If Rockstar's selection of the podium vehicles factors in a possible release window for the next update, then we may be looking at a possible release window no earlier than December 3rd. And that puts them in a tough spot dealing with Cyberpunk 2077 new release date, which notably poses a threat to their financial strategy.

It's obvious the basic rule of their strategy would be to lure in as many players as possible, new and returning players alike, as that's the focal point Rockstar focused on last year with their record-breaking holiday season. Rockstar is most likely looking forward to achieving another record-breaking holiday season with this "biggest update ever" coming this December, yet if it's scheduled to release in the same week as this year's most anticipated game, I don't see them succeeding much, but I would give them the benefit of the doubt.

To be fair, it's probably not that much of a big deal for them and they would just release it whenever they like.

Gamers won't play Cyberpunk or the new 'biggest ever' GTAO update, they'll play both. Depending on the chronology the average player might spend a few weeks or maybe the whole holiday season mostly playing Cyberpunk, but they will get around to thoroughly checking out the new GTA DLC too.

The real risk is they'll look at the newly-updated yet still highly toxic GTA Online world, compare it to the massively more modern, exciting, less tired-out and fresh-in-memory Cyberpunk experience and think, 'meh' before going back to Cybersprunk.

For GTAO players it might mean they get a lot more kicks and thrills from R* to keep folks' attention. As others have said, real competition is a very good thing indeed and long overdue.

As for us the customers? We're in a brilliant position. December's gonna be brilliant.

CP2077 new release date is possibly just bad news to Rockstar's marketing department, as they specialize on this kind of matter. Which, in contrast, is good news to us if it prompts them to adjust their marketing campaign a little bit.

It's kind of a threat. Cyber Punk is potentially going to release on the same week as the GTAO DLC. A lot of players will be torn between playing that and GTAO.

I'm sure CP2077 isn't a threat to GTA in the big picture. After all, they're two completely different games and it's been said many times that CP2077 isn't a GTA clone.

But still, if it does actually see a December release, then I know where my personal priorities will lie. I've been hyping CP2077 like crazy for a few years now and as much as I love GTA, most of its updates have felt like "just another one" to me. A map expansion is the only thing that would make me go nuts for anything new in GTA again, but it's also a matter of what map that would be. Catalina island? I'd definitely stick with Night City. LC or another city map? I'd have to pull double duties.

Another good question is how long the hype will last for CP2077. Will it settle down or blow over in a few weeks, or does it actually stick around for a while? The timing is perhaps a bit critical for R* indeed. The holidays with new consoles, games and all. Maybe the priority for Shark Cards just won't be on top of childrens' wishlists and parents' budgets.

I would guess it depends on how skilled and agile the CP2077 marketing team is, and how responsive their dev teams can be.

I think we both know which other studio they will be watching, and how absurdly unresponsive their R* competition has been for so many years in terms of comms and outreach.

With a little creativity and energy it's almost an open goal.

I’ll say this, what’ll have people Throwing bones towards cp77 instead of online update If they come out very similar dates is the fact that online as it is now after LSSS is very unstable, severs and FPS are a mess on consoles at  least which are a good bit of the player base

Jokes on anyone thinking Cyberpunk is actually releasing in December lmao.

Actually, jokes on anyone thinking Cyberpunk even exists at this point lol

As much as I love GTA Online, Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely overshadow whatever DLC Rockstar invested in, especially since there is way more marketing for Cyberpunk 2077 rather it's news on delays or tv spots. Unless Rockstar pulls something big out I doubt they will bounce back especially after that troll of a GTA V next gen announcement by Sony earlier this year.

Not sure I agree. Cyberpunk is right up my alley, but it doesn't cater to as broad of an audience as GTA does. Beyond that, Cyberpunk won't have multiplayer for years. Even if Cyberpunk overperforms, it won't put a dent in GTA—especially long term.

I hope R* aren't planning something big. They've gone big already. We need revolutionary. I don't think Online is floundering by any means, but it's not going to grow again until it's properly revitalized. I desperately want to get back on, but I can't find the will to reach for that disc every time I think about it.

I tried playing the other day, got online and just got bored. Never thought the day would of come to me. It's literally nothing new or anything else going on but the same lobby battles, annoying spam of text about my business and grind mode.

GTA Online caters to people with time to kill or content creators. They show people making soccer ⚽ games but that's been done before with the big orange ball.

If it's just a friend of Sam Houser why should he just upload the logo of rockstar? And why rockstar repost his stories?
Maybe they are announcing some kind of cooperation?
I think we got Circoloco Radio in next update
I foresee a post about Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar logo red because Circoloco has red brand color.

Who cares about that unrealistic game being delayed anyways.  Just my opinion. Try not to get triggered. ;)

Unrealistic game? What does that even mean? That's some galaxy brain content right there.

Believe it or not, we're inching closer to a dark cyberpunk dystopia and (fake) China is the closest thing to a real life dystopia 😉

It means it veers away from realism at every turn.  Games like GTAV and RDR2 are just about the closet thing to realism I think you can get in a game and I personally just enjoy these games more.  I’m not trying to disrespect anyone who enjoys games like cyber punk, it’s just not for me.  But who knows maybe I will like it.

Do tell.

Cybernetic enhancements are almost a real thing. Look at Elon Musk's Neuralink. Boston Dynamics and their mechanical dogs. Robotic limbs such as replacement arms. Corporations getting away with sh*t. Class disparity. Mass surveillance/spying. Those are peak cyberpunk. Not even unrealistic lol.

You really compare a ubisoft game with a CDPR game?

Some of those road segments look slightly altered from some of the v map roads...

Delay is a good thing since if people are busy with 2077 they will have less time to make money and buy a money card to make up for it.

If R* was worried about other games releasing, they would actually have to release new games and worth more than 10 hours of playtime for a new dlc.

If anything the only competition they are worried about is if it affects there micros sales. Those buying them will easily buy them and a full priced new game.

Yup. If you look on the upper left corner you can clearly see traces of a cutting or an eraser tool. A for effort though. Also, anyone with the name "Rockstar Employee" should never be taken seriously.

Agree, at least it looks like a map that could fit in the game at this point.

True lol, but maybe the marketing team decided to start leaking info now that Cyberpunk moved their date, so it really is a Rockstar Employee 🤔😂

Nah its surly fake.
- If you zoom in enough you can see he used parts of GTA V map to make it.
- the obvious "let me stick a gtao logo on it so it looks more legit." they always do. If he was actually leaking something, there would be no point of putting that logo in the corner.
- and the logo he used, its the same fan made HD version you get from google images. But its not the original used by R*

And on top of that, we have no clue what the new color scheme is for the new minimap/map. For all we know it's going to be full color again like the previous ones. I sure hope so. the GTA 5 minimap since PS4/XboxOne/PC is very bland color wise.

Well it suppose to be a "leak" for gtaonline update. So the color scheme would still be exactly the same.

But if you talking about GTA VI map, sure. They probably gonna change it.
