monkeytown123 0
hey there, so when epic gave away gta 5 i got my hands on the pc version for the first time. i finished the story now and while playing i noticed severe framedrops to around 40-50 fps. im running a ryzen 5 3600, 32 gigs of ram and a rtx 2070 super which i got in january 2020. the current settings are what the game gave me and can be found here: https://imgur.com/a/Uk1rsXB im aware that everything is set to high / ultra etc. but i guess my machine should be capable to run a game from 2013 and i dont even dare dreaming about the high res mods that are out there. i like the resolution and the graphics so far but i like my fps too...so are there any settings that pull my fps down but arent THAT visible actually or anything else i could do? i also had that weird bug where the game menu / map drops to like 5-10 fps until i turned vsync ON again which magically fixed that issue. as this was my first ever self-built pc this might be a stupid question but why cant my graphics card just use more RAM than 2,5 / 8 gb to handle the load? 🙄 thx in advance

AirWolf359 4,591
Judging from those screenshots, I think you are not even using your GPU 100% at 50fps. You can install MSI afterburner to verify. Unless you are constantly at 100% GPU usage, there is no need to lower your settings. Just keep all the Advanced Graphics off. Your GPU should be able to handle everything on Very High (except grass) at 2560x1440 with MSAA off. Also, the game will use more Vram than the 2.5GB it says. The 2.5GB is just the minimum it will use with those settings, mine will easily use 50% more of what it says. What speed is your RAM running at? You have 32GB (more than enough for GTA V) but GTA V is more picky about RAM speed on Ryzen CPUs. It likes high speed RAM. Try enabling XMP in the Bios, if it is available As for the 10fps in the menus with Vsync off, that is because of a weird fps limitation in GTA V's engine. You can solve it by installing an external frame limiter to keep it below 188 fps. I use RivaTuner, which comes bundled with MSI afterburner. monkeytown123 0
hey there, so i changed my system to high performance, min and max processor state is set to 100%. is there any (raw power) related difference to ultimate performance? looks like its just screen timeout, hdd timeout etc. before it was set to balanced mode. i didnt even know there was that kinda option... 🙄 graphic options are set to this now, advanced stuff is all deactivated: https://imgur.com/DtH7gYS https://imgur.com/VSCyx4Y https://imgur.com/8HmyfyW so i used afterburner and played around for a while, gta online only tho which prolly isnt the best indicator compared to offline. the lowest i went to was like 68-70 fps with graphics card usage around 50-60%, its usually at 85-100 fps. it skyrocketed for one moment to 95-98% but dropped again right after. oh and my ram is running at 3600 mhz. so i would say there is an actual performance boost so far, i think setting the system to high performance did the main part here and im very glad, that u guys responded 😅 just makes me think which machine u played this on when it got released back in the days. thanks! AirWolf359 4,591
Getting 68-70 fps in online is pretty normal, this game's fps tanks greatly with other players in your session, because of extra CPU load. I would aim for 80 fps average in the benchmark with graphics settings, I think you could set yours a bit higher still. Try setting reflections to Ultra. There is no point in using Reflection MSAA unless you run Ultra reflection quality. I'd keep Reflection MSAA off anyway unless you can spot the difference. If you have a nVidia card, you can also max out Tesselation. Not sure if it matters for you, but I have set "pause game on focus loss" to Off too, the one under VSync. That's because I use 2 monitors, and the game running in Borderless Window mode. Edited June 24, 2020 by AirWolf359
