I personally never understood why they placed huge mountains on the map, but not a single village onto it, which makes the mountains kind of pointless.

For me its the Grand Senora Desert lacking, well, the desert. After seeing how San Andreas had what seemed like such a vast desert landscape across Venturas and Bone County for as small of a map it was, I was let down when I saw how small the "desert" was in GTA 5. There were canyons, rock formations, and numerous off-road trails through the dunes to explore with ghost towns; the GSD feels too claustrophobic in that we can cross it in 8 seconds. I get there are other places to off-road trail like the Chiliad Forrest and Mountains and the detail there is amazing, I just wish the desert had that same treatment.

I know I have said this before, but I very seriously doubt GTA V will get an entire land mass like a new city or something. I believe that if that were going to happen, it would have been several years ago, not in the 8th year of the game's existence, with GTA VI somewhere probably on the not-too-distant horizon. It would almost be laughable if they did, to be honest. Because if GTA VI were to launch, say in 2022 or 2023, then I believe that be that the most memorable fact that fans and critics would remember about GTA V was the fact that Rockstar put a huge ton of money and resources into something that, once its out, everyone will be saying, "Wow? Took you 7+ years to do this?" because, then...what? a year later they announce GTA VI and then V has an official expiration date?

Don't fans think Rockstar would be sort of a laughing stock if they released a new city or even a reiteration of an old city into the game literally right before V is ready to start winding down?

I could see some SMALL island with maybe mansions and a new heist location. Something along the lines and small size of Big Surf Island, which Criterion released late in the lifespan of Burnout Paradise. But not a full city, Maybe a little island off one of the coasts or something, no more than about 1/2 mile long and wide.

For the contrary. You need to keep in mind that GTA VI will blow the sh*t out of everything we ever seen before (probably...and hopefully). Releasing GTA V in the next gen in 2021 means that the game will stay at least more 2-3 years in the zone. Not to mention that fact do not mean that they can't portrait the new map expansion or expansions that they will do in GTA Online to GTA 6, including LS itself. The way i see this, gta online getting a stand alone version, almost points that the future of GTA Online will be a massive RPG that will have everything included from the SP GTA titles from now on. Probably GTA VI will not come with a GTA Online counterpart bcz GTA Online will be a GTA title itself and not attached to a SP title.

The only thing that ruined the dripfeed was knowing what was in the dripfeed.

(and to be clear this is on rockstar)

how is it on Rockstar?  they don't announce the dripfeed, the only way one could see it first is by actively seeking out the datamines

Is that really the case?
I cannot speak for other people, but for me LC in GTAIV felt really complete, I personally never seriously missed any countryside in this game because the story and everything around it was well centered about that setting.
GTA V on the other hand always felt incomplete for me, because it was basically based around the city and rarely around some villages.
Most of the time, you had to kind of drive or fly between these points through empty like loveless designed areas that really had little destails.
I always suspected they were really limited due the consoles, the result for me personally was that I never really felt the typical atmosphere that I had experienced before in games made by R*.
Take GTA SA as example, even today its general atmosphere catches me way more than GTA V honestly, I loved it to move between the cities experiencing the villages, which had each for itself its own charme.
Although the map was overall much smaller, it kind of made me feel to move in a whole state, a feeling that GTA V never was able to create for me.
I personally never understood why they placed huge mountains on the map, but not a single village onto it, which makes the mountains kind of pointless.

So my opinion, which is shared by a lot of friends:
Although countryside in GTA IV might have been cool, it did very well fit to the story, the way they designed it only around a city, while in GTA V, a lot of the map looks very obviously like a placeholder and has no purpose, which gets boring very quickly.

GTA IV had a solid map for the story itself. I agree with you on that, but sometimes i felt a little bit claustrophobic due the fact that bcz the simple reason the city was full of buildings, made the streets be compartimentalized in squares, tall buildings that dont let you get a sunny ambience and a view in the horizon, streets full of traffic signals that wouldn't let you have an highway to cruise in your fast cars, etc.

The problem you mentioned about the countryside of V's don't having a lot or nothing to do (you have the yellow jack inn in the middle of the desert, that have a billiard pool just for the looks and despair of players =/ ), is bcz we don't have almost any free roam interiors to go. Console limitations? Probably, but that's a mistake that R* now knows that they don't need to do. Bcz the game went to the old gen almost in the end of it's life span was just to get the maximum profit possible (to buy the game twice)...only if they knew what GTA Online would become they wouldn't do that, bcz of what they thought would be a good idea back then, turns out that it limitated the game and people felt that from the moment that we knew GTA Online would stay here for quite some years, yet, would be feeling as an old game with old mechanics which only made R* start to provide fresh stuff only in the last like 1-2 years (basically new and functional interactive interios like casino and arcades).

GTA SA, was a game that was way beyond it's time. It was amazing what they did there. Any place of the map didn't felt empty. You had a lot of stuff to do, each small region, would have at least a food chain spot to visit. xD And they got three main cities that were totally different from each others with different environments and things to do. And i don't feel the map was so small, at least if you would take a land vehicle, you would be like: "sh*t...i'm in los santos and i need to go to san fierro...damn!" 😛

Edit: and the forest in SA seemed deep and spooky, even with those 3D era graphics.

