Mafia: The Trilogy

Whatever they do for a sequel, the game should be more about being a part of the Mafia than destroying Mafia like it was in M3.

I have a name I made for Mafia III. It feels less like a Mafia game and The Punisher set in the 1960s lol.

But yes I agree. Mafia IV needs to go back to its roots and be about an Italian/Sicilian-American man rising through the ranks of a mafia family. The problem with Mafia III is clearly the devs had a lot of ambition, but the ambition tripped over itself and it wasn't done that well IMO. Easily my least favourite of the three. Had some good ideas, but was let down by numerous technical issues, incredibly repetitive and stagnant gameplay etc.

That is what I did.  Instant access to download and play Mafia II.  I already had III installed so it just updated that install to the DE version.

I finished II and am onto 3 now.

Is it possible to pre-order the physical version and get instant access to 2 and 3?

Apparently Daniel Vavra had an idea for Mafia III while he was working on Mafia II but I guess that was all thrown out when he left.

do you guys think theres gonna be free roam after the story? some of us know how the story ends in mafia 1. how do you think they will handle free roam?

i really feel like theyre gonna add empire bay onto the map of mafia 1 because thats where he goes after the story (as shown in mafia 2)

They're probably not going to add free roam after the story is finished, since that's what the Freeride and Freeride Extreme modes are for.

I believe it is a digital only offer.  I may be wrong.

Although, you may want to wait anyway.   The remaster of II was enough of a mess.  And for some reason III seems to have suffered a reduction in graphic fidelity.  Really not sure why they toned down the graphics on III...really.

If it is someone's first playthrough then the trilogy pack makes sense.

While I haven't experienced any issues with Mafia II, Hangar 13 is developing a negative reputation for their studio. They're a new company, and so far everything they've made or touched has had issues. Not a good look for them.

I thought Hangar 13 outsourced Mafia II so they are creating negative reputation for themselves and for whom they outsourced it to.

Also, a month ago I was saying that a Mafia I remaster would never happen. Take Two went above and beyond to contradict me.

Mafia I is INCREDIBLY underrated.

Mafia II is a good game as well.

Mafia III though is definitely the black sheep of the Mafia games.

I don't know why developers insist on releasing buggy products, then charge a hefty price for it. I've only ever played part 2, so I missed out on the first and the third. I'm tempted to pre-order the digital, especially since I've got nothing else to play.

There better be more patches for it. Outsourcing it was a terrible idea.

During the winter time, pedestrians on the street fall over quite frequently on the snow/ice. I can't remember if that was in the original or a new feature, if so it's quite funny.

However, In the games current state it could easily a be glitch of some kind.

Also, the achievement for killing 50 gangsters is glitched. Not been unlocked yet on Xbox.

Do it.  If you never played all of 2 it may be worth it.  Just because there are some issues with this rerelease doesn't mean the core story and game have changed.    Mafia 2 is a good, fun ride...always has been.

And as I've said before;  I really enjoy III too.

I've played all of 2, but that was back in 2011. I've forgotten most of the game and want to experience it again. Never played 1 or 3.

Do it!  Spend the few bucks for the digital and get going.

I'm enjoying my (I guess 3rd complete) playthrough of 3.   I still don't understand why people like to not like 3.   3 keeps a good and diverse story while having the neat mechanic of assigning divisions to underbosses.  They weave that in nicely and don't get enough credit for that  neatness IMO.

The weird thing 3 does to me is make me get all the extras.  I never ever do that.  I never collect the pointless sh*t.  I never 100% a game.  But in 3...I have to get every Playboy, Vegas pic, Hot Rod mag, and even every circuit board(or whatever they are).  Of course the Playboys are great pieces of history.

2 might be my favorite of the series because of the period setting and well constructed story that works well with 'missions'.

I only played Mafia I once in the day...on pc.  Long time ago...  Totally looking forward to driving slow and using my turn signals.

I finally encountered some serious bugs later on in the game. In Chapter 13 and 14, there was an issue with NPC's aimlessly running into closed doors. It appears that interior doors were supposed to be open, but were all closed which interfered with NPC's programmed paths when in combat. This made for easy stealth missions but it was immersion breaking. Also, Joe is not able to climb obstacles inside any interiors. So during some shootouts, I was completely by myself with Joe stuck way behind, making it impossible for me to finish a mission or exit a building unless I restarted the game. Upon loading it back up, Joe would spawn near me and the mission could be finished. If anyone runs into this issue, reload.

A more minor issue is the radio volume significantly lowered after Chapter 12, and I couldn't revert it to normal volume levels even upon restarting the game.

Last but not least, this is one of the more hilarious glitches I've encountered - in some scenes, Vito's hat is wrapped around his head. Looks uncomfortable.

I definitely think this game is in need of some patches. It's not a terrible effort, but it butchered the original game in so many ways that I may find myself playing the classic version in the future, or I'll use some fan created mods that fix these issues.

So, are the remasters any good apart from a few bugs? I don't wanna pay for a less superior version of the game.

Mafia II certainly looks a lot prettier, but that's it. They introduced many new bugs which became prevalent in the later chapters for me. Nothing severely game-breaking, just annoying/immersion breaking. I would wait and see if any patches release first. If you've never played this game and don't own the original, definitely buy this. I'm playing it on PC, and the 4K textures do make a difference. It's gorgeous, and even the original version looks great by today's standards.

Mafia III is identical. It just has all the DLC included with the base game. There are no graphical improvements or bug fixes as far as I know. If anything, there may be some new issues from what I'm hearing.

Huh - so Mafia III DE managed to overwrite the Xbox One X enhancement patch (and I've read PS4 Pro users experiencing similar), but it did include the devs' vehicle testing level in the files:

And there's more - most notably, the basic map layout for Hangar 13's aborted follow-up project, "Rhapsody":

Berlin is very interesting take, wonder if some modders gonna utilize this map, this would be cool to expand Mafia III. Add 60's European cars. This would be like Driver's secret Newcastle, just a place to roam around. Also never heard German 60's pop music:).

Whoa, this could have been the bomb if it weren't in the hands of Hangar 13

Mafia II has all the DLCs included too right? You get all the DLC clothes and cars alongside with Joe's Adventure and two DLCs with Jimmy. Although I think all 3 of them suck so it isn't worth to buy the game just for that.

I've always wondered why a spy game set somewhere in the former Soviet union at the height of the cold war was never made. It seems like it would be a really interesting game. More so if you could roam around the city.

The only thing they have going for them is free roam. One thing Mafia II lacked.

Hangar 13 just should have made a free ride mod. If modders on the internet could do it I dunno how they weren't able to do one.
