Should Vice City have had an introduction video?

Recommended Posts

watersgta3

GTA San Andreas had an introduction explaining everything that happened a day prior to the storyline. I felt that Vice City could've had an introduction video as well. Sure we have VCS, but I still felt that a few more things could be explored before the main storyline. We could've seen a brief scene that showed what Tommy was doing in prison and his relationship with the other inmates, what Sonny and his boys were doing before getting the news that Tommy would be out tomorrow, a brief scene the Vance brothers showing how they were living after two years and explain why Vic decided to revert to drug dealing after swearing them off for good the last two years (yes, I know that VCS wasn't a thought when VC came out, but still, we could've had at least a brief explanation of Vic's change of mind after the former game was released), hell we could've seen how Colonel Cortez found out about Gonzalez stealing his coke and how he arranged the drug deal. I felt that VC could've used an introduction video as well. Agree or disagree?

Disagree...

Tommy had no ties at all or reasons to bring up anyone in prison, we didn't know who he was as a character and thus would have no reason to care about him at that point at the start of the game.

What would be the point of this? We see the cutscene that introduces him WITH the news that Tommy would be getting out and how they plan to deal with him.

As pointed out, VCS wasn't a thing at this point, Vic was just meant to be a throw away plot device to have Lance tied to the story. IF this came out after VCS then Rockstar would have no reason to even as it would have been too long after the games release.

This was figured out DURING the story of Vice City.

I disagree. I like the fact that the story was unfurled in a different way, throughout the missions. San Andreas had a perfectly different setting and gave the basics of what was going on, leading to events of the game. On the other hand, Vice City didn't. I don't even think Tommy had anything to do with anyone in the prison, making such a scene completely unnecessary. The chat/convo between Sonny and the other guys in the mob was more than enough to let you know. Vance brothers re-doing drugs wasn't essential to VC's story in any way. It's left best the way it is. VCS was an afterthought and some ties are better left loose.

P.S: The whole thing with Cortez and Gonalez takes place after a few missions and hence keep it later as an entire mission makes more sense in my opinion.

Evil empire

Vice City essentially needs a remake with a more consistent and expanded story even if the vanilla game is pretty enjoyable.

I am sure after Mafia 1 remake will be out and it will be pure crap, no one ever will wish again a remake of classic game :) .

You mean like how CJ didn't have any ties or reasons to bring up his life in Liberty City? None of us knew who CJ was as a character either prior to the game's opening cutscene for the mission.

To set up their motivation in the game. I think we could've seen what Sonny's motives were before he even knew Tommy was about to be released and give him a reason why he felt Tommy's presence would be detrimental to business.

Well yeah, VCS obviously wasn't planned during the time of the game's release, but Vic saying he doesn't want to touch drugs at the end of VCS contradicts his actions in the intro of VC. So they could've at least explained why Vic would all of a sudden go against his word.

Overall, I think that Vice City could've used an introduction as well. It obviously wouldn't have been big as San Andreas, but the fact that there were a few unexplained details in the game definitely should've been explained more clearly.

For this one however, it was brought up in San Andreas multiple times by Sweet, Ryder, Salvatore, etc, AND it worked as a way to show us, the player, a place we (assumingly) would already know with links to characters we already know (how CJ is working for Joey Leone), where as Tommy mentions his time in prison like once in the story in VC and he doesn't mention any links or connections to it.

Yeah I'd like to see Tommy in prison and find out who said he had big cajones.
