Standalone GTA Online launching on PS5 in 2021

315 members have voted

  1. 1. What major changes can we expect at launch of PS5/XSX versions and standalone Online in the second half of 2021?

    • Technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements only
    • Map expansion (Liberty City, North Yankton...)
    • Social Club overhaul
    • Gameplay additions
    • Something else
  2. 2. At what point can we expect GTA Online updates to stop on PS4/X1 versions?

No.

It is something I'd want of course, but also much more too. It's probably the only thing that'll see me transfer and play on though. So long as lobby choices aren't removed of course, lol. I can see that happening and this game become more like RDRO and truly force the PvE and PvP player clashing.

I think it'll just be 'as is' but with some longer requested DLC themes to dangle a carrot in hope of pulling more over. :)

If they don't expand the game with new areas and fresh content, then Rockstar clearly became EA 2.0. And I'm talking about 2013-2017 EA.

Im a bit confused, the Trailer ist clearly named NEXT GEN, but the watermark Shows PS4 , and IT looked Like PS4. Or should this be already PS5 footage? That would ne very disappointing

It's all old footage, from the very first trailer in 2011 to the latest GTA Online DLC trailers.

Sorry if I sound like a whiner, but I have to get it off my chest. Whenever you agree or disagree is up to you.

Anyway, I can't even describe the level of anger and disgust I have for this announcement right now. This is a game that was announced nine years ago, NINE YEARS. Admist the PS5's big reveal, this is all Cockstar has to show for themselves? By the time this re-re-mastered version is out, it'll have been released in a good 3 generations total. I bought the game day one on PS3 and played through that, I bought the PS4 version as well and I 100%ed that, so why the f*ck would I want to play through it AGAIN? I don't give a sh*t if it's free this time, it's not as if there will be some major upgrades minus some lighting tweaks and sharper textures, all the old issues with both single-player and multiplayer will still be there.

And even worse than this? Red Dead Redemption 2 will (mark my words) be getting the EXACT same treatment very soon, so there's another re-release of a game you already completed to stay tuned for! I'd be willing to bet that the reason they're doing this is so they can milk the multiplayer components for even longer. That's why I say Online ruined GTA, it transformed a brilliant franchise into a piece of sh*t cash-cow that still gets milked dry to this day. And people wonder why Benzies and Houser threw in the towel.

Even the trailer reuses footage from earlier ones, lazy cunts!

F*ck Rockstar.

I'm hoping they improve on the dated game mechanics and drastically speed up the loading times.

This is all so tiring, not just the umpteenth V remaster, but gaming on console in general. It may be time to finally join the mustard rice..

Do it! It was the best gaming decision I've made and saved me a lot of money in the long run.

I abandoned consoles after the Wii disappointed me. Built my PC in 2012 for around $700 and it's still going strong today. Plan on building a new one next year which should last another 8yrs or so. AMD has made things easier and affordable too with their killer and cheap line up of cpus.

But anyway just do it.

It'll be like the 2014 re-release all again - the only difference I expect is that where the XB1/PS4 re-release had exclusive content in both single-player and online, I reckon that whatever exclusive vehicles/weapons/whatever are going to be the incentive this time, they won't necessarily get added to single-player as well. Anything else, like some entire new map done to the same level as everything else in GTAO, is expecting too much, IMO.

damn, I forgot how angry you guys are on here lol...

but can we focus on gta online part not storymode, I completed storymode once on ps3 and that was it....most of my gta time is online

I am actually optimistic about gta online on ps5, I never really jump on hype trains, I like to stay neutral and try to avoid spoilers so I can enjoy things like DLCs and be pleasantly surprised..

not this time my hope are up, I fully expect gameplay changes, a lot more content and some form of map expansion.....gta online is not dead so may as well move along with the next gen

it seems like people are more upset that gta 6 was not the announcement tbh

anyway, I have had no issues with gta or rockstar in anyway since i picked up gta san andreas....it has always been an enjoyable experience and my time playing gta online (in its prime) was the best gaming ive ever had....and its not even over!

maybe you guys are burnt out or really had high hopes which is kinda your fault lol, I had my hopes high once for a DLC, was let down and never did again, since then everything has been golden lol...

I play once in a while now but I welcome it to ps5, for those of us that are less than pleased...sorry I guess, vent away!

Yeah, I've no expectations though wouldn't object to Yankton or something, but its very unlikely at best. My biggest fear would be invite only going and this becoming more like RDRO, but we'll see.

This really does give me mixed feelings and I keep flipping as to weather I'll enjoy it or not, lol. I can see good potential and would want this story mode, and older GTA/RDR, added to the PS store so I can play whatever but not keep changing consoles for the older catalog of games. But I can see plenty of bad too.

If the DLC's are much like the casino heist in how flexible and more player friendly it is, then I can see me enjoying stuff like usual, and though I do understand some complaints, like the map's age, I can't see GTA VI coming any sooner had they not made this deal with Sony/chose to re-re-master.

I'm just gonna play it by ear, and hope for epic garage spaces, lol. Though it is a real shame this gen only got RDR2 and no new GTA to enjoy. :)

So far i know we get gta online on ps5, stand alone.
It can be anything, it can be a total different gta online game what we know, it can be a gta VI version of online gaming. Thats what i hope, but my expectations are low.

(i forgot that enhanced thing!)

