Made this purely as a dedicated space for people to discuss the recent events in America to prevent the DLC Speculation Thread getting locked due to the idea of a Cops themed update being discussed for many weeks before his death and the ensuing riots.

I personally have nothing to say on the matter, other than heed the words of George Floyd's brother.

this was the only thing that I seen today at imgur public image gallery that didn't show bruised  protestors from rubber bullets and or police vehicles ramming into protest crowds

you should of posted it in Expression because these types of threads get  heated up with different opinion's and get  hostile  and political

Lots of names in between Rodney King and George Floyd.  Even more names if you start at Medgar Evers.  But as they like to use the phrase "in modern history" when it comes to trump and his actions, I feel we can start at Rodney King.

I was a white kid at the end of the civil rights movement of the late 60s.  There were great strides and growing up in a mixed environment where noone said anyone was different...it felt like everyone was naturally getting along.  At least that how it was in my little world.

I was an adult by the Rodney King riots.

Dispite the current craziness, injustice, death, and all the offshoots of craziness...I have a good feeling that we will come out of this one as better people.

I hope you're right. Living in Northern Ireland I've been lucky to come in near the end of a very violent period in my country's history. Things are still tender and there still lingers a shadow of 300 years, but there is a peace and realisation. For those that would stand and defy the odds and even those who would fight an oppression, there are those who would never be satisfied except to see it all burn to the ground. There are agitents on both sides who can see nothing but petty glory, justified by the suffering and struggle of others. George was another unfortunate soul in the wrong place at the wrong time, who did not deserve his fate. Yet as many mourne him and are hopeful for lessons learned, here we are, witness to the worst of all of us and the monsters we are inside. When will the rest learn not to feed the demon but stand, listen and be the better person. Let George rest and bring us peace in our time.

I am very sorry for the passing of George Floyd, mostly because of the mistreatment by the police, however it's very likely that he'll become just another victim of police brutality in USA when things quite down. The rough year basically transisions every month from topic to topic. The general populace is scared and when people are scared, put in a corner they lash out. We can see the riots throughout the streets in US as an example. I am sure the riot would be on a much smaller scale if it wasn't for COVID-19. But the fact is the disease is out there, people are losing jobs, the world economy is getting hit in the gut worse than in 2008.  Something like this was to be expected (riots not the killing of George Floyd)

We are not having our year that's for sure and in these tough times we as a society make it just worse for ourselves.

Derek Chauvin definitely killed the guy. He kept his knee on there well after George Floyd had lapsed into unconsciousness. He didn't give a sh*t who was watching (and recording) him either.

He's got to go down surely. The others too.

Pretty outrageous.

Every time an unarmed black American is murdered by a police officer somewhere in the United States, I ask myself why is this still happening? Why do those sad outcomes have to repeat themselves? Why are black Americans so much feared and hated? What have they done in the past to still be labelled, disrespected, physically oppressed, enslaved and murdered by officers of the law? What have they done that is so wrong to cause so much hatred from beyond 400 years ago until now?

Visual investigation on George Floyd's arrest and murder.

Viewer discretion advised.

All I wanted to say was that it’s baffling but not surprising how ignorant and dismissive people can be about the plight and suffering of my people when they don’t have to deal with these issues personally and can just ignore it. We say black lives matter and we get told “all lives matter “ even though not all lives are being snuffed out like my people, aside from native Americans really. I grew up in Kentucky and my 81 year old black grandmother shed tears talking me today about how little has changed from the time she was a girl. My mother and grandmother tell me their greatest fear is me being targeted and killed by police. I’ve “fit” more descriptions than I’d reasonably believe to be possible and I’ve been harassed by police since I was a child. We tried to kneel and peacefully protest and people shat on us, dismissed us, killed us and told us to shut up. We’ve reached the boiling point. This all could’ve been stopped a long time ago, but this country is reaping what it sewed. I’m not advocating nor dismissing the violence that’s going on. Just know that this is what happens when  people have been pushed to the edge. All this destruction is the direct result of many many decades of suffering and maltreatment. Good job America. Now we can’t be ignored.

I was looking through the Washington Post database of people killed by police since 2017. 50% were white. 26% were black. 19% were hispanic. Other races were 5%. People may say that blacks are only 13% of the population. What must also be considered is blacks commit over 50% of homicides.

The mental gymnastics people go through to somehow downplay or even justify the disproportionate number of police killings with black victims truly boggles the mind.

The biggest predictor and structural factor of (violent) crime convictions is socio-economic status. Note the emphasis on the word convictions, due to how the US criminal justice system operates and its emphasis on plea bargaining I have serious learned doubt as to the actual factual guilt upon which these statistics are predicated. That having been said, studies have shown similiar rates of violent crime in extremely low-income predominantly black communities and extremely low-income white communities. Here's the kicker: There are lot more extremely low-income disadvantaged black communities. In actual fact, the national poverty rate for black people is more than double as high. With even starker disparaties and poverty rates triple or even quadruple that of whites on the state level. A sad legacy of hundreds of years of racism.

The only mental gymnastics is coming from the person who's making excuses for the high murder rate by black people. The more murders a group commits, the more dangerous and violent they are. The more dangerous and violent they are, the more likely they're going to be killed by police. Yes, it's mainly because of poverty that they become violent criminals, but they're still responsible for their actions. That proves they're not getting killed because of their race though.

@Raavi

i was honestly about to tear this dude a new one, but two things.

1. He just joined Tuesday. He’s 100% a baity troll.

2. That kind of mentality is just senseless and shouldn’t be entertained. If he’s serious I feel very sorry for him.

coming from the south we deal with people like that all the time. We just kinda roll our eyes and just dismiss it as the small minded garbage that it is.

And it goes without saying, STATICALLY and HISTORICALLY, white people have been the most violence and dangerous species on the planet. But that’s not coming from a place of malice or disrespect, just stats..

But shouldn't the people stand together in this situation rather than rioting, seems the US is f*cked, I doubt they get out of this economic disaster well.

This is an obvious non sequitur; none of these statements implicitly never mind explicitly follows the former.

A sequence of logical fallacies obviously does no such thing.

Can I say something from eastern europe?

Stop dragging whole world into your problems. You drag us into your oil wars and now it seems that you drag whole world into your race war ...

When I open every goddamn "Brand" facebook they are only talking about this, like I need to feel guilt for your poor social politics.

We there never experienced riots, like never in 100 years history of our republic . I probably never remeber event when cop killed someone in custody here. We have cops here very well trained and they even need some degree from school and psychological evaluation . Yes we have there ghettos, but guns are hard to obtain here.

We make everything here to handle coronvairus, every person take a part and USA only care to buy guns and shouting "muh freedom" ... Thats the problem.

I don't think you understand the problem. When stuff like this happens you should be pissed off. Getting pulled over and beaten just because of the color of your skin.

No but racism is. Say a black person goes to your part of the world in Eastern Europe. They'd most likely be detained by local cops, refused service, or beaten.

That’s a ridiculous statement and totally unqualifiable.

I like to travel and wherever I’ve been I’ve seen fellow black travellers and they’re doing the same thing I’m doing without any issues.

Nope I’m allowed to have an opinion on it sorry mate.

Have you been to Poland and Croatia? I’ve been there with black friends and I can assure you they had the same trip as me.

also my wife is Middle Eastern and had the same trip as me and we met many friendly locals.
