My reasoning why it’s more likely than not is because Rockstar really has to do something big with this update. The next-gen systems both drops in a matter of weeks and the next-gen version of GTA Online doesn’t come out until the middle of 2021. If you release a huge update in December you keep a ton of people playing GTA until the new version comes out.

That's an interesting thought. However, the meaning "Biggest update ever" can be interpreted as a lot of content such as cars, planes, weapons, missions etc. God, i wish some info came trough on Rockstars end to shine some light on the subject. My gut is telling me we're getting an addition to the map this december though, but i'm still very sceptical about it for some reason.

I think the biggest update ever line was telling. I think they were referring to the map expansion, heist, new cars, etc. All of it. They need to do something huge to keep people playing and I think that’s exactly what they will do.

Above the addition of an seperate island, i would love to see the most speculated thing on the site so far: Mansions. If they want to close the current era with a bang they also should include the ability to buy them. How great would it be to be able to buy mansions on the island. I will blow my lid. Either way, mansions or an island; it will make me moist

Also if they add karts i will be ascended

That's huge. Usually i do a couple of chores when GTA is loading such as vacuuming the house, do the dishes, take a bath, walk my dog, go to work, sleep, graduate etc. Looks like this wont be the case anymore.

Because Sam Houser has historically done stuff with their social media profiles before. Sam Houser has pictures with the Circoloco Ibiza people because they're friends and R* is likely a sponsor - this has happened with other festivals.

GTA Online's loading problems aren't hardware related. If you watch your resource monitors you can see your disk usage isn't really being utilized. A good indicator of this is running the game on a traditional HDD isn't much different than my NVMe drive when loading into online. Meanwhile loading singleplayer takes literally seconds.

The problem is it's Rockstar's garbage matchmaking and online services. Because they went peer to peer its not like your client is connecting with a central server to sync up the lobby, it has to communicate with all the other clients. That's if the matchmaking service actually works and finds you a valid lobby. I frequently get the pop-up "GTA Online is FUBAR go back to singleplayer" and have to find another lobby. Another issue is when you have a modder in the lobby and want to switch lobbies, Rockstar's genius matchmaking service makes you go through a ridiculous loading time only to be put in the same lobby you just tried to leave. The only way to switch lobbies is to go back to singleplayer, and then load back into online.

All because Rockstar is too cheap to pay for some dedicated servers.

At the very least, the online loading time has been cut quite a bit when it comes to RDO so it also shows there's probably some deeper issues causing the long loading screens in GTAO, not just the bad matchmaking.

I would argue for RDO they've optimized their matchmaking service.

I don't know for sure, I don't play Read Dead and don't plan to, so I can't look at how it compares to GTA O personally.

I will say, I remember when GTA O first launched (for PC, I'm not a console guy) the loading times weren't as bad as they are now. So it may be something that gets progressively worse somehow.

That's not even mentioning the fact they've hamfistedly used Social Club as a tacked on DRM feature on PC, one that recent mod menus can weaponize against a person to such a degree that they can f*ck with your game even if you're in single player, and honestly wouldn't be surprised if they can swipe your card info at this point. Hell, the problem have massive lobby wide DDoS attacks on players has been a thing for even longer. Piss a Cryhard off and not accept that invite? That's ok, they'll just nab every IP in the lobby and boot them offline one at a time till they hit your IP, you cowardly bastard, all those people died because of You (People like that may or may not actually attempt to justify it in that manner, but they tend to do so).

It's actually amazing how bad the GTA Online environment is for PC. Their utter failure to lockdown modders in the online environment has totally jacked up the entire game.

On one hand, its a great thing that GTA V is such an open platform for modding, because that's a great thing for PC players who can bring unlimited content into their games. I hope GTA VI has the level of modability that V does. Some of the best GTA content has been mods, and it has been for years.

BUUUUT at the same time, they created a pseudo MMO online game relying on peer-to-peer connectivity and almost zero handshakes with Rockstar servers?? It's so amateur its negligent. There is a reason every real MMO uses dedicated servers split into shards. There is no actual reason Rockstar could not have accomplished that.

It's blatantly obvious where the priorities were when they created the networking system for GTA O because the one, sole (half-baked) handshake with an official server is money. I wonder why they would want to control illegitimate money...

If Rockstar's selection of the podium vehicles factors in a possible release window for the next update, then we may be looking at a possible release window no earlier than December 3rd. And that puts them in a tough spot dealing with Cyberpunk 2077 new release date, which notably poses a threat to their financial strategy.

Well, then, here's an idea to R*: start to promote your update in november instead of going radio silent until just 1 week before the release date.

Maybe the priority for Shark Cards just won't be on top of childrens' wishlists and parents' budgets.

Idk about that, i would say that the majority of shark cards comes from adults. It's not everyone is a rich kid that the parents have so much money that they can create a bank account just for their kid to use it in order to fulfill their own and spoiled demands.

It means it veers away from realism at every turn.  Games like GTAV and RDR2 are just about the closet thing to realism I think you can get in a game and I personally just enjoy these games more.  I’m not trying to disrespect anyone who enjoys games like cyber punk, it’s just not for me.  But who knows maybe I will like it.

Agree, at least it looks like a map that could fit in the game at this point.

Probably this is fake af, but if it was real, damn...look at that city part, it's even smaller than paleto. And taking into account how you can't do much in the wilderness parts of the current map, if this would be the same, then, it would be 95% of the map withouth much things to do after they got explored just to see the nature.

Since the LSSS update the servers don't take so long to make you enter one lobby. PC here.

PC here the load times are the longest they've ever been for me and most of the times "find new session" throws me in the same lobby.

Only Rockstar will have the detailed data to reveal which segments of their player base tend to buy Shark Cards. I recall Zelnick saying in an earnings call earlier this year that they have stats to show that a significant proportion of their repeat customers in GTAO are now in the 30-45 age bracket. He interpreted this to mean that the game has longevity and an appeal even as its earlier players grow older. That might be part of the picture, but I did wonder whether they're missing the prevalence of parents in that age bracket who likely haven't had the time to play on a console for at least the last decade, yet who are pestered by their protesting kids into buying them a shark card to finally shut them up.

I look at it like this - I seriously doubt most of the obnoxious brats buzzing around on MKIIs and destroying everyone's game acquired their hate-stick by grinding the cash. Most of them wouldn't have the attention span.

You can also look at a different statistic: those brats probably are those adult people with dick size complex, and best they can do is making themselves feeling like the thought guy in the lobby then annoying people. I saw some adults in youtube measuring dick sizes about "yo man, look at this nab here in minute 1:25, see how i headshot this bot like a pro? And the guy saying i'm using auto-aim, learn how to play nab!"

It's no wonder the significant portion of MTX buyers is that age IMO. Just look at GTAO these days - full of 12-or-so year olds. But the thing is, those players don't have credit cards. Their parents do.

I also suspect they don't have a "mature patience" to grind for such money. The experience of witnessing their general gameplay strategy and constant dying during heists/contact missions doesn't suggest such a thing either. Then, of course, I remember being a kid myself, always pestering my dad for cash whenever I found something I wanted. I can only imagine the eagerness of wanting to have stuff in online games does the same to kids nowadays.

I highly doubt that statistic speaks for the general playerbase above 20 or so at least. But then again, you should never underestimate men's insecurity about their peckers and its consequences.
