So, what is up with that support for dlc's? Why you're saying that maybe it will make the dlc's being paid?

Oh my f*cking God, if this is real and Singleplayer is finally getting actual story DLCs then I don't even know how to react...Or even know if I care at all because it's been so f*cking long and I'm just not feeling like spending money on the same 2013 game with archaic gameplay mechanics.

I am still hoping a little its going to be San Fierro or Las Venturas, just imagine the money R* is doing on Next Gen, revealing that.

Although I think that this new feature for the launcher is most likely for paid Online DLCS, if single player DLC ever returns I’d buy it just to help more single player DLC come.

I think this is either for “expanded and enhanced” content for PC or paid Online content. That makes the most sense to me.

Yeah, the PC version of the next-gen stuff is likely going to be an update / DLC.

I agree. I worry that the “expanded and enhanced” version will just be PC on max settings but it’s also possible it could have some actual new content. This recent find actually gives credibility to speculation that the release could actually be something more than just PC on max settings. Though do note that the current gen version was advertised as being so much more advanced than the last gen version when honestly it wasn’t that different.

That would only happen in the next gen version, or once it comes, in late 2021, and wouldn't be added to the Launcher this early. I mean, most RDR2 launcher changes happened very near release.

You're emphasising that we may see the result of this in mere weeks, so that's got me to drum up a few scenarios of what we're looking at.

Option 1 - They're gonna give Paid DLC expansions a test run this December so they can work it out in the 10-11 months they'll have before the Next-Gen release.

Spoiler

Option A - Best case scenario; All the sandbox items are added to the game for purchase as per usual, but the ability to purchase the moneymaking side of the update is denied until you purchase the pass. (Think the Diamond Casino Heist, but you couldn't buy an Arcade without paying for the update, you could still buy all the vehicles that came with the update though), with the worst property costing $0, kinda like how the ability to get Pixel Pete's for free is a common Twitch Prime reward.

Option B - Worst case scenario; It's literally a Paid DLC, you can't purchase ANYTHING from the update without having bought it first, and even then the in-game prices will still be how they look today, because after all; investors don't want lots of money, they want ALL the money, and by not announcing a price tag until a week before launch will catch a majority of players off-guard and out of FOMO, they'll purchase the update regardless...

THIS could pose a risk to Week 1 profits the longer they do this, people might feel burned and next DLC, they'll wait for the reviews to come out.

Option 2 - A Single Player DLC consisting solely of all 2015 onward vehicles & weapons

Spoiler

Given the demand to be able to purchase vehicles and weapons from all DLC's from 2015 and onward in Story Mode (excluding Ill-Gotten Gains which made it in), they're finally implementing a way for players to do so (legitimately if you're on PC), since if they're not gonna get players to invest in the Next-Gen re-release, might as well make up for those losses with the release of (potentially) the last major update for current-gen coinciding with a long awaited update to single player, as well as any players who actually enjoy Story Mode and want to see how that plays with access to all the new toys.

Option 3 - Each update going forward will release with its own variation(s) of the "Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack".

Spoiler

Tier 1; Minimum Buy-In of the update with no extra's. (Paleto Bay Facility, Paleto Forest Bunker, Pixel Pete's Arcade, etc. The time waster locations).

Tier 2; Minimum Buy-In, no extra's and 2 cars from the update.

Tier 3; Mid-Range Buy-In, no-extra's and 4 cars from the update.

Tier 4; Top-Range Buy-In, no-extra's and 6 cars from the update.

I've not worked out any pricing for those, but for reference;

Starter Pack: $39.99 USD - $12,045,385 worth of in-game items (albeit, crap ones) + $1,000,000 bonus cash.

Megalodon: $99.99 USD - $8,000,000 Bonus Cash

I hope it will be something along option 3. I would accept even more inflated prices of in game items as long as i don't have to pay a cent for it. Making money is easy now with diamond heist and paying for grind ''experience'' with same inflated prices like it is now doesn't make sense to me, unless they plan to bring down prices like they were around first heist update or earlier. Worst case scenario is of course option 1, that would be bold move and they would loose significant player base if they don't have to offer anything mind blowing with each purchasable update.

