PS2 slimline some freezing problems

I have a second hand PS2 slimline, I noticed recently, the system froze when I put in a memory card, or the screen when black when I did this, prior to that, the control pad would not respond to select browser in the menu.

 

Has anybody had this with this particular model, if or when you did own one?

 

It hasn't had that much use or any real heavy use, I thought may be dust inside, but a few years back, there were problems with reading blue colour discs, it is a wear and tear problem that one.Audio, and dvd's play, and regular games discs, I use an audio disc to get it spinning faster to get the older discs to spin, SSX tricky, Monster truck. Sometimes a slight skip in a dvd.

Is the memory cart an original PS2 or a 3rd party? I've had some problems with 3rd party cards on slim model. Don't know if it's the sort of thing that can get worse with age.
