It's not that the game is bad (though it is very ill designed), but it isn't worthy of being called a GTA really. I discussed at length the problems with it, but here are a few I can remember: - Bad game mechanics. Lagged controls are not suitable for the arcade sandbox game. - Overly secure, multiple passwords to log in, constant internet connection required. - Constantly downloads 5Gb up-dates that have no effect on the gameplay. Occasionally downloads a 86gb up-date, even though the game is already fully installed from the discs. - Badly designed map - all flat, all urbanised, the motorway just circles it and comes back to the city it started from. - Large masses of land is just wasted space - mountains - Wild animals kill you immediately out in the open leaving no chance to explore - Mediocre music that I can easily get on Radio 1. Some small pop names mostly. Talk radios are an absolute rubbish. - Not enough houses to buy to save given the size of the map. Inability to change the default vehicles. - The characters are not memorable... And I am not even talking about Franklin, it takes me a while to even remember the villains' names. get tf out here man lol these are the worst arguments that i ever saw to sh*t on gta v wild animals kill you?????? oh boo-hoo i hope in the next game we can pet a f*cking cheetah!!! get your sh*t together man you have a f*cking arsenal in your pocket, these animals die mostly in one shot i cAnT eXpLor tHa wOrlD bEcoSe sPoOkyy aNimoLs cAn kiLL mE Edited March 2, 2021 by dantedenirodeniro

I can understand how some people would find it annoying though. In most cases wild animals just come out of nowhere giving you next to no time to kill them. It honestly feels cheap and unfair. Funnily enough I don't think this is much of a problem in the Red Dead games which is odd considering in those games we're always in the wilderness. An extension of his point IMO I think GTA V's wilderness is "too" populated at times. No matter where I go I never really feel truly isolated. There are moments here and here, but the immersion is broken immediately when a Cougar comes out of nowhere and kills me before I even have a chance to defend myself. This is why I feel San Andreas handles its wilderness way better. The lack of wild animals makes it feel more isolated, creepy and atmospheric. This is why I feel San Andreas handles its wilderness way better. The lack of wild animals makes it feel more isolated, creepy and atmospheric. I know I didn't expand on my answers, but yeah, this is pretty much it. I remember there was a whole topic where people discussed the pre-release trailer shot of the tourists near Chiliad, and how peaceful and remote that location looked; and in the final game it turned out to be right next to a major road with a lot of trees re-moved. I used to love all the action and shootouts, but over the years I grew fond of enjoying the quiet SA countryside - I still engage in cartoon violence from time to time of course. Whether it's the 15 year old graphics or the limitations of an ancient game engine, but as you said there were a lot of areas in the countryside that felt isolated (and in fact are quite isolated). Panopticon and B'o'B have this eerie atmosphere, and your imagination paints the rest, whether it's the myth of a serial killer or the distant sounds of incoming tide and the farm machinery. Short drawing distance and the clever utilisation of height differences helped further to create the feeling of isolation GTA 5, despite its size, never achieved that. Granted, there are vast masses of countryside, but a). you can see almost to the nearest town or road, and b). wherever you go there is bound to be a house, a road or tourists. And if you walking on a mountain range, the only place that doesn't feel urbanised, a wild cat appears, rips you to bits, and you are transferred to another side of the map. You end up walking all the time looking out for wild animals, not really enjoying the isolation and not engaging in filling up the blanks of the game world with your imagination. I don't think it is physically possible even for an average experienced player to successfully survive the attacks of more than 3 cats, I mean I was usually killed by the first one if it approached me from the back. And you still have to be permanently on the lookout, which defies the whole idea of whatever rôle-playing is that you wanted to do in the countryside: exploring, myth hunting, enjoying the views, jogging. During my first playthrough of SA I was waiting in vain until the final credits that the Doherty garage will be repaired; I was kind of expecting that in GTA 5 something will be unlocked that will keep the animals away: a camouflage suite, a repellent cream, an ultrasonic sound emitter, but they didn't. I understand that my desires are niché when it comes to gaming, but I was quite surprised, I won't lie, when the lack of "proper" remote countryside was brought up on these forums and actively supported by players from different walks of life. I think the fact that GTA 5 is being milked by R* for nearly a decade now is one of the reasons why people slowly finding more things that are wrong with it. LeatherJacketSoldier
I've played GTA Advance (not fully), GTA III, GTA VC, GTA SA, GTA LCS and GTA VCS, and I have to say that the worst game is Advance, followed by VCS. LCS had a lot of potential, but one of the most remarkable things is that Cilli wasn't the main antagonist (it was Torini, who appears and gets mentioned only in two missions and his final battle isn't that memorable). The other most remarkable thing was the amount of unnecessary deaths, in which I expanded here: "https://gtaforums.com/topic/899869-is-toni-a-good-protagonist/?do=findComment&comment=1071477707". You can read the reasons for my distaste with Advance here: "https://gtaforums.com/topic/896494-does-anyone-actually-like-this-game/?do=findComment&comment=1071472884", and the few ones for my neutral to negative position against VCS here: "https://gtaforums.com/topic/967866-gta-vice-city-is-better-than-vcs/?do=findComment&comment=1071491503"

I don't know what developers want to achieve with that. I guess in GTA V it's kind of glaring because in RDR1 which came out three years earlier the animals are 1000000x better. For example they literally could've just used the cougars from that (which do take you by surprise and are very fast and can kill you if you're not fast to react, but don't spawn in the exact same location every time and don't kill you instantly in one strike every time, and also exhibit more complex behviour in general) instead of making them garbage. I wouldn't expect the animals to be as extensive and complex as RDR1 since they're not such an important part of the game but when it's literally the same animal species I'm sure they could've done a bit better. billiejoearmstrong8
In comparsion to RDR1 (which also has cougars, boars, coyotes and elk to compare, plus obviously a lot more variety of animals) they're pretty bad. There's also just....way too many elk everywhere. As soon as you leave the city limits of LS you're running over elks in the road like every minute and it's silly. And like not being able to survive an explosion if it touches you regardless of how close you are, not being able to survive a cougar attack is just lazy and annoying. In RDR1 there's a lot of cougars but you have your horse so that'll get killed first, and then it won't kill you in one strike unless you've already lost health from something else, so you have a fighting chance. There's a variable to it where you're only in real serious trouble if there's more than one or if you don't get up from the first strike and manage to defend yourself fast enough. In V having it so if you want to explore the wilderness without a vehicle you're one second away from instant death at all times is just bad design by comparison.
