Chain Game Code - Version 2.2

General Description

The GTA Vice City Chain Game is a Forum-Based Relay Game for the PC Version of Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Players take it in turns to complete Grand Theft Auto Vice City "from Zero to Hero", starting a new Save File at the very beginning of the game and taking it all the way through to 100% Completion.

Anyone is allowed to join in and participate in the Chain Game, whether you are completely new to the Chain Game or are an existing player. Take a look through the 'Quick Start Guide' before you take your first turn, and then feel free to jump straight into the action! The Quick Start Guide will give you an overview of how the Chain Game works and will outline several important Chain Game Rules that must be followed during your turn.

The Chain Game Rules have been designed so that the game is played fairly and can progress smoothly, with all players being able to have an enjoyable experience of contributing to the Chain Game Goal, which is the creation of a 100% Save File. It is strongly advised that the full detailed set of 'GTA Vice City Chain Game Rules' are read by all players at least once to ensure that the game can progress smoothly and all players have an enjoyable experience playing.

Quick Start Guide

This Quick Start Guide is designed to familiarise you with the rules of the Chain Game so that you can get right into the action and take your first turn!

Take a Turn
Start a Chain Game Turn by making a post in this round thread which allows all players of a game to know that you are taking a turn, so that they do not take one themselves. A simple "I'll take a turn" will be enough, but you're free to be as creative as you choose, as long as you make it clear you're taking one!

If you've already taken a turn in the round, you will need to wait until either two further valid turns have been completed or an uninterrupted four hour period without a turn being called passes before you can take another.

Download the Save File
A link to the Save File will be in the previous Chain Game Turn once completed.

If the Save File is not working when you try and load it in your game, it may be because you need to convert it for the version of the game you are running. You can find more information on the Save File Differences between game versions and how to convert the Chain Game Save Files to your version of the game in the 'Save File Differences' post in the Chain Game Lounge.

Make Progress
The Time Limit to complete your Chain Game Turn is Three Hours. During this time, you are allowed to complete up to one Story or Payphone Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

You are not allowed to get Busted, Wasted or Fail a Mission, Rampage or Side Mission. If this happens, you must restart your turn or reload from the last valid save if you had saved earlier in your turn.

You are also not allowed to use any Cheats or Modifications during the duration of your turn and should play on an unmodified version of the game.

Saving and Uploading a Save File that is found to be breaking the Chain Game Rules will result in your turn being invalidated and any progress made during the turn will effectively be reverted to the previous Valid Turn.

Save and Upload
Complete your turn by saving the game and uploading the Save File. GTASnP.com is the preferred upload service for your Save File but you may use any file sharing website that grants free download access without the need for registration.

Edit Your Post
When you've uploaded your Save File, press the 'Edit' Button in the lower right corner of the post and use the Posting Format found below, or copied directly from the 'Chain Game' section of the GTASnP.com Page of your Save File. You can alter this format to include colors or fonts of your choice, but all posts are required to have full details of all you have completed, the overall completion percentage and a link to the Save File.

Posting Format

Completed Chain Game Turns are required to include information of what has been completed during the turn, the overall game completion percentage at the end and a link to the Save File for the next player to be able to download.

The following is a template of the recommended Posting Format that is used in your turn:

[b]Mission:[/b]
[b]Link:[/b]
[b]Completion:[/b]
[b]Notes:[/b]

You can copy and paste this template into your post when editing at the end of your turn, fully completing it to include all of the relevant information using the guidance below. You may customise the Posting Format to include Fonts and Colors of your choice and be as creative as you wish, but it is important that no information is missed out as this may cause confusion for other players.

Mission
The Mission Field should include the title of any Mission you have completed, and it is advised to also include the title of any Side Missions that have been completed. If you are using a translator or language option in the game which changes the Save File Title, it is recommended that you write the English Title in your post so that other players can understand what has been completed.

Link
The Link Field should include a URL to the uploaded Save File from your turn. You can use any text you wish as long as there is a working link on the text added by the Post Editor or using BBCode.

Completion
The Overall Game Completion Percentage should be noted here either taken directly from the 'Stats' Menu in the game or through the page of your Save File on GTASnP.com. This information is used for the Chain Game Statistics at the end of the round.

Notes
This is an Optional Field that may be included in your post to detail any additional information about your turn. You should use this area if you have picked up any collectibles, detailing how many you have collected and which they were, and also for the Times and Scores of any Side Missions you have completed which can be found in the 'Stats' Menu in game.

GTA Vice City Chain Game Rules

The Chain Game Rules are designed to keep the game played fairly, so that all players are having an enjoyable experience and the game is making progress. All players should take the time to familiarise themselves with the rules and practices of the Chain Game to ensure that all rounds of the game can progress smoothly.

General Rules

The Chain Game is open for participation to any registered member of GTAForums.com. All Chain Game Players are required to follow the General Rules at all times during their participation in the Chain Game.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Game Version
All players of the Chain Game will need to own Grand Theft Auto Vice City to be able to participate. This round of the Chain Game is being played on PC, and there are several versions of Grand Theft Auto Vice City available for this platform. You should be able to use any PC Release of the game to participate but may need to convert the Chain Game Save Files to the correct version for your game to be able to load them without a game crash.

