Anymore of that name calling will result in you getting a star!!

They are simply giving their views to the question/rant/debate that you posted.

On topic though. I prefer my Ps2 pad anyday but there is a time and a place for Mouse and keyboard controls. I would rather play Unreal and Sof2 with Mouse and keys..

Just a question of taste...

:)

Ah, now i get it! Those stars are the warnings you get! I just got a message from a Moderator or Staff Member that told me that my signature was too big or something like that so do I get a star too???

I agree with the first post in this topic... I got the pc version of GTA3 (having never played any GTA games before that).

The only thing I didnt like about it was not having any way of controlling acceleration or the amount the car turns other than repeatedly tapping the keyboard buttons (I couldnt get the hang of the mouse controlled steering, and that didnt help with the acceleration).

Then I bought a PS2 just for Vice City, the day it came out. :)

I now really like the PS2 controller, with its analog buttons and all... which is why I am now trying to find one of those usb adaptery thingys for use with the PC version of VC... probably gonna get this one:

http://www.playserver2.com/play247....=114167

But what I wanna know is... do all the functions of the PS2 controller work fully with it? Like the analog buttons and vibration?

Also someone earlier in this topic said that the game (i'm assuming vice city?) doesn't support analog throttle anyway? Arrrrgh....

I prefer the keyboard and mouse for walking and shooting and just the keyboard for driving as you can use all of your fingers and not just two or three. As for bikes and auto lock there are plenty of buttons on a keyboard to assign command to. Drive by shooting is easier aswell because you can drive with one hand and aim and shoot with the other.

Gandalf the Grey

I played GTA3 on the PS2 before it came out for the PC.  I've also been at a friend's house and played with just the keyboard and mouse for the PC.  But I have the game on the PC, and I use the mouse and keyboard for walking around, and looking, but at soon as I get in a car, I pick up my PS2 controller, which is plugged in using a USB converter, and I'm off.  It's horrible walking around with the controller, and it's even worse driving with the keyboard.  Get the best of both worlds, use a controller to drive, and the keyboard to walk, otherwise you are ruining a fantastic game!

I think the Keyboard and mouse might be the best thing to use, I dont how well they will do with flying though. I have no patience at all for a analog stick   :sui:

Easy as this. When i get VCPC, keyboard for walking and shooting. Game controller for driving. W for up, a for sidestel left, d for sidestep right, s for ackwards, space for jump, shift fr crouch, ctrl for enter car, mouse wheel for weapons, left click is shoot, right click is zoom, z for soom in, x for zoom out. Driving: ( i have a gamecontroller just like a PS2 one, so i will say the buttons in PS2 terms) left analog stick for steer, push for honk, right analog stick for hydraulics and helis, press down for sub mission, X for accelerate, O for fire, Square for reverse, triangle for in/out, r1 for handbrake, r2 for look right, l1 for radio station, l2 for look left, and press l1+l2 for look behind.

Keyboard and mouse all the way babay. :p  The dual shock is nice and all, but you just cant beat the free roaming mouse control. Besides, I prefer to choose my target. ;)  In gta3 pc, when I had an uzi, or m16, I would hold down the left mouse button whicle moving the mouse to spray bullets 360 degrees around me. I just cant imagine doing that with and analog stick. I(for some strange reason) like controlling cars with the keyboard as well. Must have gotten that from playing need for speed. :alien:  So yeah... :)

Well, Vice City is all about stylishness, it's not an FPS game.

I mean, the walking animations are the coolest, most stylish animations in any game ever. Like walking towards the screen in the Malibu studying your new outfit, and the animation is different depending on what weapon you have. Like walking with the chainsaw :D Imagin the Mouse/KB controls there, just jogging and sprinting with the camera locked on your back.

Or when you get a call on your phone. Just jogging around. It just lacks style.

And I just thought about the motorbike steering. When you steer you smooth the left stick up/down/left/right all the time. Like if you hold up about halfway you duck behind the glass making your bike go faster. You can't do that without an analog stick. And when you do a hard turn and hold down, your bike sways around. But if you do it too much you fall of, so you need analog there too.

Oh, and the helicopter steering.

It seems to run faster than GTA3 on mine too... and faster than the PS2 version of VC :)

I have an Athlon XP 1800+ and GeForce 4 ti4600 (using 1248x1024x32 for GTA3 and VC), GTA3 used to kind of freeze for a moment every second when I had other apps running at the same time... but VC is fine :)

Does anyone know if the analog buttons on a PS2 controller will work for acellerating with a usb adapter thing then?

I'm not sure about the style business.(haven't played ps2 version) But as for the analog stuff, simple solution for me. I'd use the up/down, left/right arrows to to do crude commands(like bank/pitch the copter) and i'd use the num pad keys for the other set of commands like yawing(horizontal movement) the heli, controlling wieght on motocycle. :)

gamepad for car, and keyboard/mouse on foot. I'm only doing this because doing wheelies on motorcycles will be extremely hard with keyboard and mouse.

Rex, what buttons do you use. I am:

Life of Dukkha

ps2 controllers will always suck for me at least.  gta3 was so damned hard because i couldn't SEE what i was shooting at.  once i got the PC version, it allowed me to actually look around and see everything and shoot with superior accuracy.  it was nearly impossible to snipe with the joystick thing on the ps2 controller; i've always been a keyboard/mouse FPS person, and that's the way it works for me.  also, driving is no problem with the keyboard - in fact i drive far better with the arrow keys than with the controllers!

  • 4 weeks later...

I have the exact PS1/2 to USB converter Eddy Millen has mentioned - works perfectly with my PSX DualShock and PS2 DualShock2 pads together, with rumble :)

Unfortunately, GTA3 and Vice City PC both seem confused by it. All the controls work correctly, except for the right stick. Tilting it horizontally will move the camera up and down, and vertically will do it left to right as well... strange since the sticks work well in everything else. Anyone got a fix for this? GTA3/VC don't let you configure the sticks it seems.
