I thought that might be the case, except even then, they've still changed the colours - and when I checked, details like vents and the sun visor are basically the same as those on the Schubert rather than the Falconer Yellowcar:

-snip-

On the other hand it is missing the wheel on the right side and doesn't have the license plate on the grille. But then again the taxi on the remastered screenshot is missing a trunk which both cars have and it also has a license plate on the bumper which neither have as well as horns. Also the doors are different. But it doesn't really matter, we will see.

That is unbelivable, insane news! Never though it will turn out this way. How gorgeous those screenshots, just an eye pr0n! Hope they didn't screwed gameplay, and the story, just please don't!

True, although I've noticed that they've made little changes here and there - the trunk on the Bruno comes up taller than the original model (and also the real-life Auburn), and they've added a gas cap that (IIRC) wasn't included on the original. But I'm still pretty sure they're using the Schubert for that taxi - the badge on the front of the grille is the same, and the base of the grille is flat, rather than curved like the Fletcher.

Similarly, it looks like this is the Schubert Extra Six Fordor, but they've changed little things like the grille design, added additional fogs/horns/wing mirrors, and a rear box trunk instead of a spare wheel:

Yes, this is my main issue. Michael Sorvino did a perfect job as Tommy and he is still alive, it is not like they can't ask him to come in. Not to mention, this game's main focus is the character development and the psyche of a criminal. Voice acting is crucial and the voice in the trailer doesn't fit Tommy's compassionate yet cold personality. This voice sounds like someone who will kill anyone. Tommy killed criminals and showed mercy several times. He has that tiredness in his voice when he talks with detective Norman. It is hard to say but Michael Sorvino's voice is what fits Tommy. I really hope they find someway to keep it because this is a major blow to the quality already.

That's actually a Lassiter judging by the color scheme. The one that Salieri has during Bon Apettit.  Yea the Schubert Extra Six was changed, pretty sure they are adding new details. It is still easily recognizable though.

Man I'm super excited! I do hope they let us free roam outside chapters in Mafia 2 aswell as a proper way to save the game instead of relying on the damn autosave. Also Mafia 1 looks tremendous and I'm interested what new features there gonna add.

Whoops - you're right: I was getting thrown by this green Bruno, but the trunk of the Lassiter Roadster comes up higher, as well as there being a chevron-shaped gap between the trunk and the rear bumper:

Overall, I like what I'm seeing - everything looks familiar, just with even more detail. At this rate, it's worth getting just for the carcyclopedia alone... :O

In the full trilogy trailer, I'm actually struggling to hear the difference between Tommy and Vito - to the point where I almost suspect they couldn't get Michael Sorvino, and so it's Rick Pasqualone doing his best Tommy Angelo impersonation instead:

(hopefully that's just for the trailer, yeah - after all, if Saints Row the Third Remastered is a near-total rebuild, but still uses the audio from the original 2011 release, I don't see why this remake can't do the same)

Even though I hated Mafia 3, I really loved the shooting in that game. It would be really cool if they implemented that in Mafia 1. Oof, just thinking about it gets me excited.

Probably because they have new missions in the game, as they said the story is expanding. But I don't see why they didn't ask Sorvino/why Sorvino wouldn't come. But agreed he sounds very similar to Vito.

If they expand the plot (and just because this is a full-fledged remake), then most likely there will be a re-sound. Gather all the old actors after so many years is hardly possible, it's like with the reform, where the voices of Arthas and Jaina from warcraft  were banal busy at the right moment. And then finally the no idea what with the actors.

It's like a trip to the late 90's early 2000s but with modern visuals! Destroy All Humans!, THPS1+2 & now Mafia! Can't be more happy..

Salieri's voice actor died in 2010 and I'm pretty sure he's not the only case, so voices are mostly likely going to be new.

I looked it up on iMDB. Only Salieri's voice is dead and that's it. Every other major character's VA is alive. Fun fact: Salieri's actor played the voice of Sonny's right hand man and Old Kelly in VC.

That's awesome! So good to see Hangar 13 trying to redeem themselves from the mixed reviews of Mafia 3.

Also it's kind of a shame I didn't get too much into Mafia. Played a bit of II, was considering buying it a while ago bub didn't for reasons. Now I'll have to give the series a proper try!

Worst-case scenario: they couldn't get Sorvino, and figured it more consistent to just recast Tommy entirely. Bungie's done that a couple of times with Destiny, both of which where instances where they originally cast someone mainly known for film/TV work (Peter Dinklage and Jamie Chung), only for them to be busy when it came to recording the DLC, and so they got people who are more full-time voice actors (Nolan North and Erika Ishii) to not only do the new dialogue, but also re-record all the original lines as well.

