Zello 20,239
It was an odd choice to not have swimming especially coming out a year after San Andreas which had swimming. Don't start with the LC water is contaminated anyway so you can't swim. I'll let you know that I would drink that water.
kubon352 714
LCS is literally the same game as VC, only with different map and story.

It sure was. I heard LCS was based off of VC's engine so maybe they didn't tinker too much with it for their first attempt on a GTA on that scale on PSP and improved on it later with VCS On 7/15/2020 at 6:11 PM, Zello said: Don't start with the LC water is contaminated anyway so you can't swim. StraightouttaNewport 47
I mean I don't think it matters that much, you won't be falling into the water as often as say VC.
Fake Lilina 515
I honestly don't mind it.
Brian X 94
It may have been feasible with liberty City stories to actually implement swimming into the game just like the unobtainable mavericks as this time it was using a heavily modified vice city engine, just like vice city stories. Also given the liberty tree articles regarding the oil spillage evaporated into the water fluids throughout liberty city in GTA 3; one may assume why such mundane things aren't present in either of the 3D liberty city games. To link it back to the question of was it necessary or was really tempting to add such feature, I am personally fine without it in LCS, as there was only like one mission that utilized boats and you only needed to stop at a corona, in which if you completed the cutscene of delivering the boat of weapons to phill; you will spawn on the road adjacent to the Staunton ferry. Now lets thank the lord that there are none of the hidden packages placed really close to sea level.

GoodEveningFolks 13
Dude, 3d liberty city is not suitable for swimming. If it was added, it woud be hilarious. Even vcs's swimming was hilarious but that is not the point here

Jamasen 132
I think LCS was more an immature/unoptimized game when released, you can tell by the fact that helicopters exist, but can't be used because they didn't have time to model the roofs of all the buildings. VCS was all the stars aligning in terms of optimisation and functionality, even better than GTA:SA in some instances.

JetNormalGuy 322
Even if you could swim, lets say you fell in on the east side of portland, how to f*ck you gonna get back to the surface? unless they add climbing, you're gonna have to swim for a good 15 minutes just to reach the beach next to Salvatore's Place, Liberty City aint designed for swimming at all. 2

vcfan1991 96
Swimming would be pointless - nothing to do, nothing to see. LC has no mystery islands to explore. The map is all land-based. If I wanted to swim I'd buy a darn pool pass irl and play in the chlorinated water, glancing in shock at the naked old men in the changing rooms walking around nonchalantly.
Payne 191
Well, I’ve been collecting some hidden packages lately and the the thing is, it’s not about swimming. It’s the dumbass insta WASTED screen as soon as you touch the water. Also there aren’t many boats around the city which makes it harder to explore it through sea.

LeatherJacketSoldier 22
You know, by swimming, someone could reach the other islands early and get all of the packages. There could have been a development "error", like in GTA III, in which you could access Staunton Island and then Shoreside Vale by jumping from one girder to another in the wrecked Callahan Bridge. That way, I got all packages right after the first mission (learning how to fly the Dodo, and accessing the other safehouses), and could complete paramedic missions in Staunton (I had to cheat by setting to 0 the damage of the guns the Cartel use, because they were giving me an annoying hard time). So, not giving swimming capabilities to Toni was indeed a very bad idea, in my opinion.