Save File Differences
There are several versions of Grand Theft Auto Vice City on PC and there is not direct compatibility between each of these versions and their Save Files. The Steam Version of the game has a slightly altered Save File Format that makes it so that Save Files created on a Retail CD/DVD Version of the game cannot be loaded, and players who attempt to load these saves will start a New Game rather than loading the intended Save File. This issue also means that players using the Retail CD/DVD Version of the game who try to load a Save File that was saved on a Steam Version, will find that their game crashes when loading.

Players who own either the Retail Version or the Steam Version of Grand Theft Auto Vice City will be able to participate in the Chain Game but may need to convert the Save File in the previous post if it was created on a Game Version that is different to their own. GTASnP.com includes a Save File Converter that we recommend all players use when they need to convert a Save File for their version of the game.

Players can check the previous Save File's Page on GTASnP.com to determine the 'Release Version' it was created on and, if different to their own, can convert the Save File using the 'Modifications' Section. Detailed instructions on how to use GTASnP.com's Save File Converter can be found in the Chain Game Lounge Post.

The Respect Rule
Respect should be shown to all players of the Chain Game, irrespective of their age, gender, political views, nationality, sexuality or religious views. The Chain Game is played by members of all different backgrounds and this should be respected at all times. Harassment or other discriminatory behaviour is completely unacceptable and is a direct violation of the Chain Game and GTAForums Rules.

Players that make mistakes and accidentally violate Chain Game Rules during their turn, whether a new or existing player, should not mocked or treated unfairly by other players of the game. Remember that everyone was once new to the game and anyone can make honest mistakes.

Use of the Chain Game Round Thread
The Chain Game Round Thread should be used by players to call turns and participate in the game. It is important that the posts made in the thread are kept on topic and that there are no unnecessary comments and replies that are not turn posts. If you’d like to contribute to the Chain Game Community outside of taking turns, you can do so by posting in the Chain Game Lounge or any of the Chain Game Discussion Groups.

The Chain Game Lounge and Discussion Groups
If you'd like to converse with your fellow Chain Game Players, share something from your turns or ask questions about the Chain Game then we have several discussion platforms that we welcome you to join us on:

The Chain Game Lounge - The central discussion area for the Chain Game Players and GTAForums Members. You should use the Lounge for any off topic discussions and to ask questions about the game. The Lounge is also where you will find any important information about the game and Chain Game Announcements that will be posted by the Chain Game Staff.

Discord Server - The Chain Game Discord Server features Text and Voice Channels for all members of the Chain Game Community to use to chat with their fellow players, as well as a channel dedicated to bringing regular updates on when a new Chain Game Announcement is posted or a new Chain Game Round is launched. Anyone is welcome to join the Discord Server using the Invite Link as long as they have a GTAForums Account that is in good standing or have a strong interest in the Chain Game. All members will need to have their nickname set as their GTAForums Username in the server if not already the case, and will be required to follow the server rules at all times. The server is moderated by the Chain Game Staff.

Steam Group - The Chain Game Steam Group is open for any Steam Users that have an interest in the game. You'll find some of the other players that use Steam and get updates on the latest Chain Game Rounds which will be posted in the groups discussion forum by the Chain Game Staff.

Twitter Page - The Chain Game Twitter Page provides regular updates on all of the latest Chain Game News, including when a new round of the game has been launched and when a new Chain Game Announcement has been posted.

Streaming
All players of the Chain Game are free to stream their Chain Game Turns and invite other players to watch them play by providing a link to the stream when they call a turn in the round. Streaming is not mandatory and players are free to choose whether or not they stream their turns.

Several Chain Game Players choose to stream their Chain Game Turns using services such as YouTube and through Steam's Broadcasting Feature. You are free to choose any platform to stream your turns, although we recommend that you choose one that allows anyone to view without the need for registration.

Taking a Turn

Start a Chain Game Turn by making a post in this Chain Game Round Thread to allow all players of the game to know you are taking a turn, so that they do not take one themselves. A simple "I'll take a turn" will be enough, but you're free to be as creative as you choose, as long as you make it clear you're taking one!

You are not allowed to reserve turns in the Chain Game. Under no circumstances may you contact other players to state that you are planning on taking a turn and telling them not to take one themselves, and you may also not make a turn post in the thread while a turn is currently being taken so that you can take a turn when the current player has finished. In both of these cases, your turn will be made invalid and you may face further disciplinary action.

If two players make a post in the Chain Game Thread at the same time, both with the intention to take a turn, then the player who called their turn earlier is the one who takes the turn. Once the first player has completed their turn, the second player should make a new post if they wish to take the following turn instead of using their original post so that they are not considered to be reserving a turn.

Wait Rules
You may only take a turn in the Chain Game if either of the following Wait Rules are no longer in effect. These are rules that keep the game fair by reducing the amount of turns that you can take within a given time period or before a set amount of turns have been completed, in order to give an opportunity for multiple players to take turns. This prevents a situation where a sole player is able to complete a major percentage of the game themselves in a short space of time, which would be against the team focus of the Chain Game.

The Two Turns Wait Rule: You may take another turn if two or more consecutive valid turns from other players have been completed since your previous turn.

The Four Hours Wait Rule: You may take another turn if an uninterrupted four hour period without a turn being called passes at any point since the completion of your previous turn. This four hour period is to be counted from the edit time of either your previous turn or any valid turn made after it. Players may wish to note when calling a turn if an uninterrupted four hour period passed before their turn to make clear that any player is now eligible to take a turn.

