RDR2 for PC: considering purchase, several questions

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone!

I'm considering it, however there are details that I'd like to know about first, since the price is quite high for my wallet. Will appreciate your answers. I have a PC with just a keyboard and a mouse, no game controllers like xbox gamepad or something.

1. Is it possible to play the whole game in first person? I could find that it had been promised, but everywhere they say about the PS4 version. What about the PC? I'm not really into third-person only games. It's nice to have it for screenshots and stuff, but I lose my way around the game world in 3rd person mode.

2. Do I have to go online and play with other live human beings? I don't mind it very much, but it wouldn't be my preference.

3. If offline play is possible and I never go online, what part of content am I going to lose?

4. It is saying that the game has in-game purchases. What kind of purchases are they? Are they essential to play? Again, I don't mind in-game purchases per se, but would like to avoid a situation when I get only a very basic set of equipment out of the box and then have to pay real money for every gun.

5. Is there very much grinding to level up? Do I have to level up to unlock items?

I am not a very avid gamer, so, please, forgive my ignorance if I'm asking obvious things. I just liked the wild west theme and heard some very positive feedback about this particular game.

1. Afaik yes 1st person is possible although certain situations 3rd is better.

2. Yes to play w/ others you have to be “online”.

3.  If you don’t go “online” that’s all you will miss,  the story is good, the game world is beautiful especially on pc.  As of now there is no parts of the map that are different from story to online.

4.  In-game purchasing is for online only, unless you want one of the special/ultimate editions that only give a few items early for story mode.

5.  There is a typical level up of stats/gear that will make your play through of story mode easier, most guns you acquire during the play through although “online” there is a grind as you have to rank up to unlock items, and with that grind you earn $$ to buy said items.

My personal opinion is as of now online is seriously lacking content, you are always forced to play with strangers as there is no lobby choices.  The story is really good “especially if you played redemption 1”. It’s a beautiful game world with tons of things to do to progress from start to past the end.  Just remember R* announced gta v is going to next gen consoles at the end of the year so rdr2 will also most likely with either buy the new copy or buy a new dlc to play with the newest content.

If RDR2 was going to next console, wouldn't they announce it at the same time?

Online play is far better than it was. They have cracked down tremendously on hackers. I haven't seen any in almost a month and I play 6-10 hours per day. They are also going after griefers when people send in complaints about them with the disruptive behavior complaint. When sending in that complaint they specifically mention griefing is included in that category.

Story and online both have grinding but in the story, side missions are not required to be done. To get the full pleasure of the game though, you should do everything available. It is very time consuming but quite fun.

Online, the grind is a bigger thing. The content drops are few and far between. It's been 8 or 9 months since the moonshiner update was dropped and nothing since then. Judging by the high percentage of low ranked players, it appears there is quite a turnover in players and I would guess that's because of the extremely slow speed of content drops.
