The lighting doesn't help everything looks dark. I did the Church mission before my disc decided to tell me f*ck you and during the cutscene you can't see Tommy's face at all lmaoo.

I think the Xbox version might be the better console version.

Looks fine for me with component cables and some adjusted  brightness settings. PS2 games in general are dark. I'm sure the Xbox version is better looking. Hopefully the loading screens aren't as a long either.

Trailer has a feeling to it, I like it but what the hell is up with that face of Tommy (?). Hangar 13 already showed us their potential I guess.

It has been suggested that this trailer was recorded on an older, not release-ready version of the game, just like the gameplay video. Tomorrow we will have gameplay from the copies sent to youtubers, then we will get a better idea of how the game looks and plays.

Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder...

Funny thing growing up me and my friends used to think of Mafia being a cheap version of the Godfather games. While Godfather 1 was good Godfather 2 was terrible. Mind you we weren't PC gamers so we didn't know much about Mafia. You went to gamestop and Godfather 1 was expensive while Mafia was like $5.

Godfather 2 was not that bad? You could blow up buildings and upgrade your family, just was missing a good storyline. I remember having fun with it.

Compared to the first Godfather game. It was bad the cities were poorly detailed, the combat was terrible, it was just a mess.

Mafia Iron Deficiency Edition

Funny I recently played godfather 1 again to get ready for mafia DE. Great game. Godfather 2 was trash though, idk why they made the cities so damn small. The promoting crew thing was cool though but just about everything else was bad. I dont like how we were forced to wear gun belts and body armor.

The speedometer I don't like that they took away the car mileage, and what gear it was in. The fuel gauge also looks way too modern imo.

Yea same, that kinda takes away from realism. I think this means that we can no longer use manual shift.

The images look okay but they seem a bit low quality and the graphics don't look cutting edge.. Maybe it's just because they have been sized down. And what's with the yellow filter over them anyways? Is this Fallout New Vegas? Also like the prohibition poster on one of these images, makes the world feel real, I really liked the WW2 propaganda in Mafia 2 for the same reason, it gives life to the world.

Hmm...a five-star wanted level system... I can certainly imagine 1 to 3-star wanted levels being similar to the original game (ticket, arrest, gun usage), and the 4-star wanted level being similar to Mafia II's maximum wanted level, where the police use machine guns. I wonder what the 5-star wanted level's gonna be like? I bet that's probably gonna mark Tommy Angelo as "Wanted", and every police officer in the vicinity will shoot on sight.

GameSpot's got a comparison between the opening of the original and the remake:

I'm still on the fence about this one - on the one hand, I appreciate what Hangar 13 did with Mafia III, and you can see similar things going on with the remake, but on the other, I don't trust 2K's track record when it comes to behind-the-scenes meddling, quality control, post-launch tech support, etc.

Definitely a 'wait for an informed review' for me - it'd be good to see if Noah Gervais bothers with it, considering how he's a fan of the series (hopefully he'll do it as a follow-up to his series retrospective from a few years back). Probably something to pick up on sale next year - if only because the back end of 2020 is going to get busy (RIP November, certainly...).

New videos have dropped

Looking at the intro. With the red bridge and the mountains in the background it looks more San Francisco than Chicago tbh. Gameplay looks a bit better but having infinite ammo while shooting from the car and also having autoaim doesn't mean any challenge.

More gameplay. Looks like the fuel consumption is a bit less realistic considering that the tank is half empty by the time you get to the motel. But maybe it was half empty to begin with. Executions are kinda cheesy.

This charge button and environmental traps are extremely cheesy, especially the charge button. The Sarah and the trio's growing friendship sound great though. I can't wait to explore that. But goddamn they better fix those throwables. They look horrible. Can't enter trams though, let's hope it won't stay like that.

The game looks nice overall. Gunply and animations are bad since they're a copy from Mafia 3.

I watched the entirety of Sexy Biscuit's stream, which was played on the Classic difficulty level. My overall thoughts are positive; I really want to play this game. The city and countryside look great. Everything feels much deeper than in the original. They do a lot to help build a believable world. Characters look and sound good. The driving seems ok, not too bad but nothing great either. There are some flaws. The damn yellow diamond marker that holds your hand entire time doesn't dissapear, not even in Classic mode, and apparently you can't turn it off. I don't like the combat too much, neither hand-to-hand or gunplay. Doesn't look very realistic or impactful. The chase at the end of A Trip To The Country now is way, waaaay too Hollywood. On a sidenote, in Classic the game seems to be harder than the original in some parts. Taking the race car to Lucas Bertone is much more difficult now, you barely have enough time and now there are actually cops on the street unlike in the original.

i predict that the story will stay true to the original mafia, but the gameplay will not.... tommy still shoots as easily as lincoln. maybe they could have just taken the easy way out and say that tommy actually is a trained soldier who served in WWI. that would shut people like me up.

I thought it was implied in Mafia I that he fought in WW1. At least that's my head cannon.

Looks decent. I doubt I’ll pour a ton of time into it, but I’ll buy it and play it.

Game looks amazing. They really nailed the 30s Chicago atmosphere in this one with the radio announcers, cars, city and music.

Acting looks fantastic, from what I've seen so far it's probably going to be as epic as Mafia 3.

And they fixed the HUD too! Definitely one of those games I'm getting this year.

No way, he was born in 1900. I think that's a canon and established year of birth at least.

He could have fought in like 1918 when he was 18 for a few months I guess.
