What did you do in Vice City today

Similar to the threads in the San Andreas and IV sections. Thought it would be fun to see what people are up to in Vice City nearly two decades after it's release

I'll start

- Started a new playthrough. 'In the Beginning' remains as iconic an introduction as it was before. RIP Vic

- Finished the mission 'The Party' and got acquainted with Vice City's big players

- Went to the Malibu Club and tried to barge into the upstairs area when the bartender shotgunned my ass lol, Forgot about that

- Drove around the city to reacquaint myself with the city layout. It was nice listening to 'Waiting for a girl like you' as the sun rose

Feel free to share your daily adventures in Vice City whether they be exciting or even seemingly mundane

I usually start with a starter save (iirc 44.81%) and then start doing the missions and breaking records.

-I just did The Job randomly and then closed the game feeling bored

So? It's not like this section is buzzing with activity anyway, I don't see what's wrong in creating this thread and trying to spark some discussion, if that doesn't happen so be it doesn't mean you shouldn't try

Also I haven't posted in that San Andreas thread for months now, so maybe cool down a bit on the trying to keep it alive part?

man, tbh i like to go thru the storyline but as long as my vc is modded some parts are giving me hard times..But apart from that I just love playing VC but a 100% save game. Collecting his $$$, killing peds in north point mall with grenades, other than that i love doing taxi mission.

I completed the missions Naval Engagement, Trojan Voodoo, and Shakedown. I then tried to buy the Malibu Club, but I didn't have enough money (I haven't been doing many side missions for the sake of cash; I guess I need to work harder on collecting money in order to buy the assets). I also looked at the map of Miami on Google Maps, and it was interesting to see how Miami Beach is connected to the mainland in real life, and that Little Haiti and Little Havana actually exist in Miami. Furthermore, a few days ago, I read the entire Wikipedia article on the game.

The bartender in the Malibu Club also killed me some time ago. It caught me by surprise; I hadn't expected a peaceful-looking woman to shoot once and make me kick the bucket!

I'm not a big gamer, but I've been enjoying the game so far. I played it many years ago, but back then I understood almost nothing of the story because my English was poor as a child, and there was no translation into my native language. I'm getting a bit geeky about it these days; I want to read some wiki articles about the game on websites created by fans, and I'd like to read the lyrics of the songs, and generally do things like that to become fully acquainted with the details. Perhaps I shouldn't be spending that much time on it, but it helps me escape some problems in real life.

I'll try to reach 100% completion without using any cheat codes. When I do, I might move forward to San Andreas. I believe I installed that game in the 2000s, but got frustrated soon because I was somehow expecting it to be a continuation of Vice City with Tommy Vercetti as the protagonist (😆). It'd be nice to play it now, but it might take even more time than Vice City to grasp all the details.

By the way, I miss this sort of web forums. I find them more organized than Facebook groups or other social media spaces. If someone plans to continue to comment in this thread, I'd be happy to exchange our Vice City diaries here.

I've been playing vigilante sub-mission with a cop car and an Enforcer (sometimes) endlessly. Its the part I have a blast with so for years I've been messing around but I'm doing it right at the beginning of the game to see how fast I can take down the criminals and not get busted or shotgunned by one of them criminals. I'm starting to get very good at it, on both PC and PS2 versions. I'm still learning new strats and finding optimal ways of driving and pinning cars. I hope to eventually stream some of it and get a speedrun category going.

How fun was it? I haven't gotten that high but I lose interest because its too easy in general using the Hunter.

There is a lot about the GTA games to explore tech wise in articles and guides. Vice City is worth it, I hope to understand a lot of the workings over the decades. I sometimes wonder if I spend too much time as well but then I realize how much fun I had so I shrug it off.

I'm also just about to start a new playthrough of SA on the PC for the first time (in the next 24 hours). There is so much going on in that one.

I agree about online message boards/forums such as this. I can't stand the new way of social media. I'll be keeping updates about things I find out during my runs here and probably in the threads I started about vigilante and unknown glitches.

I'm currently on a new playthrough of Vice City so would like to share my antics in this game so provided this thread is active I'll be more than happy to exchange notes with you  :)

And yeah the bartender took me completely by surprise too!

What I did when I last played

- Completed Back Alley Brawl. Took down Mr Teal , got myself a cell phone and met a certain Mr Lance

- Near the mall there were quite a few criminals being chased by cops so I went around stopping the criminals trying to get the good citizen bonus, until I accidentally punched a cop which led to a fist fight where all it took was the cop to punch me once for me to fall to the ground and get busted...

