Johnny Kidd & The Pirates - Shakin' All Over / 1960
Super underrated band right here. Love The Pirates. Shame Johnny Kidd died so young.
Garage rock/proto-punk is my favorite genre from the 60s.
the 60s were a pretty radical and transformative era for both culture and society. when it comes to artists, I think most people remember it as the emergence of The Beatles and how their arrival in America changed pop music for forever, which definitely can't be overstated. but there was also a lot of eclectic experimentation going on which would come to define much of the modern musical landscape as we know it today. from electronic to hip hop and most things in between; they can trace their popular roots to some point during the 1960's.
the Rolling Stones and Beatles dominated much of the latter half of the decade, and they're great of course, but I'm still in love with the late Motown influences that survived the 50's.
