Standalone GTA Online launching on PS5 in 2021

315 members have voted

  1. 1. What major changes can we expect at launch of PS5/XSX versions and standalone Online in the second half of 2021?

    • Technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements only
    • Map expansion (Liberty City, North Yankton...)
    • Social Club overhaul
    • Gameplay additions
    • Something else
  2. 2. At what point can we expect GTA Online updates to stop on PS4/X1 versions?

GTA IV +episodes remaster with an online mode more similar to GTA V would've made much more sense, since many people like those games and hate how none of those are available on PS4. What could they possibly "enhance" about GTA V+O anymore?

The can go full MMO with map expansions and larger story dlcs for both SP and Online (like ESO does). But knowing Rockstar, it will be the same copy-pasted content on a new tiny island or something like that.

Love GTAO.  Character development transferring better not be console exclusive, but a story mode game is the foundation of the series. I've had great times playing GTAO, but the loading, trolls, toxic newbs and squeakers on mics, all of it can eat a bag of turds. If this means no Story or GTA6 proper, well, lame.

I really hope for wheel fitment options. I am at a car Culture crew and mainly on car meets. Wheel fitment options would just make possible so many individual styles for the cars.

Most wheel fitments are bad looking or just too tiny wheels. Let us change it.

Also expecting 4K and 60fps which is great.

We shouldn’t have to buy the game 3-5 times just to get some super trivial enhancements and cosmetics that they could easily add into the base game. What the hell. They’re milking this cow to death this sh*t isn’t okay

I agree I’ve put that much into this game that a chance to transfer all of that to a fully realised rendition of it is  appealing...that is as long as like you say there are quality of life elements woven in and wanted cosmetics added.

I do remember having incredibly unrealistic expectations for the Xbox one version having said that and being so disappointed I didn’t touch it for at least 6 months after seeing it was pretty much the same game.

If you ever felt useless, there is a PS5 remaster of GTA from seven years ago which is still being milked to these days. No remaster will ever fix engine issues and limitations we are facing now (car storage system, traffic behavior, primitive AI) or will be able to actually overcome mission design limitations. No remaster will ever provide what most fans are expecting: a new map.

Rooftop rumble in 2021 makes zero sense even in 4k, because it made no sense in 4k in 2019 when I have played it. It makes even less sense in 100+ Hz too, if you are wondering, I've tried that too.  I'm not interested in any remasters unless they are bringing new map, new physics, new AI, new storyline... Hold on, that's a new game we're talking here! So, hard pass on any remastered deals, especially paid. I've got rid of V on my SSD and I need to be seriously tripping to pay for another 'remastered' copy if it even comes to PC.

I was really let down by the absence of working windshield wipers. That seems so idiotic even in 2014 that it took some time to get used to, considering the amount of rain I've seen in this game,

I wonder how many more updates the current gen will get? Sounds like they’ll get updates in tandem with next gen but next gen will get exclusive stuff and then current gen will eventually be jettisoned like ps3 and 360 before it. It’s like f*cking ground hog day...

If they split GTA Online and GTA 5, where is the game going to throw into every time the server does a whoopsie 12 times per day?

Dashboard to compensate for the loading times you may otherwise miss.

If like RDRO, it'll just crash and dump us back to the PS screens, lol.

Yes, especially if "expanded and enhanced" doesn't mean actual fresh content. If it's the same old GTA V, totally nay.

When we are talking about map EXPANSIONS, are we talking about land extension and objects added into the current map or some kind of separate islands next to LS? Now, I'm pretty sure they're not gonna create a whole San Fierro or something next to LS, so what kind of map "expansions" would even make sense and be worth it?

and also if the PC version is to continue on they seriously need to figure out how to stop the cheaters/hackers/script kiddies or w/e you call them from ruining player experiences.

They have the money to make significant changes within the game and the time to do it. If not I can't see GTA V Redux being a smashing success.

PC players are already here and have been playing since 2015 with their 4k and 60fps. They don't need to shell out $700+ in 2021 to experience this. Fix the PC problems and you'll have a decent chunk of the community already enjoying and playing the newness of GTA Online for more years to come.

Huge nay from me, what the f*ck are they thinking?

Last gen

PC

Current gen (twice)

I'm not buying a fifth copy of what will be a roughly 8 year old game, even a slightly cheaper online only edition.

It won't happen, but these greedy f*cks need a reality check. The next GTA is all but confirmed to be released over a decade after V initially released, there's no way we get VI before 2023 after this. All because they can't stop milking the cash cow.

