s another story.  I will say that’s not R*’s fault, well mostly not.  Nothing is hack-proof in this world.

 

*and pelts aren’t a waste of time, especially if you do a no-skin or quick-skin method.  Prior to the hunting wagon, PiB several deer heads, take the 3-star carcass and skin the rest.

I'd really love an LA Noire 2, but now they get nothing.

I've got a wide selection of the games since the REALLY early days - including Lemmings (SNES), GTA (PS1, GB and PC), GTA London (PC and PS1), GTA2 (PS1, GBC and PC), GTA3 (PS2 and PC), Smugglers' Run (Gamecube), Vice City (PS2 and PC), San Andreas (PS2), GTA Advance (GBA), Bully (PS2, Wii and Xbox One), Red Dead Revolver (PS2),, Table Tennis (Wii) GTA4 & 5 (XB1), Chinatown Wars (DS and PSP), so I guess you could say I've supported them in the long term - especially since so many people don't associate Lemmings with the creators of GTA - they forget about that part of Rockstars' history.

One thing I'm NOT keen on with modern gaming is the constant increased monetisation of gaming, where just to enjoy 100% of a game properly you need to buy the game, season pass, get the DLC packs (and it's never just one or two) - and of course in the case of consoles, a subscription to the online services for your console as seemingly your internet connection and you buying their physical products isn't enough any more - and that's not even going into the microtransactions and loot crates...

The sudden day/night change happens when you've been moved to another server. Before someone blames cheaters, you also lose your gold cores when you're moved to a different server which is aggravating as hell.

 

The weather has been an issue since a few updates ago. Thunder and lightning but no clouds, the same weather lasting for the length of time you're on that server, etc. Those are not cheaters.

 

Not sure what you mean by wolves materializing, but they do have certain spawn points and will pop up suddenly as you approach. Just yesterday I had 5 spawn to my right and another 5 to my left. Always been that way. I admit I do know where all spawn points are for everything so I know those aren't cheaters. Same with all the animals. Always been that way. That's not to say they will always spawn. That depends on the server you're on at the time.

 

Trains spawn in certain spots if you're close to the spot and they disappear once you get a certain distance from them and will remain gone even if you try to catch up to where you think it is supposed to be.

 

I don't know about the carcass thing but it's most likely a glitch. Between PS4 and PC I have over 3500 hours of playing time and I've seen many weird things come and go. Seems like every weekly update brings new glitches and fixes some. 

 

In the last 3 weeks I have played almost 250 hours and seen just 1 hacker/cheater, so they are out there but not running rampant as they were before all the bans started. The one I ran into could very well be banned by now. There is a forum where the hackers go to report their RDR2 bans, what they were doing that caused the ban, and how long they had been doing it before they got banned and some said they were banned within 5 minutes, so it isn't like R* hasn't fought back.

 

If you don't want to play, then don't. I don't see the reason why people have to go into forums to announce their decision, but they do, so...

I've had wolves spawn and another fresh batch of 4-5 wolves spawn while I'm still engaged with the first batch several times.

I have also had cougars spawn right on top of me while crafting at my camp fire.

 

Trains shouldn't despawn the respawn while you're approaching them.

 

The dropping carcasses from the back and sides of the horse are accompanied by the sounds of slipping ropes and the carcasses hitting the ground.

It may not be noticeable while you're riding and perhaps focused on something, but with the horse standing still as you ponder you're next destination, it is pretty obvious.

 

Regarding the weather and time changes, I have read (here) that it is due to mod menus.

If that is not the case, then I've been misled, probably unknowingly, but that's been my assumption,since I am not a cheater and don't frequent the places where these things are discussed and proliferated.

 

Reports of kkk "roleplayers" have surfaced again recently, though I haven't seen any personally.

 

I have seen players invisible on the map, yet visible on the mini map, their names hidden unless you jump through a few hoops I stumbled on to see their social club profile card which does then show their player name.

I reported one and my game crashed almost immediately.

 

I have had mystery players inside my shine shack immediately before my game crashed.

 

if you're telling me there are very few cheaters active, I simply don't believe it, these incidents have all happened in the last 2-3 weeks.

 

I do still play to a lesser extent, my post was to signal that I won't be buying any further output from R* or any T2 owned dev, if you read my full post.

I've played RDO since PC launch and have 1289 hours+ recorded by the launcher so far, so inferring what I'm seeing with my own eyes isn't happening is a little ridiculous, it is not merely a couple of unrelated anecdotal incidents.

 

The main point is that the issue of a complete lack of any effective anti cheat measure is a blatant disregard for one's product and it's intended users, unless of course the cheaters are the intended audience, which is entirely possible given R*'s design attitudes.

 

Much like selling faulty products knowingly, accepting a high percentage of failure, and lack of any concern for rectifying these issue to customer satisfaction, this is what leads to my intent to no longer be a customer of this company.

Quietly fading into the background serves no one but the purveyor of such trash, and I'll not help to perpetuate the decline of the game industry by simply remaining quiet about it.

I have checked the player list every time the time of day changed abruptly and the names were all different.

