Play the missions and don't forget to give me feedback about them. :colgate:

Hi, guys. Guess who's back! It's been a quite a while. I'm happy to be back. :colgate: This is going to be a long post. It's essential that you read EVERYTHING in order to be fully in tune with this mission pack as there is a lot of new stuff in it that I've never done/used in my previous mission packs. Let's get into it. 'The Shadow Ring' is a completely new mission pack, not connected to any of my previous mission packs. It's finished and it consists of 59 missions. All of ''The Shadow Ring'' missions are connected to each other, so I suggest you play them in order which you are able to follow in this topic.

This mission pack requires you to install a lot of plugins and mods to be able to play it. This is the first time I've ever created a mission pack which doesn't rely solely on the vanilla GTA San Andreas game, so as much as I'm happy about it, I'm also concerned too because some of you may not be able to play the missions due to the mods (hopefully that doesn't happen). I HIGHLY recommend you to install the mods on a freshly installed vanilla GTA San Andreas. Otherwise, your game, as well as the missions, could get screwed up depending on which other mods you may already have installed prior to the ones needed here. All of the plugins, support files and mods are included in a ZIP archive along with the missions and a Readme instruction manual which you also have to FULLY read since it's extremely important. It explains how/where to install the stuff you need to be able to play the mission pack (in case you've never done it before) and some other technical things also. Just a heads up, things you'll need to install are the following:

1) Plugins and mod support files - Used to prevent your game from crashing (hopefully). This is also the most important part of this whole process. In the ZIP archive, I've included all the plugins and mod support files that I use in my game. You need to install them all to have the best chance of avoiding crashes. The Readme instruction manual walks you through everything step by step, so don't worry.

2) Modloader - It makes installing and deleting mods super easy and keeps your mods organized.

3) Skin mods - Technically, you are able to play this mission pack without the skin mods, but I've included them for a reason. Mission pack wise, if you don't install them, everyone will look ridiculously out-of-character, a lot of conversations and scenes will not make sense to you because the appearances of certain characters play a role throughout the mission pack. By not installing the skins, you will ultimately heavily diminish your experience with this mission pack and quite frankly, there is no point in playing it without them. So, install the skins as this mission pack is intended to be played with them. I just want to point out two things about the skin mods in relation to the mission pack that you need to know to avoid confusion:

a) There are two skins that you're not meant to install before certain missions to avoid spoilers. You have to install them SPECIFICALLY AND ONLY FOR MISSIONS 20, 21, 22 and 23. After that, those two skins can be removed as they won't be needed after the mission 23. I have put them into a folder called ''Skins20212223'' which is a separate folder from the main ''Skins'' folder so it can serve you as a reminder. So, once you complete mission 19, you can either just copy the ''Skins20212223'' folder into the modloader folder or copy the content of the ''Skins20212223'' folder into the main ''Skins'' folder, that's up to you.

b) During your playthrough, you'll notice that not all of the characters who show up in the mission pack have modded skins. Don't worry, it's how it should be. Some characters in the mission pack indeed have vanilla GTA San Andreas skins because some of them look really cool! To know which characters have modded skins and which don't, you can check the character photos in the character list down below.

4) Map mods - Right off the bat, no, these are neither graphics mods such as ENB nor some texture mods, nothing like that. The map mods included here have actual purpose and play a vital role in the mission pack. They spawn new interiors, places and objects which are not accessible or do not exist in the original game (one of these mods is a well known ''Enterable hidden interiors'' mod). You HAVE TO install these mods because without them, you can't play the missions.

The map mods are the reason why I'm concerned about this mission pack. They are EXTREMELY detailed... just ridiculous high quality. Some of their authors have explicitly stated in their Readme files that you HAVE TO adjust your GTA San Andreas graphics settings in a specific way, otherwise your game could potentially crash on loading screen or once you try to get near the place where the mod spawns in game regardless of how many plugins and mod support files you have installed. The game simply can't handle certain mods at certain settings, I guess. Everything about the specific settings you have to adjust is covered in the Readme instruction manual, that's why it's equally as important that you read it too.

VERY IMPORTANT:

---> I've created this mission pack with my frame limiter ON because the game/DYOM acts very differently with frame limiter ON and OFF. For that reason, you absolutely HAVE TO play this mission pack with the frame limiter ON. That's also one of the settings you need to adjust. You don't have to adjust the frame limiter because of the mods, but because of the DYOM engine behaviour in relation to this mission pack and the game itself. Also, because of the fact that these missions are intended to be played with frame limiter ON for a number of reasons which I will explain in a second. I've tested all the missions with the frame limiter ON and OFF on two different PCs multiple times and on both PCs, the missions act VERY DIFFERENTLY with the frame limiter turned ON and OFF, so that's why I have to assume that the result will be the same on any other PC too.

