Explosive ammo

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on explosive ammo. How often do you use it in pvp? When you do use it in pvp do you think the kills you get are legit or cheap kills?

What I've noticed a lot in the game is that people often pull out the explosive ammo when they are losing a fight. Lately people seem to use it right from the start (maybe intimidated by rank). I avoid using it in pvp because I don't feel as thought the kills mean anything. Almost anyone can get a kill with an explosive Lancaster. When people pull out the explosives I usually parley because it makes the fight a bit pointless. But the crazy thing is when I do parley they act like they have won a massive victory and they were somehow the better players. I view explosive ammo as a sign that you have lost the battle. How do you feel about them?

If a daily is to get kills in a showdown and I'm having no luck, especially bow kills, I'll use dynamite arrows.

At that point everyone else, or most everyone has already used it freely, so I don't feel I'm breaking protocol by doing it.

Other than that, explosive ammo is for using on griefers only, and I've only ever used it after being attacked for no reason, 3 times in total.

As far as them being salty about it:  too bad, so sad for them.

That's like the Lzzzzz texts in GTA, it doesn't mean anything except they're trying to get to you any way they can, and since they couldn't 'win' in the game they attempt to get you psychologically.

That in itself is indication that they have 'lost'.

Pay no attention to them.

As you said, almost anyone can get easy kills, particularly if they come up on you without warning, that's no indication of skill.

I use it for dailies because I normally quit whatever after getting the dailies.  It just makes the dailies ways easier.

I rarely use them for free roam pvp.  Mainly because hunting animal fat is such a chore. If I do, its to even the odds while my defensive timer is counting down.  They should not be allowed on autoaim weapons, but it is what it is.   Dynamite Arrows I use often because a) it lets the noob griefers to think about what they are doing, b)they are easy to craft and I often have the bow out.

I personally love to see griefers waste all of their explosive ammo.  I will glady sacrifice video game kills and know that the tiny muppets have to go into legendary bounties for hours to refill their ammo for 15 mintues of feeling they are winning.

I have yet to face anyone who 1v1 has managed to grief me with immpunity.  If they switch to explosives after I kill them 5 times in a row, I see it as a receiving a hate text.  It makes me laugh.  I personally love it when I am in slippery and they drop me and shoot four more shots becase the next 2 miss.  Good times.

If anyone tells you that getting animal fat is easy or I can get like 15 geese in 5 mins, some b.s., the best players will drop you with an explosive round then switch weapons to make a kill.  You know the person you are dealing with is probably not a greifer but usually in posse with them though.

yes i do use explosive ammo proudly. not all the time of course. but when i need to i will. i will admit that im not the best at pvp. im not bad either. just average. so if im in a fight against someone who is better than me. i will use them. i mostly use them in free mode. like if a big group is attacking me or if im up against someone better than me. i have gotten some hate for using it.

one time i was having a fight with a guy. i was winning the fight. but then his friend came and made it uneven. and i died a lot more. so i switched to explosive ammo. and was able to get more kills. after a while i just went into defensive. then the guy started talking. and so i talked back. he kept saying that he is so much better than me. and that i suck because i only used explosives. but then i told him that for a while i did not use them until his friend came in. but he made it sound like i used explosive bullets the whole time. which was not true. then the guy told me that he has a video of the whole thing. and that he is going to show the internet how bad i am. i just laughed. eventually i just left the game.

so to sum it all up. i do like explosive ammo. and it has really helped when i needed it. people might not like when i use them. but i always say that if they dont like it. complain to rockstar because they are the ones that gave them to me. i have never crafted the ammo. i just use the ones rockstar gave me from the outlaw pass. even if i die by it. i dont get as upset as a lot of other people. i just shake it off and respawn. and i do count it as a legit kill in my book. its not cheating or a mod. its literally something rockstar gave me. and your not always guaranteed the kill. a lot of times i hit them and they just fall down and i have to shoot again. or i miss and hit their horse. and if you hate them so much just get your own and use them.

Why do you waste energy and time and worrying if something is legit or cheap... pointless...

I could ask you why you waste time blowing up stuff. One persons waste of time is another persons pleasure. If you think the whole conversation is pointless then how about just staying out of it and not wasting your time?

I don't use it, don't want to. If a player attacks me in free roam using EA, fun over, I'm out. I just figure he's one of kids (or kid-like adults) R* had in mind when released it to help sell good bars. That and Tracking Arrows. Know nothing about them, do they really track? How? Heat seeking technology?  Keep this stuff out of the game cuz once it's in, they can't take it out and it will becomes a just another GTA cartoon.

Edit - @CosmicBuffalo cleared me up on tracking arrows below. Thanks.

Tracking arrows are for npc bounties....they are a good way to get dailies gold, but they really are not worth it unless you do dailies.  Tracking arrows do less damage than other arrows.  All they do is give a green trail when you are in eagle eye.  They are pointless in every situation other than doing dailies.  They require a scent gland to craft.  Good luck farming muskrats and skunks.

