EdHunter
Is there any reason a perfect alligator skin has such a trash value with Cripps (1.38)? I’m holding a good quail carcass that is worth 1.65! yeezy203
Officer Friendly
The big American Alligators are abundant and easy to kill. The smaller crocodiles are worth more.

jazzbone
Your quail is a whole carcass, the big gators are just skins from a carcass. Cripps will only accept skins and feathers or a whole carcass. That is a carcass with skins or feathers not removed. A perfect small gator carcass is worth 8 units and a good grade is worth 4 units when delivered to Cripps. My use of large gator skins is for the daily challenge of donating 3 deadly predator skins or carcasses to Cripps. However overall i thinks 1.38 is too low for perfect large gator skins. 4 would be more reasonable. Large gator carcasses can not be sold or donated, the skins are very large, and some places with gators have mostly large with few small. For turtles do head shots which is not easy on one moving. Also they turn hiding their head if we get too close. Springfield with a scope on a non moving turtle is my method. CosmicBuffalo
Yeah, he will not even accept a small alligator. Some players saying he will, mine must be bugged. All of the pelts from what should be the highest value even rare moose and grizzley are peanuts. In my opinion, its not worth the time to hunt large animals unless you are trying to get big game meat or animal fat off of bears. BUT THE BENZ
might not be worth much, true, but as someone on this forum mentioned you can store MANY MANY gator skins without jampacking your wagon. very useful for trader challenges jazzbone and DarksunDaFirst
Surebrec
The only reason I don't sell my gator skins to the butcher is because of the camp daily where you have to donate three predator skins. You can also store way more than just whole animals in your hunting wagon, making it good quick way of getting the daily challenge done.

Gray-Hand
You also get the alligator teeth from an alligator when you skin it. I think you get about 1 unit from them. And I think you get two of them with a 3 star skin. Still not worth the space on the back of your saddle, but they are one of the easiest kills in the game, and the big game meat is nice. There is an random encounter in Lemoyne that produces 5 perfect Alligators that you can stack up in your hunting wagon. And that is a boom. Without taking any carcass space in your wagon, it gives you almost 7 units of materials. Plus the Big Game meat, depending on your own capacity, can give you up to 25 pieces of big game meat, and of course 10 alligator teeth (iirc, you get 2 per gator). So with gators you can easily fill up on seasoned big game meat or you can sell the meat (which I usually do because I have max amount of all 3 seasoned and plain cooked). Gators are really the pre-trader animal to go after. 1 gator skin ($2) + 5 big game meat ($3 total) + two teeth ($1.20 total) is easy to get. Not to mention you can kill a bunch real quick to double the meat and carry up to 10 teeth. That’s almost $15. Compare that to a single perfect buck carcass at the butcher shop which gives you $10. But for the trader role, stacking up gator skins is easy with the wagon. A single perfect buck iirc brings 12 units and takes up 1 large slot in the wagon, but a bunch of gator skins can provide a lot more and take up zero spots (think you can carry 10 of each quality in the wagon). So that’s an extra 13+ units of materials on top of any carcasses you got in there. Edited July 3, 2020 by DarksunDaFirst BUT THE BENZ