Bottom line is, the missions WILL NOT ACT PROPERLY with the frame limiter OFF. The timings when it comes to actors' routes become wrong... Their routes get shorter than they should be and become very sluggish, especially driving routes... driving behaviour in cutscenes becomes different. In particular, the cars tend to have much stronger brakes and they stop the car way before their designated route points which then looks ridiculous during the scenes and just breaks the continuity of the sequences to the point where they don't make sense... the actors remain stationary and don't want to shoot enemies during cutscenes in time etc. etc. etc. In short, Frame limiter OFF = PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE. It screws up some of the most crucial moments during the mission pack. You'll be left confused during/after some of the crucial moments if you play this mission pack with frame limiter OFF. I just want you to get the best possible experience, that's all, so play with frame limiter ON! I included the Silent Patch which, among other things, eliminates the stuttering that occurs while playing with the frame limiter ON, so it's all good. <---

For low end PC users (or those who might experience crashes in general due to mods):

For those of you who have a low end PC (or experience crashes in general due to mods), I've also devised a strategy on how to try to help you guys get the game up and running with these mods and give you the best chance of avoiding crashes (could work or not, I'm not sure). I posted the mission list down below (it's also included in the Readme instruction manual). There you'll find a regular mission list, but next to each mission, I've specifically stated which map mods you are required to have installed for each particular mission so you can leave only those essential ones in modloader folder and take out all other ones that you don't need for that particular mission to reduce the strain on the game as much as possible. Modloader enables you to simply swap mods in and out when necessary, so it's really easy.

Unfortunately, you will have to check the mission list before playing each mission in that case to know which map mods you need for that particular mission and that kinda sucks because it's a half spoiler, but it's the only way to minimalize the strain on the game in case you experience crashes when running it with all the mods at the same time. If your game crashes even when you have only the essential map mods for the mission and all of the plugins and mod support files in place, then I'm sorry, but it's out of my hands. It means the mods are simply too much for your game to handle.

For medium-to-high end PC users:

Those of you who have medium-to-high end PCs should simply put all of the map mods in the modloader folder at once and play the mission pack with all of them installed at the same time without experiencing any crashes. Of course, in that case you also don't need to look at the mission list before playing each mission (which is how I intended it to be done in the first place to avoid the unncessary half spoilers).

Instant gameplay segment:

One final new thing: the ''Instant gameplay'' segment of this mission pack. This mission pack nominally follows three main protagonists. However, there are instances where you will be playing as other characters in the story as well. The purpose of ''Instant gameplay'' segment is to completely eliminate the natural character hierarchy. In this mission pack, practically speaking, there are no real 'natural' protagonists. You will see how it works when you play the missions.

And… That's it, I think. Everything else is covered in the Readme instruction manual. By the way, the character list doesn't include character descriptions this time. I think learning about these characters through missions instead of through detailedly written character descriptions beforehand will make the experience better. If you think about it, when you go watch a movie or a TV show for the first time for example, you don't get to read detailed character descriptions, so that's what I decided to do here as well. Let's proceed to the regular topic stuff now. :colgate:

Theme song:

Summary:

'The Shadow Ring' is a secret criminal syndicate which has been operating all over San Andreas for years. Tom Rhodes (the founder) and the three other members of the syndicate (called the 'Shadows'), are the only ones who know about the name and the existence of the syndicate. What makes 'The Shadow Ring' unique is the principle on which its secrecy is kept. With the exception of Tom Rhodes, the identities of other three members of the syndicate are kept a secret from everyone, including each other, at all times. They never deal with each other directly, only through Tom Rhodes who is the ultimate middle man, the one who keeps everything in order and makes sure that everything runs smoothly inside the syndicate. But, once Tom Rhodes finds out someone outside 'The Shadow Ring' knows about its existence, the game changes dramatically.

Credits:

Credits for creating the map mods go to the following amazing authors: Michelle_Works , Eny Modding , artginPL , maxirp , M. Osborn and Skript47

There are way too many authors of the skin mods to name them all, but also to be honest, I don't even rememeber everyone since I've been using some of these skin mods for months BEFORE I even decided to use them in this mission pack. Still, all credits for the skin mods go to their authors (whoever they are).