What I never understood about explosive ammo is why its not confined to sniper rifles like GTAO.  And really, why is it even in the game.  While GTAO has the RPG and Homing rockets that can spam far away, they are still free aim weapons against ground targets.  For like 4 years in GTAO the only way to shoot a jet down was free aiming an rpg on a jet or sniping it like 12 times which both are really difficult.  And in GTAO the explosive ammo was added to deal with jets, but even this tool was not good enough for most players, so they ultimately added the MK2 Oppressor because all the other tools actually required some skill to beat and avoid jets.  There really is no reason for the explosive ammo outside of the cards, but even then, the cards are available to everyone.

As it is, the explosive ammo should only be available to low levels like below 50 or something unless gifted by R*.  One you hit 50, you have to give it up, that probably how it should be.  Yet its the complete opposite.

Kills or deaths ? Because I know when I’m being shot by some low rank scrub with explosive it really annoys me . That’s the only time I use it is when some little scrub who can’t be bothered learning to shoot kills me with a explosive ammo it’s the same as being orbital cannon it’s takes the same amount of skill .

If R* would use dedicated servers, the game could actually be a competitive game with leader boards and reliable statistics...but as is, the game is casual due to the servers...there is no reason that RDO and GTAO would not garner viewership if two crews of people had a battle and agreed to some limited rules.  The thing that really prevents this is the system architecture.  I would personally love to see GTAO racing as sanctioned type of event.  DMs as well, Rockstar actually attempted to do this early on...promoted crews and kills and even K/Ds.  But their servers allow so much cheating and lagging, any claims to being the best are questionable.  There is nothing wrong with wanting to compete against people.  Explosive ammo is cheap, but its currently legitimate unless all players are agreeing to not use it.

I use it for sales aswell, usually Im alone, play solo 90% of the time, so I don’t feel cheap using it against 2+ vs me, mainly a posse of dickheads that thinks they’re good for fighting a solo guy.

Also, explosive ammo for the “King of Railroad” mode is very good to knock out players from their horses so you buy time on the train.

But, one thing I think its worse than explosive ammo that would make the game more fair to everyone, is PiB, that thing is cheap as f*ck regarding ez kills.

Are you using slippery currently? Im a slippery guy all time, but I feel lately is like isnt even having effect, ppl can shot me dead with lancasters even while not using PiB, I wonder if my card is bugged or something, did R* nerf it by chance?

Same.

I can't remember the last time I used explosive ammo.

I know it was before Rockstar nerfed it.

I haven't noticed. A poor griefer using PIB wasted 6 rounds from his repeating shotgun just now.  He was right behind me and it hit the back of the wagon I was on 3 three times.

I use it to make a point, one of those "ok, I'm done playing with you kid leave me the hell alone." kinds of things. It's a quick effective way of making sure the griefing player is killed and I can get a head start to get away from them. Usually if a player attacks me in defensive, I will load one of my guns with explosive rounds, usually my shotgun. But I don't use it unless they continue to pursue me. Most of my experiences have been that if I just used my basic ammo the players see this as a green light that I want to continue to fight them and not just get away. If I hit them with flammable or explosive rounds they tend to get the idea and leave me alone.

It seems a bug is happening with my card then, because I've been hit too "easy" by everyone while in slippery, I had a "personal" bug on GTAO with the favored bike bonus not being applied to my bike despite the time I rode it and R* support said to me "ride it more time" when I explained to them, I guess I'll wait for the next update, if this issue persist I'll open a ticket for it because this is a major thing that have a total negative impact on gameplay, if they don't fix that I cannot see myself playing this game anymore. The second holster vanishing when joining modes or story is  bad enough, even I sending R* ticket about it they said they would "look" into it to look for a solution, but nada so far.

I haven’t played regularly in a while so it’s been a really long time since I used it.  Basically this is what I would use it for:

1.  Long Distance Trade Sales - load the Bolt Action or Litchfield with explosive rounds, Pump Action Shotgun with Fire Rounds, and one revolver (usually LeMat) with explosive rounds.  Whether I’m driving, riding shotgun, or providing escort, I take zero chances and give zero f***s about it.

2.  Archery Challenge - load 1 pistol with explosive rounds (usually volcanic).  I keep this weapon as my preferred switch to.  Just in case I need to defend myself - I almost never lose the Archery Challenge.  I would place a safe estimate that of the 100 victories for the belt buckle, at least half were winning this.  Probably close to 2/3.  Anytime anyone tried to hit me (thanks to defensive cards), I would quick swap to that pistol and kill them, and if I saw them I would kill them again without hesitation or additional provocation.

3.  PvP situations where I’m costing the team with my sh*tty play.  If it’s free-for-all, I won’t use it unless it’s really close and I really really want to win.  But if I’m costing a team game with bad play, they come out.  I crafted them for when I needed them in a pinch, and if not now, then when?   F*** it.  Boom.

I spent the money, I collected the animal fat.  I’m using these suckers.  I still have hundreds of untapped explosive rounds sitting in the mailbox from prime, social club, and outlaw pass rewards.  So it’s not like I didn’t just get some free ammo, I spent the time and (in-game) money acquiring them.

It takes the fun away from the PvP types and usually ends the fight pretty quick.

It's not for me, feels cheap like GTA really.

I don't PvP at all so if attacked by a pansey using this crap, I quit out and reload, I don't care, I'd rather enjoy looking at the scenery while reloading than engage in any PvP in this broken and God awful mess. Too childish.

Any time I do PvE missions and something needs blowing up, I'm sure they give us dynamite for it, although it's been a while since I've done any missions as they're either public or full if twat's, lol. Could be wrong on being given dynamite there.

Still got all the noob ammo in the post office R* throws at us, lol.

For the shine missions where you have to destroy a rival operation, you can use shotgun shells on the barrels and still, I switch my LeMats over.

It's usually the only time I use shotgun shells in the game, and it's cheaper than using dynamite/fire bottles or explosive rounds.

I still don't understand why you guys get so upset over a little PvP that RARELY happens anyway. When someone attacks me while I'm in defensive (which is 99% of the time I play) I kind of welcome it! That's why they made defensive mode - if you get attacked first you have a giant advantage over the (so called) griefer. I'll stick around and kill them a few times then take off and let them try and find me. It's actually a lot of fun and a change of pace from the boring grind.

Like others I have tons of ammo stashed in the mail that I can never possibly use unless I fight back a little.

Oh well, to each their own I guess.

It's not always rare, it's mixed. Some days rare, other times the game seems to set me up by moving me away from one pansey towards another, lol. Hence, I just quit and load up in a new state. I'm not here to be another players play thing and help them with their erection difficulties.

But I'm not a PvP player in any sense of the term, I'm here for the PvE only. The game offers and promotes PvE (and lone wolf friendly), so I rightfully call out R*'s lies and dick moves in serving up the PvE players and lone wolf's.

This one size fits all lobby system is only ever going to favour the PvP player though, hence why I call it cheap and childish because many do seek the PvE players out because they know a proper PvP player would kick their arse, lol.

Fair play if it's cheaper, but I've not done any of those missions as they're freemode ones and anything that puts a target on me out there is a big no-go. (Plus after GTA:O, the idea of running more businesses just hurts my brain, lol. Although through dailies, I have passed rank 10 on moonshine funnily enough). :)

Moonshine sales do not put a target on you.  You can do them in defensive.  If you are doing things that involves riding on wagon, you are missing out.  Yeah, it running a business like GTAO, buts it better than everyother business in GTAO.  I have all the businesses in GTAO.  Moonshiner is the way it should be for all them, the pay is good, and the effort is very low.  You can skip the grindy parts.  Its sort of like Gun Running without the need to Order mulitple supplies or having to worry about getting 3 vehicles.  Just a equip a weapon, and aim it, and 5 minutes later. You make $100 dollars or more.

Tall Trees and Heartlands have fast travel nearby. And the moonshine shack is actually a decent addition, when you have all the stuff.  If you do the dailies, its worth having most of the stuff to fool around with.  If you get a black loading screen, just join on someone in another lobby then back out of the join that should fix it.  If you cannot get in, uh...change sessions.

I don't know why it's so hard to understand that each and every person on this planet have different views and tastes.

Some will agree on some things, some will feel completely opposite, no one is the same, so why should everyone have to act the same when they clearly do not want to.

An open world game is what you want to make of it for yourself, someone could very easily play this game without ever buying one weapon, just wander the map collecting herbs and items, enjoying the scenery, owning no 'businesses'.

If that doesn't make sense to some people, I'm quite sure the peaceful player doesn't see sense in wanting to shoot everything that moves.

The freedom of choice is a big attraction, and as long as there is a decent variety of activities to choose from, there's no need to do things you don't like, unless you set yourself a goal and these less desirable bits are necessary to get to your target.

I disagree on some of that.

I know near sales can remain defensive of course, but we can still be attacked as there is no way to be sure what's out there, sh*t happens. Unlike in GTA where we can change sessions a few times and get a lone public to sell my nightclub goods for example.

But even then, I don't do businesses in GTA as it's all just a piss about, lol. I did enough at one time or another and they never made me any more money than just playing co-op (heists mostly) or solo PvE (missions, VIP etc). I'm no fan of passive incomes really as, as shown by GTA:O, it encourages too much AFK play whereas I logged on to play, not stand around and wait, lol. The story missions in RDRO are so annoying when one player takes the piss in forcing everyone to wait for maximum pay or goes off hunting, winds me right up.

And I strongly disagree that I'm missing out by not doing wagon stuff, lol. I don't really like riding wagons as I prefer my Jenny out there. I'll ride them when it's scripted but not through choice, lol. But that's just personal preference of course and fully accept there is money to be made, but like GTA, making top dollar has never been a driving force for me, it's just a good consequence of good gaming time. (And TBH, grinding is a swear word to me, lol. It's too anti-gaming for my preferences).

I do have and enjoy the shack mind you, but more for the interactivity of it than as a business. Though as you said, it's a shame it and other things are bugged, I don't care one bit about my camp through how little I've been there or even seen it with all those issues, a shame really.

Couldn't agree more @kcole4001. 👍🤠