Just my 2p worth guys and girls

GTAV has now crossed multiple platforms. The simple reason GTAO, with it coming to PS5 Rockstar now has an opportunity to keep its main (if it’s not I apologise) revenue stream in place)-Sharkcards.

Rockstar as a business is IN the business of making money. It has a hugely successful IP so why would it not exploit this.

Now onto the theory re GTA6 & GTAO. There will be no GTA6 (or titled like that) GTAO on the PS5 will essentially be GTA6 if you get my meaning.

Evidence: As above shark card sales but the main one is those screenshots from a few years ago re liberty city being PS4 scaled up, remember them.

Also when GTAO was created I think it was one of the Hiusers or Leslie Benzies from an article I saw that they wanted multiple islands moving forward. Think about it Rockstar will use the power of the PS5 and next Xbox and recreate liberty city, they only have to scale up GTAV and have probably been working on GTA6 as per the rumours going about (see the Yan/Tez vs the journalist debate 6s development).

The fact that GTAO is “splitting” from GTAV is to me anyway the biggest hint that’s the way it’s going for Rockstar.

Hopping between islands opens up a plethora of opportunities for future DLCs as they hinted at in the announcement.

What do you think?

Then its time for the revolution. If want to tell R* we are tired of their sh*t now is the time with this rerelease of gta v. It worked for star wars so its gonna work for gta.

I don’t think there will ever be a purchase or subscription for GTAO after it’s free because it makes a ton of money without that. Shark cards are huge outside the vocal minority who say they never would buy them. Full GTAV itself has been heavily discounted and given away free before. They’ve made back the initial dev cost, even though it was one of the most expensive games ever, many times over. They know it will be a platform for millions in future Shark Card sales.

It’s filler. GTA 6 isn’t coming out any time soon so they’re gonna re-release 5 on next gen so we don’t get even more impatient. Would love to see a GTA 4 + 5 + Online bundle since 4 is a masterpiece on its own and deserves to be re-lived more than 5. That would’ve definitely been a better way to re-release this. But oh well, expect a GTA 6 announcement next year and the release 2 years after that.

Tbh, there is already a sitstorm all over the internet after the announcement. There are some bootlickers there and there but I've never seen this backlash when it comes to Rockstar before.

I've already posted this across Twitter but I feel like GTA Online going standalone is the start of separate franchises. It's probably already been said in this topic but I haven't read all the pages. If Rockstar can manage to have some studios put GTAO on top of an updated engine like used in RDO, they could start to flesh it out and keep updating it like an MMO as it's own game with actual map expansions and DLC. That leaves the rest of the studios to do what they actually do best and what draws the most people to their games; amazing singleplayer stories. I've seen a lot of hate towards Rockstar since last night but they did release a masterpiece of a story less than 2 years ago; they will never abandon that format, GTA Online is just it's own beast now and a lot of these monetary decisions come from further up in Take-Two. Imagine trying to release GTA 6 on next-gen with it's own multiplayer while trying to keep GTA Online updated... in essence I don't think they can, hence the splitting.

A remaster of IV would actually be something to get excited about. Especially if they adapted its online component to be on par with V’s online mode.

This really does amount to just a slightly better looking GTAO with a few exclusives to sweeten the pot. It’s actually insulting to me as a day one player of every GTA going back to III.

I think they know it'll not please us old grinders and freeloaders and simply couldn't care less. Too many petitions over other aspects that deserved attention got ignored and they've done too well to split the audience.

Just my thoughts.

Will PC be getting whatever enhancements the PS5/FridgeBox version may have though

My thoughts as a long time GTAO Player since 2013; bought the game 5 times already, spent over 1000 hrs and owns nearly everything I want in the game so far. This reveal doesn’t excite me especially if it is just a graphical and technical upgrade (like from PS3 to PS4) with no real content and we have to wait for the 2 DLC drops per year again.

Its time to move on R*, away from Los Santos and SSA. Seriously, GTA5 is my game of the decade but I really need a new map. LS created today would be much larger than what we have since 2013 and far more detailed. But if we had Northern San Andreas with both San Fierro and Las Venturas included with this ‘expanded and enhanced’ upgrade then we are talking! Or Liberty City recreated to fit the world of GTA Online, or modern day Saint Denis.

Disappointed by the expectation that GTA6 will be even further away now.

Ofc. PS5 just gets 3 months of exclusivity. If you are talking about graphics, you already have them since 2015. PS5 version will look like the PC one.

Remastered? Enhanced? What is with gaming nowadays when every game has to be re-released with a "remastered" sticker slapped on it.

GTA V is turning 8 years old when this new remastered version is released so please R* give it a rest and give us a new game
