Why have a Bar?

Ok, so I purchased the bar for my Moonshine Shack (more to prevent being stuck in limbo again when the game spawns me in a bar I haven't purchased), but I'm kind of unclear on the point of it.  I thought that it might provide a source of income as patrons would come in and buy drinks... but there's nothing.

Is there some reason to have a bar?

The bar its self? There's no mechanics tied to it, it is simply a social area.

The business aspect of the shack if purely in the Moonshiner stuff in the other room and the missions you can trigger upstairs. The bar can be stocked with what ever you're brewing but that's about it.

Alas.  It would be nice if it made a few dollars a day.

What about visitors?  Is there some way people can visit my bar?  Can I make it publicly accessible?

The bar stocks your moonshine.  Strong, flavoured moonshine provides a tonic effect - yellow rims around your health, stamina and deadeye.

The bar also features pretty regularly in daily objectives - play with the band, drink strong moonshine, serve another player, drunken interaction with other player, dance for 2 minutes etc.

They are all among the quickest and easiest (and reliable - most of them seldom glitch) daily objectives, so it’s actually one of the best gold farms in the game.

You can invite your posse members or other players there.

Ya, but I can't get just random dropins...?  That's a shame, if it's only by invite.

Like a bonus the shine shack offers a great place for completion of the jump on a horse from 3m challenge.
The peak of the roof is just the right height to jump from and land in the saddle for some easy gold.

The quick and easy challenges the bar provides is easy gold. Especially at .5 gold each.
Those easy challenges can help to keep a daily streak in very short play time.
Some days i log on a little before the list changes and can do 2 days in short time to keep my streak.
Challenges i can do at my bar make that easy.

Not precisely related to the bar, but is there a way to get a new customer list?  I made some fancy brew, but the one who wanted it has disappeared from the list, and I don't want to sell it to Bert for half its value...

The customer list refreshes every 48 mins, if you wanted have a different buyer you need to be able to make strong moonshine..

Maybe a bug. About 2 months ago i had one of the best moonshines, $247 or $227.
After a couple days that rat Bert was the only buyer. I also changed lobbies.
I gave in and sold to Bert. This has only happened to me once.
Maybe if i sold more batches per week it would happen more often to me.

I have found that a solo lobby i luck into will usually end if i attempt a shine sale.
The lobby does not repopulate. Instead i get an infinite black screen.
Fortunately when i load into a new populated lobby my shine is still there to sell.

It was fine at first, talented band, nice deco. Now I just want the equipment they used to dig the hole.

They stapled the Nightclub function and turned it into YeeHaw Suds, except there's several functional bars already with games.

Would have been smarter to limit instancing of Moonshiner Bar-owners (and all other roles so you'd stick to one at a time) so that you could "own" those legitimate bars and it'd be a public space. Could it even time it, so it's your bar for X amount of real time or in-game nights.

Would only work for a handful of players at a time per lobby, sure, but the role would actually matter.  Longer role life, better integration.

R* has absolutely no clue how to marry GTAO money making scheme to a slow paced role playing game.

The bar is also a great spot to go AFK without getting kicked for inactivity. And if you sit before you go AFK, your cores don’t drain like they do when you go AFK using Wilderness Outfitters at camp or in a shop, etc..

Got the band in there now, so that helps add a bit of life to the place.

Kind of a strange PLACE for the bar though.  Customers would have to come in through the distillery, which also lets them know where the secret door is.  It probably should have been built on the other side, opposite the secret door to the distillery.

If nothing else, it is kinda cool to sit with your posse in the back with other patrons, each holding a glass of shine, and toasting at the same time.

You can play in the band! In fact anyone in the bar can play in the band too...

My interpretation is that you do not own the bar...Maggie does.  You invest in her and help get her started by doing everything, she supplies the knowledge, you supply the labor.  It would be nice if idiot cripps would go pick up a small batch of the moonshine you are making and kept it in camp for you.  Also, it would be nice if Maggie would allow us to use the kitchen to cook or at least build a fire outside the shack so we could.

It would be nice if there was a way to open up your bar to random visitors, perhaps choosing from a list in one of the menus.  Like setting your flag on your camp, you add your camp to the "open for business" list.

As it is, no one has (or likely ever will) visited my bar, nor have I visited anyone else's.

If you had bought the shack on day one then you would have had some visitors. After a week everyone stopped accepting invites.

If you could set your bar to join a list of open bars, people might just drop in.  I mean, I'd like to visit someone else's bar, just for something to do, but I don't know anyone in game, and it would be nice to visit the bar of someone I DON'T know.

There are dailies sometimes for drunk interactions with players/serving drinks to players there. (at least on the Xbox one, I get these invites ALL THE TIME (if a daily is up.)

This is why you'll sometimes get a stranger player inviting you to their moonshine shack then. I've never taken it, but I guess I should to be nice? ;) I don't bother because I have not been close to

completing the entire list of "trade" dailies, so really ignore ones that need other players.

I guess you are right, but I can't really see a player JUST hanging around in their shack otherwise (if there was an "open invite" thing, like you say.)

====================

As far as "why have a bar", it is just for often easy daily completion and something else to do in the game (if I can even zone into my moonshine shack... ;) )

If I'm JUST trying to keep my daily streak up, with at least one daily and nothing else "fast" is around, playing with the band (especially) for two minutes or dancing for two minutes (but you have to hold the controller button, for the dancing one...) are pretty easy.

The bugs involved with moonshine deliveries (with zone into the shack problems sometimes), as well as still having no luck ever getting the poison poppy recipe, kind of make me not so keen on the shack in general. The 50 minute wait, for the strong one which is worthwhile, is also kind of dumb; this is especially true since you have to time the "special recipe" with the buyer still being around, or you might be selling for WAY LESS to the horrible "Bert Higgins" (or keep checking back, hours later, for someone who wants the special one again.)

Lately, if it is just a daily for a special moonshine delivered/18 bottles intact, I often just do a weak moonshine so it is ready fast. Once you've maxed the trades, having so much money after that, there is little reason to try to do the higher money with the additional headaches.

I've had random bar invitations, but I'm always DOING something.  If I'm going to visit someone else's bar, I need to be able to do it when I want, not just when I get a random invitation.  That's why I suggested having a toggle of some kind that would allow people to load into your bar from a list of available bars.