Forfeited Turns: Forfeited Turns do not count towards the Wait Rules and do not cancel their effect. You must wait until either two valid turns have been completed or if a four hour period has passed since a valid turn before you are eligible to play again.

Time Limit
The Three Hours Time Limit: The time limit to complete a Chain Game Turn is three hours. This is the time between when a player calls their turn by making a post in the Round Topic, and the time when they edited their post with their completed turn Save File. If more than three hours pass during this period, then the turn will be declared Invalid and the Save File will be discarded.

If you have previously completed a Chain Game Turn and wish to include additional information about your turn at a later time, you will need to specify when your turn was originally completed to prevent the turn being marked as invalid. See 'Late Edit' for more information.

A Time Limit Extension may be granted by a member of Chain Game Staff if there is a valid reason that you are unable to complete your turn within the intended three hour period. Players who wish to have a Time Extension must contact a member of Chain Game Staff as soon as possible and be granted permission to exceed three hours during their turn, or their turn will be declared invalid.

Forfeiting
Any player that has called a turn is allowed to forfeit their turn at any stage if they find themselves unable to complete the intended turn. It is recommended that you only forfeit as a last resort if you are struggling and try to make some contribution towards the game, even if you can't make the kind of contribution you wanted to.

To forfeit a turn, simply edit the turn post and make mention that you wish to forfeit. All forfeited turns will be marked as invalid in the Chain Game Player List, including forfeited turn posts that have been removed from the round topics by members of the GTAForums Staff Team.

Forfeited Turns do not count towards the Wait Rules and do not cancel their effect. If a player is waiting for two turns or four hours to pass before they can take another turn, this does not include the Forfeited Turn.

Downloading the Save File

Once you have made a post in the Chain Game Round Thread to state that you are taking a turn, download the Save File that has been linked in the post of the last valid turn. This is likely to be the latest post in the Round Thread at the time of you making your post.

The downloaded Save File should then stored in the 'GTA Vice City User Files' folder for the game to be able to locate the file ready for loading. This folder is usually found in 'C:\Users\Username\Documents\GTA Vice City User Files' but may differ on different Operating Systems.

If you feel that the link in the post is from a suspicious source, then you should not follow the link to the website linked and instead report this to a member of the Chain Game Staff who will investigate the matter further.

Making Progress

During your turn, there are many ways that you will be able to make progress towards the Chain Game Goal of 100% Completion of Grand Theft Auto Vice City. You are allowed to complete up to one Story or Payphone Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish. The Time Limit to complete your Chain Game Turn is Three Hours, which is plenty of time to sit back, relax and have some fun!

This section covers the most important information that you should keep in mind when taking your turn, and detailed information on what can and can't be done in the duration of your turn. It's strongly recommended that you read and understand this section fully before you take your turn so that you do not risk your turn being invalid.

Important Information
No Busts or Wastes: You are not allowed to get Busted or Wasted during the completion of your Chain Game Turn. Save Files that have been saved with a positive Busted or Wasted Statistic will not be accepted and the offending turn will be made invalid.

No Failure: You are not allowed to fail a Mission, Rampage or Side Mission during the completion of your Chain Game Turn. This specifically refers to all Named Story and Payphone Missions, Asset Missions, Chopper Checkpoints, Off Road Challenges, Races, Rampages, Stadium Missions, Top Fun Missions, Vehicle Missions and Vice Street Races. If a player fails any of these as a result of their own bad luck or through being Wasted or getting Busted, then they must either restart or forfeit their turn.

If you are collecting a Special Vehicle that requires a Mission Failure, then you will be allowed to fail the mission, but it must be mentioned in your turn post that you collected the Special Vehicle. Attempting to collect a Special Vehicle and being unsuccessful, but still failing the mission the Special Vehicle is from, is not allowed.

Mission Failure will be accepted only if you are collecting a Special Vehicle or you have been given permission by the Chain Game Chief to upload your Save File. Any other turn that is found to have a Failure Statistic will be declared invalid.

No Cheats or Modifications: You are not allowed to use any Cheats, Trainers, Modifications or CLEO Scripts during the completion of your Chain Game Turn. It is strongly recommended that you only participate in the Chain Game on a completely unmodified installation of Grand Theft Auto Vice City, even if you have disabled Modifications or CLEO Scripts from running during your turn.

We do not expect the players of the Chain Game to have to resort to the use of Cheats in order to complete Missions or Side Missions, and do not expect players to use Cheats as part of having fun during their turn. Some Cheats and Modifications have been known to have a long lasting affect on Save Files and we do wish to spoil the fun of the Chain Game for the players by having Save Files that are not working as they are intended to.

Any turn that is found to be using Cheats or Modifications will be declared invalid and any player found repeatedly breaking this rule face further disciplinary action.

Exceptions to the No Modifications Rule: It has been recognised by the Chain Game Staff that there have been modifications created for the game that are not Gameplay Altering but instead work to patch many of the issues that the older Grand Theft Auto games share due to the advancements in hardware, and therefore do not cause any issues with Save Files.