Thanks a lot, man! :colgate: I've been using the vanilla map for so long and it's a bit ''stale'' to me.

Since I didn't want to get too crazy (switching to GTA Underground), but I also didn't want to stick with the usual vanilla map, I decided to go with the middle ground which are smaller, independent map mods. They definitely bring a fresh ambience, so I hope you guys will like that. Same thing with skins. I've been using modded skins in my own game for a while now, so I decided to incorporate them into this thing too. They definitely bring an extra dimension to the mission pack as well. :colgate: I'm kinda sad I haven't done this before.

UPDATE: ''The Shadow Ring'' mission pack is uploaded. The download link is posted at the top of the first post. The entire first post has been updated with the character list and the mission list!

If you haven't yet, read the entire first post before playing this mission pack because otherwise, you might experience crashes. After reading the first post, I recommend everyone to first try to play the mission pack with all of the mods installed and see if it works that way. If it doesn't work, then come back and read the mission list so you don't read half spoilers for no reason!

Also, READ THE ENTIRE README FILE! IT'S VERY IMPORTANT!

I would like anybody to just let me know real quick whether the download link is working or not so I know everything is set up! I had a lot of fun creating this mission pack and I hope you guys will like it! Have fun and don't forget to leave a feedback afterwards!

Hey bro, that's great to hear :colgate: I'll be very much looking forward to your written feedback or maybe a video review this time? That would surely be awesome, but do as it suits you best :colgate: You said in your Ballas Doom video review that you like modded skins and that most DYOM designers don't care to include any in their mission packs which is true, so that's one more reason why I'm happy to present this mission pack. I know you'll appreciate the modded skins. :colgate:

Honestly, I had to google the name Ezio to find out who you're referring to. :colgate: I've never played Assassin's Creed, but now that I've seen who the face belongs to, it's really funny :colgate: I just liked the skin. I never would've thought it was from Assassin's Creed.

On another note, I'm very much looking forward to your feedback, man. I hope you like the missions! :colgate:

Why didn't you put description to characters like your previous Mission Packs?

Hey man. I explained it in the first post - I think learning about these characters through missions instead of through detailedly written character descriptions beforehand will make the experience better. If you think about it, when you go watch a movie or a TV show for the first time for example, you don't get to read detailed character descriptions, so that's what I decided to do here as well.

Basically, after thinking about it, I came to a conclusion that giving character descriptions is unnecessary and it takes away from the player's experience because you get to know the characters before you even see them. Like this, the player gets to know each character as they come along and gets to develop an own opinion and view on the characters based on their actions. I think it's more natural.

:colgate:

I recognized it instantly! :D

Nice skins tho. I think the whole mod addition will make the mission pack much more digestable. Looking forward to what the plot has to offer!

Oh definitely. I've had so much fun creating this mission pack and part of the reason was the fresh environment that the new skins and map mods brought to the table. Like I said before, I'm kinda sad I haven't used modded stuff in some of my previous mission packs.

So, the download link works fine, that's great. :colgate: What's also great is to hear that you're going to play this! I'll be looking forward to your feedback then as well! Hope you like it, man. Thanks for the warm welcome back, it sure is good to be back after what, a year and a half? :colgate:

@GKHEAT Sorry man, I didn't see your comment at first! Thank you very much for the support :colgate: Hopefully you find time to play this!

Hey man. I explained it in the first post - I think learning about these characters through missions instead of through detailedly written character descriptions beforehand will make the experience better. If you think about it, when you go watch a movie or a TV show for the first time for example, you don't get to read detailed character descriptions, so that's what I decided to do here as well.

Ok man, thanks for telling me. It sounds good and I think I will do this too in my future Mission Packs

That's nice, man :colgate:

I made a lot of things differently in this mission pack and perhaps the biggest thing for me was the approach. In my other mission packs, I went with the approach where the story carried the characters, but in this one, the characters carry the story. It's really character driven, so that's also part of the reason why I decided not to include the character descriptions. They would take away not only from the player's experience, but also from the characters too and I definitely didn't want that to happen.

Hey, Jimmy. Sorry for disturbing you. Can I ask you how did you put characters' photo on this topic?

Hey man. I uploaded the photo to one of the free image sharing sites called postimage. After you upload your photo, a pop up appears listing various links to your image. You need to copy the link next to the ''Direct link'' mark and just paste it here in your post. It should automatically appear. :colgate:
