Expect a late 2022-2023 release date according to Jason Schreier

Go to around 5:30.

Made an entire new topic since i thought this was important.

Jason Schreier the guy that basically ruined our dreams a couple of months ago said on his podcast to expect a 2022-2023 release date. Thats way better than what i expected to be honest.... And since he actually talked to Rockstar you can consider this not official but as official as it gets coming from a leak.

Well if that is true it is much better. I don’t think any reasonable person thought it could come before 2022. Actually I’m kinda relieved

It's entirely plausible, after all the news from last night doesn't stop them announcing it this year or in 2021 and then releasing it a year later.

At this point I think that the three game listings on Amazon can be true. One is already confirmed and it’s GTA V. The other two can be RDR2 remastered and probably (I hope) GTA VI. Also an announcement next year would be just fine

Don't forget that Strauss Zellnick said that they'd support both GTA V and GTA VI at the same time, so Late 2022 could be a reality. I still wanted a remake or a smaller linear game from yesterday's event though..

Yeah right 😆. At least we’ll have it. However I think the stand-alone version of GTAO is a little suspicious. Maybe we’ll be surprised

First time i was happy to hear Jason Schreiers voice!

Looks like both parties were right @Yan2295 and @Fun 2 and Jason.

The "Early development" statement was lost in translation.

Tez and Yan thought he said early development as if they started now with everything but Jason meant early in game development like having an Alpha version or something.

Expect a late 2021 trailer or early 2022 but with a smaller marketing cycle.

I don’t remember that... when did he say that?

2022-2023 and that's without taking the "polish" delays into account right? so it's 2024ish.

wow never thought Rockstar had such a plan taking us on the longest ride ever and all the thanks goes to those "online" people, well done now enjoy the wait.

I don't think it's unreasonable, and it may be that they do as they did with RDR2, and make all studios work together on the next title. But from an earlier point with this. I still don't think we'll hear anything about it or see any hints of it until late next year at the earliest.

And don't forget to pre order and get the bonus milking bucket for that "enhanced" fourth release!

Yeah, that's what i'm hoping for. That they'll break out of their stupid 2 delays habit that they've had for the past 2 games.

Nah man don't forget they follow a different protocol after Dan left. At least that's what was said in the interview.

They want to shoot for the actual deadlines.

No more delays and (that part is only my opinion) smaller marketing cycles like 1 year gap between announcement and release.

They could release it 2022 if they indeed release the game in parts or 2023 and they go with the full release.

Also by releasing V on next gen they can expand the install base and test the waters for their next games.

I was horrified yesterday.... But guys with this new piece of reliable info i am really happy right now.

We didn't realistically expect a 2021 release anyway.

Look at it like this: you trade 1 year of development (expected 2022 release to 2023)for a couple of more Gta V online years worth of dlc in the latest gen. Not bad..

Yeah, true that. Remember that the last RDR2 delay happened because some higher up (Dan?) wanted to have the cutscenes in a different aspect ratio (this decision was made very late in development, after the scenes have been shot already), so they had to reshoot the scenes.

I'd actually thank those "online" people since they're basically keeping T2 happy while R* is taking their time cooking VI, much like how they took their time with Redemption 2 and the final product was widely recognized as the benchmark for creating stunning, living and breathing rural environments. I played a few AAA titles since the release of PS4, including Uncharted 4, and I can confidently say that Red Dead was the only game that truly looked and felt like a leap from its predecessor, at least from a technology point of view. This wouldn't have been possible if they were in a rush and released it earlier than 2017-2018. For VI to set a benchmark again and truly feel like a leap over V and Redemption 2, it'd need to be slowly and carefully cooked.

Part of making a perfect cooking recipe is to not distract themselves with another cook. All of the chefs have to be concentrated on making that one cook as perfect as possible. This is what R* is basically doing and I approve after tasting Redemption 2!

Seriously, I don't believe they're in the business of making small games anymore, Bully or whatever. It's no profitable in the long term. "Go big or go home" can only be realized via Grand Theft Auto, and even Red Dead is relatively lagging in this regard.

Following a new/different protocol doesn't exactly mean they will deliver on the supposed announced date, plans change and surprises popup that can easily change the course planned ahead, with Dan leaving things might be heading downhill or for the better, who knows, but so far things aren't looking that promising with them putting effort into GTAV which they have already miked to death but hey they still want to milk it, jesus the game is boring as hell, we need something new and fresh but no lets just recycle that triple recycled game again.

With GTAV v4 coming 2021 we can expect at least one year of silence following the announcement of GTAVI in 2022 with the release in 2023, but that's just us being wishful and guessing, who expected Rockstar to release GTAV for the forth time? no one, not even Yan or Fun nor did Jason Schreier mention anything about that.

The idea of them releasing it in "parts" is the defenation of horror itself, that's like releasing a half assed game then later on release the rest of it, I'd rather have it be delayed than to have a game in parts imo.

I can live with 2023. If we’re going into 24/25 territory that’s is pretty depressing.

Thank them? wut?

Online people are the ones who made Rockstar become what they have become, making GTA a money grabbing machine for greedy companies, no need to mention how many times T2 or Rockstar bragged about how well crash grab they have done thanks to spoiled kids buying those ripoff sharkcards which encouraged T2 and Rockstar to focus on releasing DLC's just so they can make loads of cash, not to mention the SP DLC which they scrapped in order to split it into DLC's for GTAOnline, that fact alone should be clear enough to the damage "online" people are doing to GTA.

Rockstar is very rich, they can have whatever amount of devs work on VI and other games simultaneously, being short on staff is something and milking the fans is another.

"Greed" and "Milking" are all cliched words that some players use to describe what they don't like. The situation is simple, Grand Theft Auto Online, like Fortnite, has a strong and established base and R*, like any business in existence, will work on keeping that base strong and growing it. If, and this is only a scenario which very likely won't happen, R* decided that V will be the last Grand Theft Auto title and all they'd do is to continue to support the current Online package, then it's OK. They would've simply found a formula that works for them with less risk and they'd continue to capitalize on it like, say, Valve. The logical thing to do, instead of repeating the same derogatory terms, is to move on and look for another game that you find more interesting. R* isn't the business of catering to each player's demand for what they should or shouldn't do. It's maybe time to mature and criticize with reason instead of memes, name-calling and finger-pointing.

I'm already coping with that since as we all know, Rockstar just can't release the game on all platforms at the same time and they'll release it for PC in 2024/5.

I didn't see any kind of well-thought reasoning in your post. It's the same play on 'greed' and 'milking' words that everybody is using. I'm not a fanboy of anything. If a R* product doesn't live to my expectations, I'd simply criticize it and then move on and not even play it for free. However, I'd not call them greedy or any of those supposedly derogatory terms, because I understand that they're a business in the first place, and I'm not entitled to anything.

Lol what? what do you call a company that releases the same game for FOUR times? FOUR TIMES!

EDIT: Actually it's going to be released five times:

  1. PS3/X360
  2. PS4/XB1
  3. PC
  4. PS5/XBX EXPANDED AND ENHANCED
  5. PC EXPANDED AND ENHANCED

Simple, it'd be called a company that supplies what their customers (i.e. GTA Online customers) demand. Don't let the echo chamber of GTAForums, that is composed of the very selective fans, trick you into thinking otherwise.