- Had another (successful) 3 star police chase riding around on a faggio

It was fun for about an hour then I got bored, basically just wanted to see how much money I made (19 mil). It is really easy. I did it in Ocean Beach and almost every level at least one car spawned in or near the water, taking care of itself. Then when I got six stars they started hitting Rhinos too. Makes it trivial.

Pancake2020's updates:

I've done a whole bunch of missions:

  • Bar Brawl: On the one hand, I believe that Lance Vance sort of deserves being treated as a child. ("But don't worry Tommy, I can handle it.") -- Seriously, Mr. Lance Vance Dance?!?! He was too chicken. On the other hand, the man lost his brother and was patronized "all his life". Tommy could've been more patient.
  • Cop Land: Nice mission. I flew back with Lance in a helicopter to Vercetti Estate. Starfish Island is quite conveniently located. The mansion is one of the best places in town.
  • Check Out At The Check In: a refreshing 4th assassination contract. The previous payphone mission was a bit more challenging.
  • Love Juice: ("This is Tommy. We go way back.") -- LMAO. What a hypocrite Kent Paul is. It was only a short while ago that he had his first (heated) encounter ever with Vercetti. Also, would Mercedes, the daughter of the powerful Colonel Cortez, be happy to have sex with Love Fist's artists just like that? Even if they were really top artists, Mercedes is still an attractive woman who was raised by an important father.
  • Psycho Killer: really liked the voice artist's performance of the Psycho's line "I'll see Love Fist burn! Love Fist ruined my life!", as well as the appearance of the psycho fan.
  • Alloy Wheels of Steel: finished 1st on my 2nd try, I think. Nice bikes and an intriguing club.
  • Messing with the Man: am I getting it right that Tommy was referring to the Vietnam War in the dialogue?
  • Hog Tied: amusing jumps using a cool motorcycle. The mission's title is a pun, right?
  • Publicity Tour: Love Fist's members are way too talkative, but their accents are hilarious.

I bought the Cherry Popper Ice Cream Factory. Still haven't figured out how to distribute the "ice cream", if you know what I mean. (I got into the factory's vehicle and all; it's just that no-one approached me even as I started to drive.) Please don't give me tips if there's something I'm missing. I hope nothing is wrong with the game I have.

- Completed the mission Riot. Now have missions for Avery and Cortez available

- Did a few taxi missions

- Went on a bit of a melee rampage on the streets, was fist fighting a lot of peds and ended up in a fight with police again

- Stocked up on Pistol and Mac ammo

- Almost completed the Pizza boy mission but at the last level I decided to press the horn for some reason and I pressed Caps lock thinking that was the horn and cancelled the mission like an idiot

As I wrote in the other thread every time I do a vigilante run something I haven't seen before presents itself and yesterday the theme of my two attempts was erroneous entering of my vehicle. One of the criminals actually got in my car while I was in the driver's seat thinking she could drive it away but then quickly exited. Then a cop got in my car passenger side and rode with me temporarily while I was catching bad peds.

I'm learning to shoot at stuck vehicles with a handgun to get the criminals out fast so I can move on with the vigilante%. Using the shotgun can blow up my car at the same time so its not always the best option.

On my last play I heard all this dialogue I haven't heard in ages or have never. Three of my favs are:

(jacking a car) "Go kiss the pavement!"

(retrieving money from a dead ped, Tommy in an angry tone) "That's IT?!?!?!?"

(jacking a car) "MY need is GREATER than yours!"

Just finished the Cuban and Haitian missions. After finishing the last Cuban mission I wiped out all the remaining Haitians in the factory and got a wanted level, after a fun poilce chase I went to Kaufman Cabs to save but there were a lot of Haitians there who massacred me , it's like they were waiting to ambush me there after what I did to them.lol

While doing vigilante stuff on PS2, I had criminals on a motorcycle where as I was gunning towards them to knock them off, then a fast cop car (I had a wanted level) just whipped past me and did the dirty work! At the hospital in the south zone there were 6-7 cops walking around (malfunction of my disc as loading screens even occurred during driving), then I knew if I left and came back 0 cops would be walking...bingo. With many instances of mayhem, I had some wild situations where ped cars started going crazy when stuff started blowing up all around: I went to that pharmacy area where the heart is inside and these two SUV trucks were moving fast into the wall and I had to keep dodging. I don't know how their orientation got messed up but this is why I love the game, and its still not getting old playing vigilante. I had a runaway criminal get into a cop car with 1/2 doors open and the lights flashing.

I replayed through VC on PS2 earlier this year and basically done a speed run and finished it. Now im playing it again on PC but with an ultimate starter save which has all hidden packages etc complete. also using a trainer to make it a bit more fun and chaotic.

