The most annoying thing for me about online is griefing. It goes without saying how one might feel when someone else deliberately tries to interfere with your gaming experience without your consent. I guess online gaming is no so different from the cyber world in general: people just tend to forget that they are playing with real people and then do whatever pleases them, at other’s expense. In most cases, those griefers online would not even dare to do such thing in real life.

Other players don't need your consent to interfere with your gaming experience. The consent is directly implied simply by you joining a multi-player game lobby which has, to everyone's prior knowledge, a strong PvP, combative element to the regular gameplay. And of course they wouldn't do it in real life, but isn't that the point of games like this, that you can pretty much do things that you wouldn't dare to do in real life?

Yeah, I probably should accept the fact that in GTA Online PvP is assumed to be the norm in many forms

 except when someone plays unfairly.

Giving the game away for free on Epic Games Store has ruined the game for good in my eyes. My copy of the game is now worth exactly $0.00.

And the massive influx of new players, including a lot of hackers, and not being able to get online or even launch the game in some instances, the week after.

Yea it wasn’t bad for a while but when it became free on epic there was a massive influx of cheaters/mod menu users. I used to run into it every once in a while and when I did it was mostly just a guy switching the weather to snow etc. Now it’s almost every freaking lobby there’s a modder, I’ve gone from playing daily to only signing in on thursdays to see the deals and buy what I want, giving it away for free was a stupid decision

I feel like this game has always been ruined in one way or another, but it's easier to remember now the "golden days".

Day One to LTS

There were certain exploits that ruined some people's wishes to keep playing, like people blowing up your car and you having to pay for it, but in general the extremely low payouts made it so you could only get money if you had a friend who could host Violent Duct or Rooftop Rumble, otherwise you were f*cked. The only time I remember everyone was happy was the DNS server days in the Christmas of 2013. That time we were all happy and had as saw this game at its best. Sadly the endgame was still too easy to reach

LTS to Heists

For many, LTS was the first big hit to freeroam PvP because the Marksman Rifle and the Homing Launcher, which made the RPG (an endgame weapon) pretty much useless and started to make level irrelevant. The Homing Launcher was the end of using non-armed choppers or even planes in freeroam, plus the sniper that was rampant. Then we have Heists, those times when friends lists were full and everyone was playing at any hour was the height of this game for me, but the game was "ruined" by things like the Kuruma, Insurgent and Hydra being around, especially the latter. Being able to call a Hydra in the city was too much for many people and became the meta for tryhards. The Kuruma was powerful but still wasn't op, the problem is how both became a must to survive freeroam

Ill Gotten Gains to Cunning Stunts

I think this is the best time for many players and the times before it all went downhill. There were Lowrider missions, Bennys, then the biker clubhouses, offices, yachts and finally Import/Export, which is people's favorite updates as it became an actual way to make money that was fair and balanced. There were still Hydras, strafing Marksman tryhards and rampant abuse of EWO, but the game was at a good point

Gunrunning to Doomsday Heists

Here it all started to get ugly. Weaponizing everything only sounds good in paper, but yeah, what remained of street crime turned into full on military sh*t, and not even good at that because it all became obsolete when the Oppressor came around and ruined everything. You saw one, you knew it was bad. Then the Orbital Cannon and Deluxo came to show us that R*ckstar will always know how to disappoint us when we don't expect anything anymore. The freeroam meta (a big part of the game) became nearly unplayable since the power creep reached a point where on-foot fighting and being a good driver became irrelevant as long as the other person had a Deluxo.

After Hours to today

MK2. Simple as that. It doesn't matter how much content we have now or how many vehicles are available, it doesn't matter. The broomstick killed it all. No more running and gunning, no more freeroam activities, no more jets, no more anything, get a broomstick or die.

What I'm trying to say is that no matter the time, this game has and will always have a thing that "kills" it, and that's just sad. Even with the broomsticks, the amount of content the game has compared to 2015 (the supposed golden era) is day and night. I'm sure I wouldn't take all that away just because griefers.

I would gladly have them double the speed of the oppressor and remove the missiles. While they are at it they can remove the missiles front the vigilante ( one of my favorite cars ) and make it insurgent armored.

I'm not saying it ruined online, but it just sucks that Rockstar couldn't careless about doing more with it's customization options for player models, and it sucks that we still can't even fully customize our own clothing.

Lack of new hairstyles is also a big bummer. It would be nice if we had an online creation tool that let us fully recreate any character we want ranging from ourselves, to a fictional character from a movie, tv show, celeb, gta character, or just about any character from other video games.

Everything just seems so limited, and I wouldn't be surprised if not much changes when this thing moves over to PS5 also. Probably not in GTA 6 either.

Opressor, jet, EWO, TP to appartement, Blow themselves up instead of battle.

Yes we get it, you don't want a death on your stats. WHO GIVES A f*ck ABOUT THOSE STATS?

They be on an oppressor. As soon as the rockets are gone they need a jet, or teleport to their appartement. If they ever get on the ground or whatever they kill themselves until they can go passive or TP to their appartement.

Just battle man. :(

Most lobbies you can't just drive your cars around anymore because of the oppressors. That sucks.

