GTA5 on PS5

Why would we look forward to the re-release of a seven-year old game that was built for the seventh generation of consoles that we no longer care about and instead want a natural progression of the series, but after so long have received nothing except a game that is no longer being supported after barely a year of it's release (Red Dead Redemption II) in the mean time? Rockstar don't need to test the limits of the PS5; they already know! Game developers are aware of what the capabilities will be, otherwise they wouldn't have any games to show off and demonstrate what sort of hardware they are dealing with. Rockstar, instead of taking advantage of this and developing a new high-quality title are instead putting all their focus on supporting a game we are tired of. If Rockstar were comedians, it would basically be like this:

 

They were well known for bringing us great laugh out loud jokes, and as time went on they truly became well known as talented comics, especially with other mainstream ones in the industry who are telling basic mediocre jokes that don't age well. Then one day are we told a joke so incredibly funny that it becomes one of the most critically acclaimed jokes of all time! We find it funny, and we enjoy it. But unfortunately, such is the positive response that this comedian decides to take no risks from that point on and instead will tell us the same joke a year later but with a slightly new twist (analogy for porting GTA V to PS4 and Xbox One). But then after so many years they just keep telling us that same joke over and over again, and it's just not funny anymore.

 

Then five years later they give us another great joke, but they don't bother telling it again aside from one special occasion (the PC port of RDR2) and that's it. Then when you finally believe after seven long years you are getting new material and you hear that punchline, you are then smacked in the face with that same old tired joke that not only are we no longer laughing at, but really starting to get annoyed with which causes us to resent this comedian and wish they'd get their act together. If you must insist on telling us this same joke, then please at least tell us some more alongside it, and when you can tell us an even better one, tell us! Don't just turn up to every party telling us that exact same joke with the mere justification of slightly different context.

But they would've been privy to that information that the consumers are not, and if you were to ask many of us on these forums, I think we'd all say that we'd rather have nothing than GTA V again. Some of us might also even argue that Red Dead Redemption II should've been the obvious choice if they were to port over one of their games. But either way, nobody has asked for GTA V again. To put it back in the joke analogy, Rockstar could've told their other good joke they came up with, but instead they chose the one that got louder laughs at the time of release even though nobody really finds it funny anymore. If they had no other new material, they'd have been better off just staying quiet, and as a result we are now wondering if they are that good anymore.

Your willingness to question yourself speaks good volumes about you as an individual. Ultimately that is your decision in the end though, even though I personally won't be buying it again because I refuse to support this current strategy by Rockstar. They want me to start laughing at their jokes again? They need to tell me a new one, or I'm not listening to them anymore (trust me, I can go on quite a bit with this joke analogy, and I've already got one thought of to talk of GTA's competition and the state of it in today's gaming market, but for now that is of no relevance).

Because it's made abundantly clear for everyone, even non-fans of the series, that Rockstar and Take Two want to continue to milk the online element of this game to death.

Unfortunately Cyperpunk is hardly a competitor since the developers have told us not to expect it to be like GTA before. The only candidate that you can call a competitor at this point is Watch Dogs Legion, which will not be as good in most regards because I never really enjoyed the other two games and will only be buying it since it's the closest I will get to a GTA London, and even then I'm not keen on it.

 

Unfortunately, it seems that since GTA V was so successful that no other game companies want to compete, and it really disheartens me because Saints Row used to be good until it started going super science-fiction, and True Crime is no longer a thing since it's recent entry, Sleeping Dogs, was released by United Front Games who are now defunct. I feel like the lack of competition is why drives R* to carry on with GTA Online instead of progressing the series since there is no longer a competitive advantage to do so, quite simply because there is no competition to begin with.