Yup - only alternative is that they work around something like that (because the new missions don't involve Salieri, for instance), or the expanded stuff is actually based on cut content, and so they've got stuff of the same vintage as the original audio to use.

Not to mention Final Fantasy VII, Saints Row the Third, (supposedly) Mass Effect 1/2/3 - I don't know why exactly we're getting a sudden splurge of remakes/remasters (normally that happens with end-of-generation stuff getting re-released for brand-new consoles, not stuff from 1-2 generations ago), but I'm not complaining! :p

I would have to accept a new Salieri in that case, hopefully they pick someone good. But please get the old cast back at least for Tom, Paulie, Sam, Luigi, Frank, Luca, Ralph and Vincenzo. Although yea maybe Frank could give you those missions. Or Sam, considering he is a capo but he is never seen in a bossy role.

I like the voice so far. Sounds like a classic italian-american. Too early to judge, we'll see.

The driving man! What are they gonna do with it? Almost every single car in Mafia had its own "personality" and felt differently. Oh, I remember this disgusting abomination of a vehicle that you have to use to get to Morello's bar and blow his cars up, but then gradually as the story progresses, Ralphie introduces you to better cars. Getting a new ride was exciting every time! Driving and cars are crucial in this game!

I hope they keep it real. I don't know how 3 felt like (but I bet this will be a different engine) but Mafia 1 was pretty realistic. I hope you can switch between manual and automatic with a press of a button like in the original. The first car you get gets stuck on the road leading up to the hill if you don't keep it in the first gear.

Do you think they brave enough to go full simulator mode? Mafia I was really up in physics, but everything for sure been also simplified. Today this could take every aspect in account, including realistic sounds.

At least hope they brave enough to make Vintage Formula mission just as hard as pre patch version of original. Need some driving challenge in this game.

In 2002, I was 13 years old, and it was a difficult time in Russia..There was no gaming culture, games were not brought to our city to the North.I played those games that were, the mafia got to me by accident, but the game did not start due to a weak video card (Riva TNT2 16 Mb).I was sobbing, the screenshots on the box were too beautiful at the time.. But the computer was updated only a year later.First passed GTA III and fell in love with it and then mafia city of Paradise Lost

Mafia 4 is heavily rumored to be coming out late Fall 2021, so they're probably working on something new. Now you've got a remake of Mafia 1, which is the best thing about this move, and then there's the concept of raising IP awareness which can help to boost the marketing of the next game. These types of games take a lot more time and resources than usual. The gaps needs to be filled... for now.

Mafia 1 remake doesn't look lazy at all.

I'm not a fan of Tommy's new voice though, but I'll try to get over it.

He's just not supposed to sound like a mobster. And in that trailer he sounds like just the kind of tough guy who grew up wanting to be in the mafia.

Leaked full Mafia Remake Trailer

Side by side comparison between the leaked Mafia 2 Remaster Trailer and the original Boom Boom Trailer which they have remade. To be honest, this remake looks pretty sweet, they improved model quality greatly and changed the shader to a much better looking one. Only issues I notice are some odd facial anims here and there because of the new model edits...Hopefully they get fixed.

Edit: They added new facial animations to some cutscenes!

Mister Pink

Wow, just finding this out now. Only played the original Mafia on old OG crystal Xbox but wasn't really enough for this GTA obsessed teen back then. I was hooked on GTA back then so it wasn't like GTA, I wasn't as impressed. But since then I've enjoyed 2 (not a perfect game) and enjoyed 3, not a perfect game. Both have major flaws but both games fill these voids. But so glad I can go back and enjoy Mafia 1 now. Brilliant.

I'm a huge Boardwalk Empire fan. Anyone into Mafia should watch Boardwalk Empire, produced by Martin Scorsese and directed and written by a bunch of lads that did The Sopranos. It's the most rich crime, best produced crime show you'll get that you can switch on in anticipation for this. Wow! Those screens!

Phenomenal. So nice to get a 2002 remaster. Looks amazing.

The N. Bellic Man

Mafia 1 remake? It's pretty insane. I heard rumors before but didn't believe them. I just hope that they keep it as hardcore as it was. I still play the original sometimes, but it's pretty hard to get used to the camera angle and driving with keyboard. It still it looks pretty decent in 4K, but the city is pretty lifeless. Mafia 2 on the other hand  - well remains to be seen. PC version still looks great. I only hope that they would add the content that was suppose to be in the game when it was released. 3? Hope they add some variety. All in all it's still absolutely great that they are showing some love (and cashing in) for this great series.