We have revised our stance on Modifications to allow for the use of any modifications listed below by Chain Game Players for use in all Chain Game Turns as we recognise that they have been created with the purpose to address many of the issues that these games have, and do not cause any issues with Save Files that would go against the No Modifications Rule.

Acceptable Modifications List:

We are open to allowing other Modifications that are of a similar nature, providing as an unofficial patch, on a case by case basis. Any player that wants to use a Modification that has not been listed, but is proven not to damage Save Files and has the intended purpose of patching issues with the game or providing additional hardware functionality, such as Controller Support, is welcome to contact the Chain Game Staff for direct permission to use this in their turns. Permission must be granted before you are able to use a Modification in your turn. If you do not have permission and are found to be using that Modification, it will fall under the No Modifications Rule and you will face disciplinary action.

On Mission Flag Manipulation: You are not allowed to use any form of On Mission Flag Manipulation during your Chain Game Turn. This specfically refers to purposely altering the On Mission Flag, the use of Script Stack Underflow (SSU) and the use of any form of Mission Duplication.

If you are collecting a Special Vehicle that requires the use of On Mission Flag Manipulation, then a failure is permitted only if the vehicle is successfully obtained in your turn and there are not any additional undesirable side effects. An "undesirable side effect" is one that would have a permanent affect on the Save File following execution of On Mission Flag Manipulation, such as permanently enabling a radar marker,

The Replay Feature: You are not allowed to use the Replay Feature during an active Mission or non-stackable Side Mission during the completion of your Chain Game Turn. This specifically refers to both Storyline Missions given by contacts such as "The Party" and non-stackable Side Missions such as "Paramedic", Rampages and "RC Bandit Race". Replay exploits have been known to instantly pass missions and cause artificial scores and times which are both against the Chain Game Rules and could be exploited as a method of "unfair play" by players wishing to become Record Holders.

Outside of Missions and non-stackable Side Missions, including while searching for Hidden Packages or completing Unique Stunt Jumps, any player is free to use the Replay Feature for any purpose as long as the feature is not exploited in a way that may directly affect the Save File or any factor of Grand Theft Auto Vice City's Completion Requirements and Percentage.

Missions
The One Named Mission Rule: You are only allowed to complete One Named Mission during the completion of your Chain Game Turn, or you are free not to complete any if you decide that you do not want to. A 'Named Mission' is any Story or Payphone Mission that changes the Save File Name when you save at a Safehouse.

Examples of Named Missions include "The Party", "Waste The Wife" and "Cap the Collector".

Exception to the One Named Mission Rule: In Grand Theft Auto Vice City, "An Old Friend" is considered to be a Cutscene Mission, given that in none of these the player is required to complete any gameplay task and instead just watch through the cutscene given to the player upon entry of the Mission Marker.

This mission is therefore an exception of the One Named Mission Rule in the Chain Game and you are able to complete this in addition to up to one other Story or Payphone Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

Mission Scores and Times: There are several missions in Grand Theft Auto Vice City that will store the scores or times that you have achieved in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. Players who complete any of the following missions must note down the score or time they received in their Chain Game Turn Post:

  • Alloy Wheels of Steel - Mention the Race Time
  • The Driver - Mention the Race Time
  • The Shootist - Mention the Score and Hit Rate Percentage
  • Shooting Range - Mention the Score and Hit Rate Percentage

If you do not remember what score or time you achieved, you can check this in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu.

Suggested Order
It is suggested that all Chain Game Players take note of the following suggestions of the order that missions should be completed in each Chain Game Round. It is ultimately up to the player whether or not they follow this advice, it is their choice entirely what missions they complete during their turns, but there may be consequential behaviour in game such as increased Gang Hostility or Locked Rewards that may occur and be less beneficial to the other players and the round Save File as a whole:

Haitian Gang Hostility: After the completion of "Trojan Voodoo" in Grand Theft Auto Vice City, the Haitians will become hostile and attack the player on sight. This can make it harder to complete some Missions and Side Missions in the game that take place in Little Haiti on the Mainland Island where the gang activity is so hostile that the player may be unable to visit without dying or losing health quickly. In particular, this concerns Side Missions such as Paramedic where the player must drive across the entire island, and therefore potentially pass through hostile gang areas.

It is strongly advised that "Trojan Voodoo" is not completed by the Chain Game Players until as late as possible in the game so that any other Missions or Side Missions available that may take place in, or around, Little Haiti are not too difficult to complete.

Havana Outfit Glitch: After the completion of "Two Bit Hit", the Havana Outfit Pickup that spawns in Little Havana may spawn in a misplaced location and unable to be picked up by the player if a specific order of missions has not been completed.

It is suggested that players try and avoid this glitch when taking turns so that the outfit does not become locked from players using the save. To prevent the Havana Outfit Glitch from occurring, the player must complete "Cop Land", "No Escape" and "The Job" before completing "Two Bit Hit", and the Havana Outfit should then appear in the correct location and all players will be able to make use of the outfit and pick it up in their turns.

Side Missions
Rampages: You may complete as many Rampages as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. There are Thirty Five Rampages in Vice City and their locations can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts. You can complete Rampages either on their own in a turn, or in combination with One Named Mission and/or as many Side Missions as you choose.

