What is this feud going on between the Gauntlet Classic and the Retinue MK II, essentially wiping each other out? Two of the best cars are in fifth and sixth place and going further down.

Absolutely, some type of revenge, I guess. See the imminent death of the Blista Kanjo, and how low the Vagrant is in comparison to its nearest challenger, the Outlaw. This isn't a serious game though and the Sultan Classic has already been established as the best vehicle from the Christmas DLC.