People doing this to escape from battle is so aggravating. Almost everyone and their grandmother does it. I'm now even starting to see the more casual players do this and not just cryhards, and it's just f*cking pathetic, man. Like, I get if you do it because you don't want to battle anymore, but they persist on coming back to fight again after they leave their apartment, which means they're obviously teleporting to their apartment out of fear of being killed. And then when I call them out on it, they get mad at me? I had one individual go through great pains to get a revenge kill on me for killing them for their bounty. They charged at me with their Mk2, but miserably failed. They kept trying to come after me for that revenge kill, but I just kept killing them. Then they started to teleport to their apartment every single time. I asked them why they're playing like a buffoon, and they get all pissy and accuse me of griefing them, even though they kept coming after me when I was doing my own thing? All I did was claim their bounty. Stupid. Like, you're seriously going to waste your own time constantly teleporting back and forth just to avoid a death? That's just sad, to be honest.

What's the point of the battle? Why do you want to fight if you're that afraid of being killed? If you don't want to get killed by another player, then go about your own business, go passive, or go to an invite-only session. But no, they want to get kills on others without getting killed themselves so that they can feel better about themselves and their precious K/D. Hell, they might as well implement the ability to literally teleport at this point. We know they'll add anything ridiculous and OP as they long as they can monetize it. Just look at the orbital cannon.

Yeah. a teleportation trip to where ever you want to go for $1 million dollars. That's a sure way to get people to buy (more) shark cards! smh.

You guys must be on crack. Online hasn't been "ruined" for me. I still enjoy it for what it is: GTA online. But unlike the rest of you, luckily I don't have a gun pointed at my head in real life 24/7 and forced to play a game I despise and forced to come take part in an online forum dedicated to a game I despise every day.......... LMAOOOO. For real. Go play something else for a week, you'll feel  better.

To be fair, I do this occasionally if I am cornered by multiple assailants and I am out of options to escape and evade, i.e. on cool-down for Ghost / OTR / RC Bandit

Why not just EWO? I mean, as long as you're not over doing it. It find it silly to be constantly teleporting back and forth. Some teleport all the way across the map. Like, some people love wasting their time. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I just hate it when people use it to their advantage persistently. It just makes PvP bland and tiresome. I'm spending more time waiting for you to come out of your apartment than actually versing you.

What's even more sad is that many people actually defend this, using reasons like: "It's a legitimate function intentionally added into the game, so there's nothing wrong with using it to your advantage." "It's not unfair if you can do it, too!" "It's saved my ass a few times, so it's a great ability."

It's just bizarre.

It’s horses for courses to be fair. I’m very much an off-radar player tactically in firefights, in that you can’t see me, but if you do, you can kill me. Other players deride this, but they will (or used to at any rate) spam passive mode to their advantage, in that I can see them, but can’t kill them. I think that the RC Bandit or Nano Drone is a legit tactic, some players sneer at it as a poor move.

I don’t particularly care for EWO’ing, and I shake my head at players blowing themselves up constantly rather than forfeit a death, but I think that a teleport out of the area as a last resort isn’t too bad a thing.

I hate EWO as much as the next person, but honestly, I'd rather you EWO constantly than teleport constantly because at least with EWO, you spawn back close to the battle area and we can quickly resume fighting again, unlike with teleportation, which wastes a huge amount of time, since the person doing it is likely to spawn halfway across the map and can sit in their apartment for as long as they want until they think it's safe to come out. What a waste of time.

Of course, but when it becomes constant, then it becomes an issue. It completely ruins the experience of PvP, just like constant EWO. Some people are way too afraid of being killed by their opponent.

I tend to only teleport if I am getting spawn killed or because I’m pinned down and out of other options / ammo. It’s a last resort to me, I would rather use a minute of off-radar to try and regroup and get to a better tactical position.

For me personally both is equally sh*tty. That includes the people who ewo to "reset health".

If you shoot me down to low health before I kill you, you earned that I am at a disadvantage. Why should I deny you your rightfully earned advantage?

Healing up with snacks and putting on armor is fine since I cant fight back while I am in the menu to do so and at some point my supply will run out if Im not carefull.

To be honest I teleport a lot but only because it infuriates my target kill-audience of griefers and tryhards. There's nothing funnier than getting a cheap Akula derived kill on a troublemaker while they are concentrating on farming low levels. Then, when they call in their OPMk2, teleport to my facility and wait for the abuse to come over messages - then I stoke the fire by replying in kind with something like "1-0 lzzzz noooooooooob scrub" 😁😁😁

Even funnier is when they either forget and go back to farming KD only for me to do it again - or else they camp outside my facility so I go passive, exit, call in my Duke of Death (so they can't one shot destroy it) and drive off blasting sad trombone at them.

Biggest thing that makes me nearly never play it much anymore is The Oppressor unbalancing and making most stuff useless (Played last night of course oppressor tried to destroy my Mobile Base because of course.) Also the Orbital cannon and R* ninja changing/adding things to stop things that are even the slightest profitable while them touting it's a bug. If these things we're at least looked at or changed I'd be playing it a hell of a lot more instead of once and awhile.

the Ratbike MK2 and godmode griefers are my main cause for concern due to the lobbies being absolutely vile and scummy, I can't barely go anywhere on the map without a specific random following me on the MK2 and trying to blow me up to smithereens.

As for godmode griefers they have absolutely no life other than initiating a exploit which gives them invulnerability and infinite health to fortify their pathetic "precious" K/D, I have come across many of them and this glitch being implemented in the game has really grinded my gears.

@Arrows to Athens I agree with you man, I absolutely despise of players who teleport especially the ones who kill you once and prevent you from eradicating them so they teleport to their facility or apartment straight away and then never come back out until you leave the session.