Players who complete Rampages must note down which they have completed by providing the Rampage Title as displayed on screen or in the Chain Game Checklist, or by providing a short description of the pickup location and what weapon was used to complete the Rampage in their Chain Game Turn Post. If you have completed all Rampages from a particular island or all remaining Rampages in the game, then you do not need to mention each individual Rampage, as long as it is clear which you have completed.

Rampage Failures are not allowed in the Chain Game. If a player fails a Rampage as a result of their own bad luck or through being Wasted or getting Busted, then they must either restart or forfeit their turn.

Vehicle Missions: You may complete as many Vehicle Missions as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. Vehicle Missions refer to the Side Missions that can be activated and completed by the player while in a specific vehicle. The following is a list of Vehicle Missions in Grand Theft Auto Vice City:

  • Paramedic
  • Pizza Boy
  • Vigilante
  • Firefighter
  • Taxi Driver

Players who complete these missions must note down important information about their completion in their Chain Game Turn Posts. Specifically, for Vigilante and Firefighter the player should note down how many Criminals or Fires they have completed and for Taxi Driver the player should note down how many fares they have completed.

Level 12 Paramedic, Level 10 Pizza Boy, Level 12 Vigilante, Level 12 Firefighter, and 100 Taxi Fares must be completed to achieve 100% Completion in Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Further help towards completing these can be found  online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Collectibles, Unique Jumps and Robberies: You may collect as many Hidden Packages, complete as many of the Unique Jumps and complete as many Robberies as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. These can be completed either on their own in a turn, or in combination with One Named Mission and/or as many Side Missions as you choose. In total there are 100 Hidden Packages, 36 Unique Jumps and 15 Robberies to complete for 100% Completion and information on their locations can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Players who collect Hidden Packages, complete Unique Jumps or complete Robberies must note down how many packages or jumps they have completed and their locations in their Chain Game Turn Post. If you have collected the packages, completed the jumps, or completed the robberies in groups, such as all of the packages on one island, you will be able to just mention that without specifying the locations of each individual package as long as it is clear from your post what you mean. It's important that these are mentioned clearly so we do not result in a situation where at the end of the round there are missing Hidden Packages, Unique Jumps or Robberies which are in locations not known to any player.

Sunshine Autos Import/Export: You may deliver as many vehicles and complete as many of the four available lists to the Sunshine Autos Import/Export Garage during your Chain Game Turn. These can be completed either on their own in a turn, or in combination with One Named Mission and/or as many Side Missions as you choose.

Players who deliver vehicles as part of participation in Import/Export must note down the vehicles that they have collected in their Chain Game Turn Posts. You can also write down the vehicles that are remaining if you completed most of the list instead of having to individually list the vehicles you have collected, and if you have collected all of the vehicles from a list then you do not have to mention each vehicle individually but just that you have done the specified list of vehicles required.

Side Mission Regulations
The GTA Vice City Chain Game includes several Side Mission Regulations which are in place to prevent players from being able to take turns that have excessive completion of the game. The Chain Game is a collaborative effort to complete Grand Theft Auto Vice City to 100% Completion and allowing players to be able to complete such large percentages of the game themselves would be unfair and make the game less about working together as a team.

The Side Missions that have regulations are divided into categories. You are allowed to complete up to one Side Mission from each of the categories in a Chain Game Turn. The Side Missions that have been completed previously can also be re-accepted and do not count towards the Side Mission Regulations rule, meaning that you may complete two missions from a given category as long as one of them have already been completed earlier in the game.

Asset Missions: You may complete up to one Asset Mission during your Chain Game Turn. There are 3 Asset Missions that can be attempted at the available businesses across Vice City:

  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • Distribution
  • Strip Dance

The locations for each of these missions as well as additional help can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Players who complete Checkpoint Charlie must note down the time that they achieved and players who complete Distribution must note down how many sales they completed in their Chain Game Turn Post. This time can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete one Asset Mission in a standalone turn, or in combination with up to One Named Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the other categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

Checkpoint Charlie can be re-accepted at any time by players who wish to improve the Record Time. Replaying Checkpoint Charlie to improve the Record Time does not count towards the Side Mission Regulations Rule and you may complete it in addition to another incomplete Asset Mission if you wish.

Chopper Checkpoint Missions: You may complete up to one Chopper Checkpoint mission during your Chain Game Turn. There are 4 Chopper Checkpoint missions found across Vice City:

  • Vice Point Chopper Checkpoint
  • Ocean Beach Chopper Checkpoint
  • Downtown Chopper Checkpoint
  • Little Haiti Chopper Checkpoint

The locations for each of these missions as well as additional help can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Players who complete any of the Chopper Checkpoint Missions must note down the time that they achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post. This time can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete one Chopper Checkpoint Mission in a standalone turn, or in combination with up to One Named Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the other categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

Chopper Checkpoint Missions can be re-accepted at any time by players who wish to improve the Record Times. Replaying a Chopper Checkpoint mission to improve the Record Time does not count towards the Side Mission Regulations Rule and you may complete it in addition to another incomplete Chopper Checkpoint mission, or as many already completed Chopper Checkpoint Missions, as you wish.