 

As I have stated, I have seen 1 hacker in the last 3 weeks playing an average of over 10 hours per day. I'm all over the map every day. I can only go by what I see, or in this case, don't see. I didn't say they aren't out there. I said they are nowhere near as prevalent as they were.

 

Some of the things, such as the train, may well be a glitch. I haven't seen that at all though so I can't say what it is.

 

Saying lack of anti-cheat meaures is blatant is a ridiculous statement. If you have been playing since launch you have to have seen the extreme difference in the hacking previous to 3-4 weeks ago and the way it is currently. If you say you haven't seen any difference then either you haven't been playing as much as you say or you're just not being honest. I don't doubt that once all those 30 day bans run out there will be an uptick but they will be caught again and receive permanent bans.

 

The cougar in your camp IS a hacker. In the past I've had cougars and grizzlies drop into my camp. Haven't seen that in over a month though. The invisible players are hackers but harmless as long as they don't mess with you. I've seen them but have had zero problem with them. However, you don't know that any of those people haven't been caught and banned by now. You're just making the claim that because you saw them Rockstar is doing nothing about them, and that statement is not true. But my question is, did you report those people?

 

All you have to do is switch servers when you run into one. If that's too much effort, then don't play.

 

And yes, you can post what you want. I don't think anyone really cares who plays and who doesn't though.

I have reported people when it was clear who was doing something illegitimate, it's impossible when you're being teleported, exploded, money drained, etc to tell who is doing it.

I have also reported griefers, and more often people using extremely inappropriate names, for example those of nazi leaders.

 

That there is and has been rampant cheating in the game from the start, not to mention the fact that they're in GTAO as well, means that there is clearly insufficient anti-cheat measures in place and apparently very little interest in fixing the issue, and ban waves do not solve the problem.

Other devs can do it, the most profitable one should be expected to do it much, much better, instead they don't do it at all.

It's shameful.

 

The "all you have to do is..." is an utterly ridiculous statement, and defending R*'s shabby policies is part of the problem

Legitimate players shouldn't have to jump through hoops and be inconvenienced merely to be able to play a game they paid for, and then only for a limited time until they have to jump through hoops again.

 

The problems still exist whether you deny them or not.

You believe what you want to believe, I really don't care.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I personally can't imagine playing this game without some kind of hack or glitch, either to avoid cheating or griefing players or to avoid Rockstar's inability and/or unwillingness to fix their game.

I have no doubt the time and weather can be changed by modders, and when the time changes from 9 or 10 PM to exactly noon, I don't think that's a bug or simple glitch.

 

Though the random out of place thunder and fog that some people see and some don't, seems to be the game not properly syncing between players as they change sessions.

Apparently my PC can register the phantoms of my 'imagination' or 'lies' according to some people, since I'm reliably told it's obvious that cheaters don't exist.

I'm so glad I only play this on the Xbox

 

Though "No Man's Sky" is mainly a solo game, I feel the same way about that. I turned off cross play, on the Xbox, since I feel

the game would be "tainted" if I played with PC players who do things like use saved game editors.

 

I could have the best PC in the world, but would feel the game was unplayable since Rockstar doesn't stop it from happening.

There are cheat menus for XBox and PS4, I think their functionality is more limited, but they do exist and have for a long time.

 

And R* has posted that "So far this year, we have taken action on hundreds of thousands of players caught violating community rules across both games" in the newswire.

Allowing "hundreds of thousands of players" to cheat in the first place is the enormous fail, and waiting for them to do their stupid sh*t (many times for months) is not acceptable.

Other devs can certainly do it, everyone knows HOW to do it, yet R* simply will not.

Yeah, I can't see me purchasing another Rockstar title in the future, at least until other players have sampled the waters and provided a LOT of comments and reviews.

Being on PC, I had no choice but wait, and during that time I got to watch a few PS4 streamers on youtube, so I had a pretty good idea whether I'd like the game or not.

I feel it has much more potential, at least for my style of play, than GTA ever did, so putting up with existing bugs wasn't unreasonable.

And you'd think they would step up their anti cheat measures compared to GTA, but no, and in the time since PC launch it's actually gotten worse.

Honestly, I don't see them ever doing anything materially about it, so that's why I'm done giving them money.

 

I spent a lot of time playing previous GTA titles, including V, which was all single player, but never finished any of the stories, and they can't get an online game to really become a fulfilling open world like others can. so it makes no sense to me to continue supporting them.

Like buying a full size extended cab pickup for the carrying capacity but only being able to use the back of the cab for cargo because the box falls off every time you load it.

 

Not to mention that the neglect of long time glitches that only hamper players while flattening any money glitches immediately shows how they regard their customers.

If they see long time fans as 'freeloaders' because we play the game and don't buy mtx, then they are welcome to their short term, short sighted customer base.

 

It may make them plenty of money, but it won't do their reputation any good in the long run, but it's theirs to ruin, so have at it R*.

There has been talk off and on about an LA Noire 2, the first game was outstanding and outside the mainstream subject matter, but as it stands now I can't see why I'd even give that a thumbs up any more.

The Mafia series also tapped into that vibe a little, but was too tightly scripted for my taste.
