Timsalabimbo 1,450
Since a couple of weeks now, my story mode stutters/lags tremendously, and I don't know why. It happens constantly. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not I'm moving the character, or just have them stand in one spot. I'm fairly sure it's not a hardware problem, since online seems to be unaffected. Things I've tried: Clearing cache, did nothing. Reinstalling game, did nothing. Start a new game, did nothing. Note: I don't use mods, so that's not it either. What could be causing this and what else could I try?

Aparently GTA 5 can play up if your frame rate is to high like over 150fps and leads to it stuttering try capping your fps to 140ish, Online normally gives less performance than single player so your fps in this case might be under this threshold so you get no stutters.

That was it! I did a benchmark test and did indeed get 180+fps. I turned on Vsync and it's back to normal now. Thank you!
MechanicMammal 702
Nice, it was all theory based, my GPU will not get anywhere near those fps numbers I guess that means you can smash all your settings up to maximum and make use of your excess gpu potential. AirWolf359 4,591
High end GPU + low settings = bad. In any game, you want your FPS to be limited by GPU usage if possible. And especially GTA V doesn't like to run at high framerates, the original version was made and tested at 30 (console) GTA V probably won't use 100% of your whole CPU, but if you look closely, you'll see it regularly uses 100% of one core (when GPU not 100%) It only scales to 4 cores. If your GPU is still too fast, use a frame limiter to avoid too much CPU load. If GPU is not used 100%, the CPU is being used at its maximum. But the CPU gets used by other programs too, the stutters come from other programs trying to use CPU time. Don't try to tune your graphics for 144+fps, GTA Online won't run that because of increased CPU load. Crank up the settings so you are GPU limited at 80-90fps average when running the benchmark. That works better for Online and it works for story mode too. The only setting I would keep at minimum is Extended Distance Scaling in Advanced Graphics. That one causes even more CPU load. I also wouldn't use Grass at Very High or Ultra. Reflection MSAA is only useful with Ultra reflections. Edited June 27, 2020 by AirWolf359