Off Road Challenges: You may complete up to one Off Road Challenge during your Chain Game Turn. There are 4 Off Road Challenges found across Vice City:

  • Cone Crazy
  • PCJ Playground
  • Trial By Dirt
  • Test Track

The locations for each of these challenges as well as additional help can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Players who complete any of the Off Road Challenges must note down the time that they achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post. This time can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete one Off Road Challenge in a standalone turn, or in combination with up to One Named Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the other categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

Off Road Challenges can be re-accepted at any time by players who wish to improve the Record Times. Replaying an Off Road Challenge to improve the Record Time does not count towards the Side Mission Regulations Rule and you may complete it in addition to another incomplete Off Road Challenge, or as many already completed Off Road Challenges, as you wish.

Stadium Missions: You may complete up to one Stadium Mission during your Chain Game Turn. There are 3 Stadium Missions that can be participated in at the Hyman Memorial Stadium in Downtown:

  • Bloodring
  • Dirtring
  • Hotring

There will only be one event held at the Stadium each day and the doors will only open between 20:00 and 00:00. You can see which event is available to participate in each day by looking at the Billboard in front of the Stadium.

Players who complete any of the Stadium Missions must note down the time or score that they achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post. This information can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete one Stadium Mission in a standalone turn, or in combination with up to One Named Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the other categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

Stadium Missions can be re-accepted at any time by players who wish to improve the Record Times. Replaying a Stadium Mission to improve the Record Time does not count towards the Side Mission Regulations Rule and you may complete it in addition to another incomplete Stadium Mission, or as many already completed Stadium Missions, as you wish.

Top Fun Missions: You may complete up to one Top Fun Mission during your Chain Game Turn. There are 3 Stadium Missions that can be found at the Top Fun Vans parked across Vice City:

  • RC Bandit Race
  • RC Baron Race
  • RC Raider Pickup

The locations for each of these missions as well as additional help can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Players who complete any of the Top Fun Missions must note down the score that they achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post. This score can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete one Top Fun Mission in a standalone turn, or in combination with up to One Named Mission, up to one Side Mission from each of the other categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

Top Fun Missions can be re-accepted at any time by players who wish to improve the Record Scores. Replaying a Top Fun Mission to improve the Record Score does not count towards the Side Mission Regulations Rule and you may complete it in addition to another incomplete Top Fun Mission, or as many already completed Top Fun Missions, as you wish.

Vice Street Races: You may complete up to one Vice Street Race during your Chain Game Turn. There are 6 Vice Street Races that can be participated in by locating them on the map behind Sunshine Autos:

  • Terminal Velocity
  • Ocean Drive
  • Border Run
  • Capital Cruise
  • Tour!
  • VC Endurance

The locations for each of these challenges as well as additional help can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Players who complete any of the Vice Street Races must note down the time that they achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post. This time can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete one Vice Street Race in a standalone turn, or in combination with up to Vice Street Races, up to one Side Mission from each of the other categories in the 'Side Mission Regulations' section, and as many other Side Missions as you wish.

Replaying a Vice Street Race to improve the Record Time does not count towards the Side Mission Regulations Rule and you may complete it in addition to another incomplete Vice Street Race, or as many already completed Vice Street Races, as you wish.

Gameplay Methods
There are no restrictions on how you choose to play the game or of any shortcuts you may choose to take during your turn, as long as they do not violate the Chain Game Rules. All players are free to purchase weapons, food, safehouses, businesses, respray vehicles, install car bombs and have some fun at their own leisure throughout the duration of their turn. Mission Strategy is completely up to the player and with multiple ways to complete the missions of Grand Theft Auto Vice City, it is likely that each player is likely going to have their own preferred way of completed some of the missions or activities in the game.

It is not forbidden in the Chain Game to use Island Travel exploits or glitches in order to reach either Starfish Island or Vice City Mainland before they are unlocked, as long as the methods that you choose do not use Cheats or Modifications which are against the Chain Game Rules.

The player is allowed to use the services of Vice City's Prostitutes to receive a Health Boost. You may wish to mention that you have made the most of their abilities in your Chain Game Turn Post following the turns completion, although this is not necessary and is up to the player whether or not it is included.

If you have a game crash problem on your system or you are uncertain of your success, it is also advised that you save multiple times when completing a turn, so you won't be forced to lose significant progress as a result of failing a mission, getting busted or getting wasted.

Save and Upload

Saving the Game: Once you have made progress towards the Chain Game's Goal of 100% Completion, complete your turn by saving the game at a Safehouse.

It is strongly recommended that you choose to save the game on an island close to available missions for the convenience of the following player, and also on an island that is accessible at that point in the game so inexperienced players do not have trouble trying to navigate their way back to the island the available missions are on.

You should also try and ensure that you have a good amount of Armor when saving, which can be filled before you save by finding an Armor Pickup. This can become a simpler task later in the game once the necessary Side Missions are completed, as Armor Pickups will spawn at some Safehouses across Vice City.

Uploading the Save File: Upload your completed Chain Game Save File for sharing in your completed post. The preferred upload service for use in the Chain Game is GTASnP.com created and developed by GTAForums Member Samutz. This service allows players to easily download the Chain Game Saves into the slot of their choice and shows information about the Save File including an automatically updated 100% Checklist. However, players are free to choose another File Sharing Service of their choice as long as it grants free download access without the need for registration.

If you are unable to access GTASnP.com, it is recommended that you upload your Save File to either Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive.

