Rockstar potentially working on an open-world VR game

Recommended Posts

Indi

This is public knowledge.

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/video-games-deluxe_having-finished-the-critically-well-received-activity-6681012394250117120-y4El

Video Games Deluxe is the company that is set up by Brendan McNamara and ex-L.A. Noire/Team Bondi devs who had primarily worked on L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files.

A job listing on their LinkedIn page says they are continuing to work with R* on what appears to be a VR open-world game.

Sounds exciting!

Yeah, could be.  Seems like an interesting place to work for, I think they did a good job on "The VR Case Files," seems like a studio that could have a lot of potential.  I'll be keeping an eye out on what they do for sure :).

VR is the future. If they actually bring this to GTA Online it'll be a game changer. I've tried the numerous VR mods for the PC version and while none of them are quite there yet, it's easy to see how much potential the series has in this medium. I'm excited.

This could be for the next gen version of GTA V. Or GTA VI.

Interesting, I thought Rockstar said they weren't working with McNamara ever again after finding out he was a dick to the guys working on the game. Maybe that was Dan's call and now that he's not working at Rockstar anymore, they rescinded?

If it's a brand new project it's probably something quite small. Could be a standalone GTA experience, set in Los Santos potentially or something like that. Or just a straight up VR port of GTA V/RDR2.

yikes this is sounding expensive. im assuming that it will probably be next gen only and vr only. so im supposed to pay hundreds of dollars for this? i hope the vr part is just an option and not forced. because as much as i love rockstargames. i dont feel like spending that much for one game.

Welp, looks like my find has hit pretty much every news platform.  News outlets are saying it was found on Reddit, nah, I found it first (correction: told the masses first)!  Not that I give a sh*t anyway :pp.

I wonder how a Manhunt title would work in VR? It would be freaking awesome in my opinion.

That's pretty annoying. I wish these news outlets would've credited you properly. I was watching this really closely and you were definitely the first to post it. It ended up on resetera with proper credit given to you, however some guy decided to take it and repost to reddit without mentioning anyone. That's when lesser known sites started posting about it (thankfully VG247 had your back). IGN comes along and doesn't credit anyone at all. And now SWEGTA is crediting Tez2.

But thank you for sharing it with us. I'm a huge fan of VR and it made my day.

I wasn't aware that you were the one who first reported on this. Nice work.
I can credit your name in the description of my last video if you want.

Go for it.  It is inevitable that people will take the credit, I knew that posting it, but hey, that’s just what happens.

I loved watching videos of The VR Case Files and I was interested in who made it, I had a feeling it wasn’t wholly Rockstar so looked in the credits of the game in the end and there appeared VGD, looked them up on LinkedIn as I was interested in who they were and then to my surprise they said they were recruiting for some jobs for a VR game for Rockstar.

I literally was like, “oh sh*t!” and it was even posted a week ago. Really surprised nobody found it.

@D T yeah VG24/7 are good journalists. No problem anyway.

Would be great for a new IP game from Rockstar. Specifically an idea like "Aruba Salaryman" where you're a law abiding citizen doing mundane tasks such as brushing your teeth, going to work on time without proper commute, and eating realistic steak. Then the game secretly turns out to be a testing waters for GTAVI.

A VR game with Realistic Steaks.

Max Payne VR maybe? Although maybe it's too old of a title but I feel it could work well in VR. Then again it could be a GTA game as well. Or a completely new IP.