I had an unhandled exception crash the other day which was my first. The music kept playing with everything else frozen.

After taking a break from vigilante and changing some key binds, I had on level 2 both criminals had shotguns which is a first and very unlikely to spawn. Its uncommon to get just one crim with a shotgun for Levels 1-4. I find that my driving has improved for neddling between light posts and other objects and I'm not getting busted as much even when at 4 stars and tracking down crims.

Playing vigilante I had the best time role twice on the PS2 version of 3:48. I hate those ramps that take you across the river on the first half of the map because I never have enough speed to make it and then just end up in the water.

Once my vigilante play was screwed I was going to start a new game and as I hit pause that radio static noise was playing so it carried over into the new game and all the beginning cut scenes. It wasn't until the 2nd tutorial noise when your at the start that the static noise stopped.

As my timer was running down (playing you know what) to zero I was still trying to follow this criminal car and I was about a road length's away once it was gg...instead of the pink arrow disappearing only, something I've never seen before took place: the criminals all got out of the car and then simply vanished/de-spawned. Usually the car keeps moving the same way and you can still destroy it for some weapon drops.

At the very end of the session I had a SWAT van and was causing lots of issues for the boys in blue, I was stalled and then back up or spun which is when I got busted unfairly for the 635th time. As that camera angle was in progress that rare and funny ped-run-over animation that shows them shooting straight up in the air was center stage as all these vehicles collided and hit each other!!! Man I wish that was recorded, one of the all-timers! Seeing that awesome launch from that other angle was a classic. I noticed peds randomly running all over the road during my runs more than other times which I'm more than okay with, makes for some quality bedlam.

On PS2 version, a criminal car somehow made its way to that car garage entrance (the one where Lance joins Tommy not the other closer to the Bay) while I was doing runs and once I finished the crims, other cop cars (because of my wanted level) were piling in and I was taking out each cop to get some ammo but very rapidly I noticed cars de-spawning around the entrance. It was a unique spot to have a conflict at.

I got to 32 kills on one of the runs but I was low on health, and cars blew up too fast around me for an escape. However as I died I was also busted at the same time and the wasted banner took priority.

I just had one of the most wild runs of the season, it was a new game run but I had to resort to using the tank code on PS2 since I was robbed from a cop car change at the northern station. About four or five new discoveries in the 40 min of insanity: For the first time after getting my wanted level down to 2 stars and then 1, a FBI cheetah was still after me and the spawn distance was enough it wasn't a carry-over; In that spot where you get armor under the gazebo, my car flipped and then a FBI cheetah moved outta the way into the yard further and then another yellow FBI cheetah came towards me (first I had two at once); In the northern part where that triangle shape geography juts out, two security guards were running down the street (unusual) and I ran them both down amidst the carnage; while in the Rhino, I was moving fast due to the backwards canon fire and I don't know what did this but in that aforementioned triangle spot I somehow was launched upwards and in insane fashion I flew right over the triangle and landed upside down close to the water on the other end!! That is by far the most air I caught while in a tank since I started playing VC. I had thankfully reached 8 mins on clock and was Level 18 by now. I died not long after by shotgun.

On the PS2 version which has been a while since I did runs on, I had a rather bizarre beginners luck by not having many close calls getting busted or many issues. The theme was a smoky cop car which was used on multiple occasions, and I learned that grenades on the PS2 are unreliable, don't be an unreliable grenade Tommy! I'd throw one and sometimes they don't detonate if you move too fast afterwards or change the direction your looking. It almost made me lose. Then getting to Level 11 was very epic, I thought I was done when the last crim car was far off and I had just 20 seconds to destroy, so I got there and managed to slam the car upside down (!!!) and shoot the uzi frantically with seconds left. It exploded during the last 1 second on the timer!! It registered, I got full health nearby, and I had NO stars. Good time roll too. I kept getting more levels with just 1 min or less to spare and with 5 seconds I got in a FBI Cheetah and as I looked back racing away I saw 2/3 police vehicles just fly around in cinematic fashion. I got some lucky crim routes which were easy to intercept so they either blew up with all the cars exploded or the shotgun (which later I'd have 228 rounds of) took care of them. I was getting awesome time rolls all the way to Level 15 and then I simply ran out of time. I was able to remove the stars and save the file so at least the stats were saved. This was one of the most epic vigilante runs of 2020, the PS2 surprised me once more.

Parked up on Prawn Island around the back of the apartment building opp the film studio. Turned the radio off and just thought for a while...

Thought about my life up until this moment. And in a moment of clarity, realized where I am. Vice City, the greatest city to be.