Edit Your Post

When you've uploaded your Save File, press the 'Edit' Button in the lower right corner of the post and use the Chain Game Posting Format, which can be copied directly from the 'Chain Game' section of the GTASnP.com Page of your Save File. You can alter this format to include colors or fonts of your choice, but all posts are required to have full details of all you have completed, the overall completion percentage and a link to the Save File.

Late Edit: If you have previously completed a Chain Game Turn and wish to include additional information about your turn at a later time, you will need to specify when your turn was originally completed to prevent the turn being marked as invalid.

When making a Late Edit to your Chain Game Turn Post, be sure to add a 'Original Edit Time' field to the bottom of the Posting Format and specify when the turn was originally finished. It is important that you mention the Time Zone of the time you posted too, so that players in other time zones do not get confused and misinterpret how long it took you to complete your turn.

GTAForums Downtime: If GTAForums is unavailable when you are ready to post your turn, it is advised where possible that you wait for the website to return and edit your post later than you had initially planned. If you are unsure that you will be around when the website returns, or the website is still unavailable when three hours have passed since calling your turn, it is recommended that you take a screenshot of the website and attempt to contact a member of Chain Game Staff on the Discord Server, Steam Group or Twitter Page to inform them of the situation and provide a Save File for them to include in your post when the website returns. You should also ensure that you stick to the turn time limit regardless of the status of GTAForums, and make your final save before three hours has passed. Once the website returns there will be a "grace period" where you will be given time to post your turn by the Chain Game Staff. Should you fail to post your turn within this time you will be considered to have failed to meet the turn time limit and your turn will be invalidated.

If there is a planned period of maintenance for GTAForums, the Chain Game Staff may temporarily suspend the current Chain Game Round. During this period, no players are allowed to take a turn and must wait until a member of Chain Game Staff announces that play can continue before calling a turn.

Violation of the Chain Game Rules

The Chain Game Rules are designed to keep the game played fairly, so that all players are having an enjoyable experience and the game is making progress. It is expected that all Chain Game Players take the time to fully understand the rules and ensure that they do not violate them during their Chain Game Turns and therefore not cause any disruption or upset amongst players.

Violations of the Chain Game Rules are treated seriously and will be dealt with appropriately by the Chain Game Staff. Chain Game Turns that violate any of the Chain Game Rules will be declared invalid and the progress made in that turn, as well as that of any following turns, will be discarded.

We recognise that players can make honest mistakes and accidentally violate Chain Game Rules and will take this into consideration. Depending on the severity of the rules broken, if it is your first time not following the Chain Game Rules your turn may not be declared invalid and in such cases the game will continue as normal.

Players that have been repeatedly broken Chain Game Rules, spam post in the Chain Game Topics, do not show respect for other Chain Game Members and choose to ignore warnings given to them by the Chain Game Staff will face temporary or permanent exclusions from the Chain Game. During the period of a Chain Game Ban, the offending player will not be allowed to participate in any Chain Game Round and all posts that they choose to make in Round Topics will be ignored, declared invalid and later removed. Persistent posting during the period of a Chain Game Ban with the intent to cause disorder in the Chain Game may be dealt externally by GTAForums under the website's Rules and Policies.

Players that witness violations of Chain Game Rules should bring them to the immediate attention of a Chain Game Staff Member. Noticing an issue early will help to prevent the loss of a great amount of progress if the issue is not noticed until much later in the game.

The Starter Save

To celebrate the GTA Vice City Chain Game reaching Round 50, a special starter save has been produced that features 50 Generated Vehicles across Vice City. These are modified vehicle spawn points where the vehicle model, color and location have been changed to be unique from their original counterparts in a typical GTA Vice City save file.

This is the first ever Generated Vehicle Round for the GTA Vice City Chain Game, with modified vehicle spawns only previously making a brief appearance in Round 10. Generated Vehicle Rounds have become a popular aspect of the Grand Theft Auto III Chain Game, first appearing in June 2012 and featured as a part of 13 rounds to date.

For the first time ever, I was not responsible for producing this special starter save. Parik and thehambone were offered the opportunity to put together the starter save for this round in April 2019 and have both shown a great level of commitment in completing this task. After several discussions about the process for creating special saves, a tool was created by thehambone that has allowed us to merge together different modified save files from multiple creators without any single person knowing all modified vehicle spawns that appear across the merged save files.

This means that Parik has been able to create a save file with 24 Generated Vehicles, thehambone has been able to create a save file with 24 Generated Vehicles, SorveteQuente has been able to create a save file with his Personal Vehicle, I have been able to create a save file with my Personal Vehicle, and then all 4 save files have been merged together so that we all only know the placements of the vehicles we've placed and not the vehicles other people have been responsible for.

As a result, for the first time in Chain Game History, no one is excluded from being able to participate in Vehicle Hunt. Parik and thehambone will be able to search for the 26 Generated Vehicles present in the save file that they didn't place, and SorveteQuente and I will be able to search for the 49 Generated Vehicles we didn't place. And yes, this all also means that for the first time since I became Chain Game Chief in October 2013, I am now able to participate in Vehicle Hunt! 690621017336316074.png

A huge thanks to both Parik and thehambone for leading the development of the save file for this round. They both continue to be a huge asset to the Chain Game, and I'm glad to have them as both a part of the community and now also a part of the Staff Team.

