UNDISCOVERED VC Easter Egg in the Year 2020?!

Recommended Posts

Lit Logistics

Or perhaps a less discussed Easter Egg of GTA: Vice City.

It involves Shady Acres, yes Avery Carrington's real estate complex.

Shady Acres can be seen referenced in lots of TV and Movies before and after GTA: Vice City, however, I've now realized that Shady Acres is a reference to the 1994 film, 'Ace Ventura.'

Go ahead, go back and watch it.

1). Ace Ventura takes place in Miami, FL. Just like VC.

2). Ace has swooped hair, just like Tommy, and wears an array of of Hawaiian-style and colorful shirts.

3). The mental institution in the film is called, 'Shady Acres.'

Where did this name come from?

https://uproxx.com/filmdrunk/15-facts-might-know-ace-ventura-pet-detective-20th-anniversary/

"Shady Acres Mental Hospital was named after the director. The mental hospital where Ventura goes undercover was named Shady Acres as a play on the name of director Tom Shadyac."

So, in the year 2000, after Ace Ventura, 'Shady Acres Entertainment' was formed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shady_Acres_Entertainment

"Shady Acres signed a production deal with Universal to produce films while its lone television series was co-produced by Touchstone Television (now ABC Studios)."

Pretty much all Shady Acres references came close to or after Ace Ventura.

I see Shady Acres in GTA Vice City as a direct callback to Ace Ventura. From the location (Miami), the hair, the name (Shady Acres - reference to the director of the film), Tommy's main wardrobe, and perhaps other details and synchronicities that we may have missed. 😎👍

Americana

We thought Scarface influenced Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but it was Ace Ventura all along.

"Ace has swooped hair, just like Tommy, and wears an array of of Hawaiian-style and colorful shirts. " as did a presumable majority of people in Miami in the 80s?

Good eye and research I'm surprised even after years we are still finding things like this. I always thought the advert in the radio of shady acres felt like a retirement home/ hospital for old folk.  being honest I've seen snippets of Ace Ventura, but knowing that next time I'm gonna take more notice.

LOL exactly.

The main point of reference is just the Shady Acres history, a classic Easter egg/cameo name used in film and television since Ace Ventura, named after the director. It's just coincidence that everything else can be linked to Ace Ventura as well, such as location, style, etc.
