[WIP] Real Wild West game play on GTA V

This is a partial conversion with a desert and western folk. Missions are developing still in need of Models.

 

Here is a test showing cowboys and Indians shooting it out.

 

This shows the Horse and Rider animations like walk, trot, gallop and the slowing from gallop to trot and trot to walk.

 

Here's the Cast of characters and some weapons testing.

 

 

I need a stagecoach, saddle with scabbord, a better Bow. A long bow.

Please help me get this to a release version.

Many advances last night.

 

Indian valley mission is completed and ready to be tuned up with animation blending.

 

Script management to assure best performance improved: now mission scripts running will stop other mission scripts to allow better performance.

 

The Lighthouse mission is closer but in need of work over, there are many Mexican banditos with bandeleros,gunbelts, sombrarros, I need to assure better hospital resets. Same with Claim jumper mission.

 

Cattle, chickens and animals roaming in various areas is close to being completed.

 

The Map needs touching up, some models have collision issues and may be removed. A few plants need better placement. Water and ambient area sounds need work, for there is wave sounds under the desert. I need to make paths for navigation of peds.

 

Tutorials for how to access and use weapons and horse still need to be written.

There are many new features/functions to learn, such as:

 

Quick draw kill.

 

Lasso drag behind horse.

 

Bull whipping peds.

 

Shooting rifle from horse.

 

Shooting pistol from horse.

 

Using bow and collecting shot arrow.

 

Using spear and collecting thrown spear.

 

There is much to be done still but progress is mostly some more every day.

 

 

Sure hope to see some Western models soon emerging.

Weapons so far:

Tamohawk,

Bow that shoots arrows,

Spear to throw these are each retrievable, so can be pulled from victim they got stuck in.

 

Colt45 in back waist band for fast action shooting.

 

Smith and Wesson pistol in a Western style side holster that is pulled out in a couple of ways: draw from holster to aim And/or quick draw where pistol is pulled twirled and shot then returned to holster.

 

Winchester 44 with a simulated lever action feel and 6 bullets that get pulled from waist belt and loaded one at a time( player health and armour are added during reloading so the player doesn't die).

 

I will be testing today and might get a video up later.

Some advancements today:

 

Model editd:

New Mexican Banditos with double bandeleros and holsters, new Indian Squaw so now there's two different models. I even used "a_f_y_indian_01" lol.

 

Scripting:

Worked on tamohawk to improve the belt placement and animations some. Also the button configuration conflicted with backup gun in back waist. Now both work again.

 

Edited Spear back location for when on horse (it was sticking inside Rider now it lays across back like when not on horse). 

 

Edited clothing menu to correct issue of war paint on player face. I will see about rigging an Indian main ped later, Marston's face doesn't fit the beard I used.

 

Spent time trying to get a short video of: weapons in use and to show some of the peds. I'll try to update tomorrow.

Worked more on tomahawk anims. I may change targeting system.

Mn8r01 is helping with map edits to remove ocean under map.

 

Recent feature to allow script management needs a bit of working on but has helped. All code is in . Lua format do there are some disadvantages, plus I'm not very good yet. My code is probably messy but functions mostly stable.

 

May have found someone to make the long bows and arrow I wanted. Fingers crossed on that one.

 

Good progress today 👍.

Got caught all day trying to figure out why I can't change false to true in a file with Lua.

I Tried

string.gsub()

 

but it kept writing at end of line not replacing.

 

So if anyone knows how I can read file to table and replace specified line or word in line I'd be grateful.

 

On another note MN8R01 fixed the water issues so the desert doesn't have water sounds. 

 

There's a thought, does anyone know how to assign ambient zone to custom areas? That'd be great too.

 

Well we're plugging along.

 

Please comment so more people may come check what's going on and bring a bit of help our way.

Been struggling with trying to replace false with true in Lua but string.gsub() keeps writing to the end of line.

ie: Winchester = falseWinchester = true

 

Also please comment or thumbs up first post with videos to help more people to check in with development; and maybe offer help with Lua, modeling, mapping.

 

There's much to do before first test release. A lot for one guy fumbling along as I have.

 

I love modding and hope the community helps me to improve and learn more efficient mods.

Thanks, it's getting close to first release. Keep an eye on it. I may have someone to make new bow and better arrows.

No luck figuring out how to append a word line in Lua. Been ocd 😂 I'll get back to edits on mod later, it's hard when I get something stuck in my head.

Did some map edits and made ambush in canyon pass. Miner shoots and causes rock slide while attacking player.

 

Need to fix player dying when on horse.

 

Still no luck with gsub.

There aren't too many people who use the LUA script hook for GTA V anymore. jedijosh hasn't done any LUA coding for GTA V that I'm aware of either.

 

May I ask what this LUA script is for? Why are you using gsub to replace false to true? Are you writing this script or editing someone else's script? Could you rewrite this script in a more common language/script hook, such as C#/SHVDN?

The "open source" is why I use Lua.

I am able to do many things with Lua. 

I am writing the script.

There are several scripts like one to handle the bow and arrow weapon as seen in video above. Everything in those videos I wrote in Lua format for open source. The animations, blending anims, in many of my scripts like:

hospital resets, riding horse, loading unloading ipl for map, creating file to read from for progressive gameplay.

 

I have been able to do many things with Lua which can easily be seen and perhaps comprehended by budding modders. Dll, asi... are not open to learn from as easily.

 

I am amazed at what I can do with Lua, so here I sit on one area I am stumpped on.

 

I want to be able to append false for true so when a weapon is accessible I can change take to true so next time game starts new weapon is accessible.

C#/VB.NET scripts (using ScriptHookVDotNet) can be easily made open-source, just like LUA. Instead of compiling the C#/VB project to .dll, just provide the .cs/.vb file. ScriptHookVDotNet automatically compiles .cs/.vb files in the scripts folder.

So here's what I'm doing, I created a file in the addins location named:

Desrt_intro_cleared.N8G 

 

In that file are for now(testing) :

Desrt_intro_cleared = false

Winchester_access = false

 

to edit the file I'm using:

if(get_key_pressed(Keys.K) then

Local savepath = "".."scripts/addins/";

local s = "";

local p = "";

local file = io.open(savepath .. "Dsrt_Intro_cleared.N8G, "a+");

 

s = string.gsub("Winchester_cleared = true","false","true");

end

 

that writes at end of line? Why? Also the first param of gsub is supposed to be string to find, but if I search for Winchester_access = false it writes

Winchester_access = falseWinchester_access = false

 

so I changed the string to Winchester_access = true and it writes

Winchester_access = falseWinchester_access = true.

 

There's the code to copy and paste:

I didn't include the creating of file .N8G as I'm on my phone not pc.simply create a text file rename it and insert :

 

Desrt_intro_cleared = false

Winchester_access = false

false

 

 

To test.

I hope to get help with this.

MN8R01 did a great job removing the water under desert. Now there is just wind sounds.

A town formerly under water and areas where waves showed above the desert are no more!

Great fix.

Plus she has cows, chickens, cats and dogs spawning in areas as ambience near two of the town's and herds that cross the roads.

 

This will be great for lassoing and branding cattle; which is a feature I am still working on.

 

I'll turn to writing a table to update progress instead of wasting more time on gsub()

 

I get ocd when a function is not functional.