Generated Vehicles

The starter save has been modified to spawn 50 Generated Vehicles across Vice City in locations where there would not usually be a vehicle spawn. Included in these vehicles may be cars required for Import/Export, vehicles spawning on islands that they wouldn’t usually be available, and vehicles that are placed just for fun!

The following list is a summary of the additions you can expect to find when you play:

  • Added 18 land vehicles on Ocean Beach!
  • Added 1 land vehicle on Prawn Island!
  • Added 3 land vehicles on Starfish Island!
  • Added 15 land vehicles on Mainland!
  • Added 4 boats across Vice City!
  • Added 5 aircraft across Vice City!
  • Added 4 Personal Vehicles, one for each member of Chain Game Staff, in Vice City. These will be alarmed!

These 50 vehicles will be included in a classic Chain Game Minigame called “Vehicle Hunt” where it is down to the players of this round to find the vehicles across Vice City. All locations of the Generated Vehicles will be kept “classified” at the start of the round and will not be revealed until a player has found them!

Players may choose to participate in Vehicle Hunt during their turns by searching for any of the 50 Generated Vehicles and will be rewarded with a cookie if they successfully find a vehicle and mention it in their turn notes, but note that spoiler tags must be used to conceal your findings when noting vehicle finds in your edited turn post. There are also opportunities to win bonus cookies. An additional cookie will be awarded if a player correctly identifies a Personal Vehicle’s owner, and another will be awarded if a vehicle is set to spawn in a permanent color and the player identifies this and names the color in their turn notes.

You may find the following revised posting format useful when completing your turn that has resulted in vehicle finds:

[b]Mission:[/b]
[b]Link:[/b]
[b]Completion:[/b]
[b]Notes:[/b]
[b]Generated Vehicles:[/b]
[spoiler] << Write your findings here! >> [/spoiler]

Generated Content Rules
“Vehicle Hunt” is played in Generated Vehicle Rounds as a fun way of experiencing the features of the modified starter save. All players who choose to participate in the round and search for vehicles in their turn must follow the following rules, which are designed to ensure that the game is kept fair and that all players have an enjoyable experience with the starter save additions.

  • You may use your turn to search for any of the 50 Generated Vehicles in the Save File. There is no limit to how many you can find in total during the round but we ask that you are considerate to other players and give everyone a chance to play.
  • Spoiler Tags must be used to conceal your findings as per Chain Game tradition. You will be asked to edit your post until it is in the required format if you do not submit a turn where this is the case. The idea behind using Spoiler Tags is so that anyone who wishes to download and play the Starter Save themselves wanting to find all 50 vehicles as a challenge do not have the locations of any spoiled to them.
  • You are not allowed to cheat during Vehicle Hunt by using tools, trainers and other illegal methods to locate the vehicles that have been added to the save file. This will ruin the fun for both yourself and all other players in the round. If you choose to use save editing to find the location of the vehicles before they are found in the round, you must forfeit your ability to take part in Vehicle Hunt for that round and not share the information of the vehicles to any other player.

Anyone who is caught cheating in a Generated Vehicle Round or is involved in assisting another person to cheat will be permanently banned from participating in future rounds with modified Save Files and will receive an additional suspension from participation in the Chain Game and all discussion threads, servers and groups such as the Chain Game Lounge and Chain Game Discord Server.

Further Information

  • The Round 50 Save File includes 50 Generated Vehicles. 9 vehicles are brand new spawns, 3 vehicles replace broken spawns in the original game that would not normally be available to the player on a regular save file, and 38 vehicles replace parked vehicle spawns in the original game. We have tried to select vehicles to move that are not often used or will be noticeable in game, and make the choice as widespread as we can and not all from the same location.
  • The vehicle spawns in Ocean Beach and Prawn Island, as well as 3 Boats, 1 Aircraft and 1 Personal Vehicle were added and verified by Parik. Therefore, Parik knows the locations of these 24 vehicles and is not allowed to reveal any of their locations, use them as 'findings' in his turns, and may not use them for beneficial purposes such as delivering them to Import/Export Garages until they have been formally revealed in the round by another player as a find. However, Parik may participate in Vehicle Hunt for the other 26 Generated Vehicles.
  • The vehicle spawns in Starfish Island and Mainland, as well as 1 Boat, 4 Aircraft and 1 Personal Vehicle were added and verified by thehambone. Therefore, thehambone knows the locations of these 24 vehicles and is not allowed to reveal any of their locations, use them as 'findings' in his turns, and may not use them for beneficial purposes such as delivering them to Import/Export Garages until they have been formally revealed in the round by another player as a find. However, thehambone may participate in Vehicle Hunt for the other 26 Generated Vehicles.
  • 2 Personal Vehicles were individually added by GTAKid667 and SorveteQuente. Therefore, they each know the locations of their Personal Vehicle and are not allowed to reveal the location, use the vehicle as a 'finding' in turns, and may not use their vehicle for beneficial purposes such as delivering them to Import/Export Garages until they have been formally revealed in the round by another player as a find. However, they may both participate in Vehicle Hunt for the other 49 Generated Vehicles.

It is strongly recommended that you choose to save the game on an island close to available missions for the convenience of the following player, and also on an island that is accessible at that point in the game so inexperienced players do not have trouble trying to navigate their way back to the island the available missions are on.
