Britishdevelopment can do the job of making a Stagecoach!

I am not a vehicle modder (I have done bits of work on vehicle models so I understand how some of it works) but I am interested to know which vehicles you think Rockstar have created in GTAV, that allow for the features required for a steerable-axle trailer that the player can sit in? I presume that's what you meant by "Can only Rockstar do it?".

 

There are no vehicles with a steerable front axle. There are no trailers that the game will let the player be a driver of, or even sit in. So have you considered that these modders haven't walked away because the challenge is "beyond their ability" but because it is beyond this game engine's ability? Maybe they have a far better understanding of the game's capabilities than you do, and have recognised that this game's engine doesn't allow that kind of vehicle to exist or work. Consider the airport baggage trailers, one of the better known vehicle modders made a set and they had rigid axles... that should tell you everything you need to know about that aspect of things. The model hierarchy typically has to support that type of linkage for it to work.

 

I mean I can think of a possible way to get round the steerable front-axle limitation (that probably wouldn't work) but not the driveable trailer aspect of it. This is a game where the physics engine relies on the vehicle engine to propel the vehicle, unless it's a bicycle but the minute you start driving the stagecoach, your horse isn't pulling it, it's actually getting pushed by the vehicle. If you've ever tried to push a vehicle with nobody in it, you'll know that it isn't a simple task. If you spawn a trailer, you can't warp into it because it's not designed to have that ability... as far as I am aware anyway.

 

This all might work in RDR2 but GTAV isn't RDR2 and it isn't using RDR2's transport engine. You might be asking the impossible and making it seem like the modders just weren't up to the task. That's not going to encourage people to get involved when it's a game-engine limitation. Your approach should have been to ask the vehicle modders "Is this idea possible?" first, and then based on the answer, to ask "Can someone do this idea now that I know it is possible?". I think you would get a far more receptive audience with that approach.

Hey thanks. As motorcycle the axel can work. As trailer I can attach to horse ped to pull it.

Britishdevelopment is comfortable with the challenge.

I asked many but the ones that could make it happen are busy.

So issue resolved for me.

It's the Stagecoach. I just got up an hour ago and threw this script together for you to see.. Peds won't pull vehicles, you need more 🐎 power. It's a dirty script but shows horses can pull vehicles🤓

You may want to keep an eye on the mod. It's in GTAV Total Conversion section.😁

I don't really like the wild-west as a game theme (which is why I don't like the RDR games) but as a game-designer, I am always interested to see people push boundaries beyond where they were originally set. This idea with the stagecoach wheels and axles kept me awake for almost 3 hours last night because once a problem gets in my head, it won't go away... designer's curse you could call it.

 

I did have an idea about how the steering-axle could be done by offsetting the wheel-mesh from the wheel dummy to create an extended axle... I don't know if it would work though. You typically have [HUB][WHEEL][MESH] and the wheel rotates around the hub dummy, with the mesh at the same location.

 

So I thought, what if you have [HUB][WHEEL]==============[MESH], where the ==== are the axle mesh parts for the wheel and the [HUB][WHEEL] dummies are near the centre of the stagecoach chassis.... would that cause the wheel to rotate through a greater arc, simulating a steering-axle?

 

Looks good what you ended up with anyway. 👍

Wait till Britishdevelopment gets done. I'm blender he can animate horses legs, axel. He will be making this model. http://m.cadnav.com/mview-46791.html

 

Boy I feel you... I get OCD when developing a mod. I'm not that good but put myself to extreme challenge. Sorry to have kept you up lol. I was up till 1:30am and back at it by 5:30am. I put about 14-19 hours a day into this mod. Too bad you don't like westerns, sounds like you could help me in ways. Anyway it's scripted with Lua. I downloaded 4 or 5 scripts and tried to learn. I know my codes are not that good but I'm doing it. 

Anyway, thanks for your input.
