Yep, they seem to use lots of artificial lighting and also unrealistic but artistic use of color grading in their pre-release trailers while the retail product ends up looking more realistic in terms of color. Just take a look at this for example

 

 

But in all honesty, I think their reveal trailers look worse than the actual product, that's evident with RDR2 trailer 1 which looks worse and blurry than it does on my PS4 slim. But that's mainly due to the fact that the game had 2 years of development and improvement.

I think people are forgetting that this is an 8 year old game. And as popular as it is and as well as it's selling, they aren't going to market it the way they did in 2014. They can very easily get away with showing a trailer on November 1st and a handful of screens and launch the game shortly after.

I was thinking the same thing this morning, they don’t really need to market it as if they had to convince people to buy it. They can release it tomorrow as surprise and people would still buy it.

I know one thing for sure, if E&E looks so close to the current version of the game that a bunch of hardcore fans can't unequivocally call it one way or another, it sure as hell isn't worth spending another $60 on.

Indeed, RDRII was one of very few games in last console generation, that didn't see massive downgrade, it was even upgraded. Anyone remember Watch Dogs? It was a joke compared to what they were showing at the beginning. Same with Witcher 3. It's great game but it looks bad compared to what CDPR showed when they revealed it.

Yep but the frame upgrade might change customers choices GTA V Will be absolutely different in the 60 frame upgrade.

No, it will be the same game with the same annoying limitations. Higher framerate doesn't make game different or better, it just makes it smoother.

I hope they can finally put animals in online. I am not sure why it couldnt be done last update for ps4/xbone. Also that cable car that goes to the mountain should work on online as well.

They're releasing E&E for the long haul, mainly for GTA Online. VI will most likely release in 2024 at the earliest with a 2022 announcement so they still have 3 years in between. Marketing isn't an issue for them because the end of the day it's GTAV and would sell anyway and even more when next gen exclusive online updates start coming. I'm very curious how they handle the online transition when VI comes out though.

My guess as to why they couldn't add them was probably because they didn't want the extra animals to affect performance in public lobbies, and I suppose it would make a lot more sense now looking at the current state of the game when it runs on a base PS4/XBO

When it comes to Rockstar Games they always improve the final versions of their titles. For example, take a look at this Van Horn shot in the initial trailer from 2016. There have been updates made to the building models, they've added new decals, the textures have been upgraded massively, the Saloon exterior looks a lot more grittier and seems to be remodelled and overall feel of the area just looks more dirtier.

There is no need for any kind of transition when it comes to new gta, it will most likely be new online set in the new area with new characters that players can create. There could probably be an option to transfer look of the current online character into new online game and those who have gta5 would get some bonuses like free clothing and some cars and weapons to start new criminal career.

Still my favorite GTA V trailer, alongside the launch/Sleepwalking one. Each one of the character trailers really gave off the impression that each one would have their own complete arc, just like IV, TLAD, and TBoGT. Really gave me a different vibe than what we actually got.

That's not entirely accurate. GTA V was 'downgraded' a fair bit. Compare the pre-release screenshots to the final game. It always looked better in the screenshots. But I want to make this clear, it's understandable they had to scale the visuals back. Getting GTA V to run on the 360 & PS3 is a technical marvel. But to go back to the original point being made, the screenshots and trailers always look better. Weather that's because of enhanced lighting, the position of the sun being manipulated or whatever, it's marketing material and they have to show the game off looking as good as possible. There's a reason why most peoples Snapmatics aren't very appealing and photo modes in games come with filters and/or lighting options like Insomniac. Just let's them 'pop' better.

That's honestly something I hope they bring back with E&E. I'm sure it won't make a huge difference when it comes to 9th gen hardware

I don't think they can. Bringing the trees back would mess with custom created jobs and such, I think.

That's the excuse they used last time but since then Rockstar themselves have changed the damn map multiple times! Even then why not at least enable to original tree and foliage placement for Single Player only?

    Yeah it won't be too much burden for these new machines to stream more trees with detailed shadows from the distance.Reason why this area looks kinda disappointing is due to the level of detail system won't stream grass model with proper shadows from distant view,when there are no trees,scene just looks empty in a bad way.And gta v ain't alone,basically even lots of games from ps4 generation suffers from the same problem:they look good from close point of view but as long as you go to a open wilder environment,lod system will make you wanna puke.There are nothing ,just a bare mountain without trees,and low quality models&textures only make things feel worse.

    The only exceptions from last gen actually managed to achieve the desirable results are RDR2,thanks to its advanced rendering techniques with satisfying optimization tricks and genius map design,basically when you are on the way reaching to supposed greener mountains from a "not that far away" distance,the grass models are remain there so what you have won't be just plain green textures;to add for much more immersion,even the grass shadows can be noticed from photo mode free cameras.And another golden boy is Horizon Zero Dawn,this one have clever map design as well,sceneries are consist of many beautiful looking models most of the time so you just won't have major immersion breaking issues;Comparing to rdr2 it uses even higher quality assets for some stuff although the shadow and model detail popin are a little more crazier.

   Anyway,whatever they plan to do with this game,you know,like actually bother to add more objects to the map or not or anything else....at least they'll do the right thing to make it look better,one thing they never fail!

That might be a nice compromise, but I think it'd be too late for such a thing at this point. Everyone is used to the trees and foliage not being there, and it might be a bit insignificant to most people. Remember that probably 99% of people playing the game don't have any idea whatsoever that the trees and foliage were actually there at some point, so it'd be a bit odd to suddenly have it.

But that doesn't necessarily mean reebot of the story and events of current online. Everything happened but in LS, it's just story of new character set in new area.