Most likely scenario is they gonna charge for ''enhanced and expanded'' edition for PC even though we don't know what it means for now, maybe they would make it that you can't even play on PC if you don't own enhanced version or you can't have access to new updates that will come with it.

Another option is that they could divide GTA5 in two versions and charge separately for them with online portion of a game 2/3 of a price of story mode, then again most people who would buy GTA5 in 2020 would buy it strictly to play online.

Beware it's just speculation, they could very well add this and never speak of it again, but usually they do changes close to actually announcing something. Might not be the case.

Because GTA is built on the Hollywood concept of organised crime. Shootouts, heists, car chases. Japan has never had anything like that. The reason the Yakuza is still around and still has so much power and influence in Japanese society is precisely because they AVOIDED such high profile nonsense. The Yakuza makes damn sure they keep their heads down and focus on things like racketeering, prostitution, and gambling. In doing so, they stay out of the public eye and the government of Japan pretends they don’t exist. Nobody asks questions. A big part of this is because of how guns are so ridiculously rare in Japan, so any sort of homicide with a firearm makes national news. This severely limits what the Yakuza can get away with, meaning all of their dirty deeds are done behind closed doors.
And this isn’t even addressing the fact that Tokyo really isn’t a good city to drive in. Beyond the expressway and the few major road lines, Tokyo is primarily a walking/public transit city. It’s just not designed with cars in mind. The vast majority of streets would qualify as alleyways for most people. One lane wide, with constant awkward bends requiring walking-pace driving. There’s a reason why kei cars and bikes are what most people drive.

The end result being to make a game that comes even close to the GTA spirit, it would basically have to be a teriyaki-flavoured USA. It simply wouldn’t be believable. The Yakuza games are about as close as it can get to a GTA Japan.

If they want to set a GTA game in a city outside the US, it has to be a city that fits the bill for being cosmopolitan, crime-riddled, good for a narrative, and good for driving. Hong Kong/Macao, Cape Town ZA, Montreal, Buenos Aires, Paris, and London are all good choices. Rio/Sao Paolo are also possibilities, but less realistic because of the roads being mostly too narrow.

I guess this discussion is for another thread and it's culturally subjective about whether or not it will make a decent crime setting. There's plenty of compelling Japanese cinematic crime heritage to draw upon, but as you say it isn't Hollywood. I will say though that Tokyo is absolutely an outstanding city to drive in. Zoom in on a map to any square mile in Tokyo and you'll see a tiny part of the massive web of aerial expressways, sometimes two or three layers high. On the ground level sure the backstreets are impossibly narrow, but they're intersected by plenty of two and four-lane main streets. Relatively few people drive not because it's difficult but because it's very expensive to store and run a car and public transport is so good. Driving though Tokyo as a foreigner is lifelong-unforgettable, LA was just a traffic jam.

also it's not like LA and NY are any better to drive in, the traffic levels HAVE to be low in IV and V, not just for performance but for the player's sanity, can you imagine trying to get away from cops in GTA IV if there was gridlock?  or even just trying to get to a destination?

He will freeze it and put it in his art collection.

Exactly, it’s not Hollywood. For it to be even remotely believable, we’d only use guns in 4 missions and basically everything we do would be shaking down neighbourhoods for protection money. It’s just not fit for the style of a GTA game.

most of Tokyo’s roads look like this: 3578439488_bd8cefa711_b.jpg

the vast majority of the city is not Minato or the Shuto expressway. Good luck trying to drive your Infernus at triple digit speeds through that.

I'm not so sure about your austere perception of weapons, I could tell a tale or two, but anyway a lot of Tokyo will look and feel like an infinite tourist trail nacomachi if you're new to the place and don't drive there. Just like if you're easily-led in New York then you might for an exuberant moment think that the whole city is like the area around north Central Park if you're only there for a weekend.

The ground level lifeblood of Tokyo and a lived experience of the place is more like the thousands of km of this. I drove across that place for the best part of a year almost daily, and I f*cking loved it. It does have game potential, perhaps not quite in our current GTA paradigm.
