4nsmiley
Carl Johnson, one of the best Protagonists that rockstars games have ever created COMPASSION Carl is rockstars' first attempt to writing a character that shows emotion. The previous roles show no passion like Claude from GTA 3, which was the strong silent type. GTA vice city is where there decided that a voice actor is needed for the protagonist. Tommy was a money-hungry sociopath that show no Remorse and doesn't give a crap about his friends or love interest. Carl was in no way an angel, but he had remorse for his actions and care about his friends even after being Betrayed. in one mission,” Deconstruction,” he killed a group of Construction workers for catcalling his sister. CJ had no real reason to do that besides his protecting his sister from being harassed. Obviously, it just a filter mission, but it shows Carl cares for people around and how they feel, and his whole journey across the fictional state was just to save his brother from jail. BREAKING THE RACIAL BARRIER Carl Is also the first black protagonist of the series. Minority/POC Characters nowadays just feel like they're in the story for no reason And bring nothing to the table other than being a POC. Carl is different; you get to know him. His struggles and his demons. You want him to succeed in his journey. You see him as a person. You never think about his race throughout the story and isn't the main focus. Of course, there are outdated stereotypes. But for 2004 it was the step in the right direction. That is why carl is love from the GTA Community regardless of your skin tone. YOUR SPIN ON THINGS Another first for the series is actual customization for the main protagonist. From any haircut to how to fit or fat you want to be. Which, in my opinion, it gives you a better connection with the main character. Every CJ is unique to each player. You want to be a cowboy, go for it. You want to be a fat punk; you can. The options are endless for CJ. Instead of fixed clothing options to fit the main character ”mold” that later games do, which defeat the whole purpose of customization. You have real freedom to do what you want. In conclusion, CJ was rockstars games' most essential character to come out of the grand theft auto series RyanDri3957V, santosvagos, Shotaazz and 1 other 2
Jeansowaty
Tbh CJ being black and part of a black gang made me appreciate them a lot. Culturally and stuff. While he may not be one of my fave protags, the black-latino gang warfare setting is really nostalgic to me and I really liked it. I still want a GTA digging into that setting properly to a full potential, having a protagonist who is heavily involved in his gang and brings it on top. 4nsmiley
Cutter De Blanc
Thing I like best about CJ is that he's such a fun loving guy. Even on rampages he's having a good time. Reminds me of Trevor in that respect. Shotaazz
GhettoJesus
Technically the first black protagonist was Troy and Divine from GTA 1. I appreciate CJ, he was Rockstar's first attempt at making an in-depth protagonist and it worked out fine. The setting was perfect for him. Evil empire
Despite his flaws CJ shows a good balance between the 2 extremes who are Claude and Tommy in terms of consistency and charism. The many possibilities to customize him with the clothes, haircuts, combat styles etc add to his charism. Shotaazz
Guest
I like him because he's not like most protagonist, He's a GOD FEARING, LOVING MAN OF THE PEOPLE. And I believe he cared so much about his family because Im sure he doesn't want to start crimes but Sweet wanted him to join the gang, but he agreed for the sake of his family. Then He was betrayed by his friends, He didn't give up and started working for other people to get his revenge.

José_Sócrates
Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of CJ. I know it's a little superficial, but I don't like the way he looks like and the way he talks. I don't know why, but he just doesn't look like a gangsta to me. Shotaazz