Now lets be fair, if this and the next gen versions were a straight remake or port to the RDR2 engine with all the benefits like better animations, vastly improved graphics, god rays etc then...I would pay for it but if its just gonna be a port of the same lame ass PS3 engine with prettier graphics then nah.

As a huge GTA fan I am buying this version. I will already own a PS5 buy this point and am excited to see what changes they make.

So what next gen exclusives do we think R* will add to the PS5 version? What can be done that can't be done on current systems?

I mean they can add fan favs updates such as mansions, midnight club, naval missions, vinewood movies etc on current gen.

As the PC version is staying the same (as far as I can tell) I don't think R* will overhaul the current systems in place in freeroam. I don't see them making new servers for CNC mode or changing the CEO/MC roles significantly from what they are now.

I can only imagine map expansions as the most suitable (and desired) option to continue GTAO for most of next gen's lifecycle.

The fact that they're releasing it in 2021 tells me that it'll be on a more recent version of Rage. Likely one which is even more improved over the RDR 2 one.

I hope so. I might get sh*t for it but I would buy it and play GTAV again just to see the world in looking like RDR2

It'd probably look better than RDR2.

Though it'll take more than an engine upgrade to do that. Everything would need remodeling and retexturing.

It depends on the level that they are willing to go. I just wonder what they'll do with the PC version. Will it just be like any other update, or could we get a new PC version? We'll have to wait and see.

Would love to get Fun's genuine take on just how enhanced this 3rd port will be... I mean, if there was a fresh map coming, surely they would have led with that? As for a more advanced version of RAGE? that sounds even less likely that a map expansion. I see people speculating dedicated servers and  vast overhaul of damage and handling ect... I would severely temper expectations if you believe R* won't try to coast on the absolute bare minimum of using weapons and vehicles that are the most requested to bribe people over. Comet Classic and ZR350 as well as cut SP weapons are all items I bet they'll use to incentivise people to upgrade, and that will be a low blow IMO but totally expected.

Doing this is completely redundant as well because Microsoft and Sony have already announced that the Xbox Series X and PS5 will be backwards compatabile with Xbox One and PS4 games. The 2014 re-release at least made some sense due to a lack of backwards compatability on the PS4 (due to the PS3's complex hardware), as well as the potential for visual upgrades and content expansion, but what's the excuse to do it again? Rockstar are f*cking retarded. Practically everyone has played GTA V at this point. It was a fine game for it's time, but I doubt many are going to want to go back and play through it yet again on a new console. And the fact that they're aiming for a late 2021 release (an entire 10 years since the game was announced) makes this whole thing even more pathetic.

This is coming from the rockstar who reused the 12 year old GTA IV  tv trailer for the incomplete edition on PC. And because it's the old trailer it doesn't include eflc. 3 games in one nope recycle.

They just listed a series of buzzwords. I expect the least amount of effort. Backwards compatibility so no transfers or anything. Just sign into social club. Why you think they were pushing social club so hard with those bonuses and stuff.  You will have to buy gtao on 9th gen if you don't get it the first 3 months.  Gtav/o  will be the same except it will have higher fps, slightly higher resolution textures, and content will only be for 9th gen. Essentially just a slightly dumbed down version of the PC game. I would be surprised if they did more than this.

sounds horrible, but im afraid, that this will be the case...map expansion or any other revolutionary stuff is an illusion imo.

If you expect anything but more grass you might be setting your expectations a bit high. Online for current gen couldn't even match the ambience or physics of single player for last gen

For me to be excited about this I need 2 things: Character Transfer and Map Expansion. If either of these arent involved, I cant see myself getting excited.

imagine no character transfer (so no money, rp, guns, clothing, unlocks etc)

BUT

two new islands (within San andreas/ los santos/ blaine county).... and an updated liberty city from gta 4 (almost instant load from airport)

would you make the move to ps5?

So here is a different view on this new (PS5) GTA Online version. I think this could actually be really good news for us players in the long run however to be honest I might be way off in my speculation and way to optimistic about R* plans but who knows.

I find it interesting that it will take almost a year (possibly even longer than that if its been in the works for some time now) to remaster or essentially 'graphically update' a PS4 game for a PS5 considering some games might have backwards compatibility anyway. Granted i dont have experience in game design so that might be normal timeframe for something like that but you'd think they would release such version with the actual release of PS5.

I think whats going on is that they could be planning on updating or rebuilding the game from the ground up to match GTA 6 engine and/or specs so that when GTA 6 does finally release on PS5 down the line, its map can simply be added to current version of GTA Online (sort of combining GTA 5 and GTA 6 maps) instead of releasing completely new GTA Online 2.0. They did mention long time ago that there were plans for a GTA World type game which GTA Online could be however it propably cant be in current state.

Honestly, I just don't know, lol.

I'd have to look at it all nearer the time. But if I got it for free, I can see me pop on for a look at least. But given how this online went in areas (balance, public only, arena), and RDRO is (no lobby choices), I would expect the worst and if so, soon quit.

The idea of starting over isn't too much of a deterrent, if the gaming is good, I'd soon make a mint. But I'd not want to have to commit daily like in RDRO to make decent gold for example, that'd be a real turn off too.

And the thought of nagging texts/phone calls already hurts my brain, lol.

Cyberpunk 2077 can't come soon enough.

There needs to be some sort of (literal) hostile takeover over at Take-Two, but one can only dream.
