One on One Deathmatch (Gen Chat)

Today I had a unqiue experience after being challenged to a deathmatch in freemode. Please let me know if you've heard of anything like this or would like to share your own tips or stories based on your play. Thank you

I was invited to a one on one deathmatch today after killing another player with a Lazer I stole from the Fort.. He was over Vespucci Beach in another Lazer or maybe Hydra..im not sure. After killing him for the first time, an invite hit my phone, I glanced down and saw his icon was already a Jet. So I accepted the match. He got the first kill and I respawned in the Lazer I had stolen! After I killed him he also respawned in his Jet.. Back and forth we died and kept spawning in Jets..

I won the deathmatch a few minutes later, he respawned, again.. Crashed into a building and left the session.

I'd like to know how or why we kept respawning in jets.. Does anyone know?

If this was in free mode then this has to be a new addition that flew under everyone's radar, mostly because 1v1 deathmatches in free roam is a open invite for everyone else in the session to grief both players fighting each other, as the players can't see the rest of the session on their minimap.

Its actually a feature that has been around since release. It was implemented for "balancing reasons". Afaik, it only does this with the oldest weaponised vehicles in the game, such as the Lazer, Rhino, Buzzard, etc.

Well I got another random to join me for a deathmatch in jets.. I even gave him my personal Hydra and I used my Pegasus one..worked like a charm. Looking forward to testing what other vehicles this works with.

I wonder where the cut off is for old school weaponized vehicles might be..

Strange.

But one thing I witnessed:

Til most recently I always assumed that 2 players doing a 1 vs 1 DM were invisible to everyone else on the map.

Just like everyone else is invisible to the two death match players.

However, in fact all players can see them.

So it's basically a ghost organization for the whole lobby.

I remember players using this to grief lobbies way back on 360.  2 players would both get jets, 1 would kill the other to start the 1v1 and then go on to kill other players  with the ability to keep getting a new jet if they were shot down.   Then rinse n repeat when the 1v1 ended.

Used to use this with friends & crew on 360 to get them tanks to drive around and cause mayhem in because at one point it would kick people using a pegasus vehicle if they didn't own it.

It doesn't kick the player out if they're using your Pegasus owned vehicle nowadays.

These 1 on 1's have been much better than the usual sniper/marksman affair they turn into. Think I'm going to try a Buzzard next..