Also I think I’ve said it before here but one of the things for me that gets mad hype for the update is the artwork for it, I’ve always loved the style

Speaking of artwork, I hope they gonna promote it with similar posters:

And looking at those, man I hope we gonna get more amphibious aircrafts. We know there was a new version of Sea Sparrow that was cut from Summer Special so they probably gonna give us that. But I really hope there's more.

Maybe PBY Catalina? That could be a neat little reference to the real life location

Or maybe a plane from TaleSpin since they look similar.

It's good ideas for special abilities of those melee weapons, but hopefully R* made them with a switch. Maybe some people don't like that. The tomahawk have that trevor's ability that i find very annoying with all that f*ckery happening to your screen.

About the long posts, got that. I was just lazy to go back and edit it. 😂

What this could mean for GTA V/Online?

Well...

1. DMA Design have reclaimed the homeland.

2. It's a f'ing investment and a half given the game development success stories that come out of Abertay University, a literal 10 minute walk away from Ruffian/R* Dundee. (For anyone not familiar, it's not The University of Dundee, it's up the road and to the right, on Bell Street).

No chance I'll be one of those stories, why did I opt for pre-rendered animation when R* are following me around the country?!

Promotional pictures saved. Man these are vintage and beautiful. To be honest I personally can see then considering Catalina Island as part of the game’s fun comes from sightseeing.

I'm surprised the acquisition isn't being talked about more. I'm not sure how or who was running gta0, but I'm hoping a new studio will have a less aggressive approach to monetization.

God I hope so.

less aggressive than selling virtual currency you can buy anything you want with?  it's not like they have loot boxes or even an MTX store, their model is about the least aggressive MTX model ANY game has.

that's still not aggressive, sure the in game prices and the SC values could be adjusted, but virtual currency is still the least aggressive MTX model anywhere

also the amount that gets you one VW is also enough to get almost any one business up and running, not to mention you can earn the MTX in game without spending a dime, it's not perfect but it is far from the most aggressive, or even mildly aggressive

That's not quite how that works...

It's ridiculously too early to say what the Dundee division will be tasked with handling, but you better believe the location was a MAJOR factor in the acquisiton. A lot of students who move to Dundee for attending Abertay University, quite often end up staying after graduating due to the amount of indie game studios Dundee has. By Rockstar planting their flag there, my guess is that R* Dundee will serve as a sort of extension of R* North, and become much easier to acquire new & fresh talent. The housing market in Edinburgh is an infamously overpriced nightmare, especially for students just out of Uni and looking to get their career started. Dundee? A very different story, and only an hour and a half to 2 hour drive on the motorway from Edinburgh, so definitely not bad for execs and meetings and the like (...once current global affairs pass, of course...).

Idk I prefer the pve fun and fair and the pvp more balanced, and not geared towards failure or adding multiple factors you can't control, especially if you're paying for the privilege of running a business. It not be aggressive, it's underhand

I swear I've read confirmation of Dundee handling Gta online. Again not sure who's doing it now but I guess its too early to tell

I never said the game was perfectly balanced, just that the MTX are not aggressive, no lootboxes, no MTX store, virtual currency you can spend on anything AND earn in game without spending a dime, it's literally the best implementation of MTXs ever, even if it isn't perfect, but then what is?

I generally agree with that, although the desert in GTA V had at least some details that were kind of interesting.

The mountains on the other hand, what do they have? One has this ski type lift, everything else they have are sightseeing platforms, despite being the biggest mountains as far I know ever created in a GTA game.
After having played the singleplayer, I deeply thought it was a missed opportunity, remembering the feeling of GTA SA after leaving los santos, which was like, hell, where the hell I am (seeing this huge mountain in the background)?

Well, but is it not that what New York mainly is about?
Niko never really made his way up to the high society, so I cannot really see why he should drive (or been flown XD) to the hamptons fe.
When I think about, having country side, that might have caused areas as well that would not be really used in that setting around niko.

I agree with everything you say about GTA SA, it was obviously my most favourite GTA, followed by GTAIV and Vice City.

I personally really hope they bring liberty city to GTA Online, although I think the probability is near zero: To much effort, that causes to many challenges itself and simply not worth it from their point of view.

Further, I hope they will kind of go back to their roots, by that I mean simply creating a convincing atmosphere with all its means and that they get rid of that multi character system, I do extremely dislike it because it gives you this kind of third person narrator view on the story instead of allowing you to really identify with the character you play.

Um... your previous post clearly mentioned a city and the whole island of Oahu. Which is obviously way to big for a free update.  But now you cherry picked two pictures that look the same, empty fields. So whats the difference? The color of the mountains? You do realize they can change that if they want and make it look more tropical, right? It dosn't have to be a perfect copy. As said earlier, R* always combines different locations.

Like I said, you don't read between the lines here, or possibly what I'm saying at all.

If they made Los Santos, a city based off of the second largest city in the US, as small as it is, then what do you think I expect them to make out of a hypothetical O'ahu-based location? Certainly not a new map the size of SA.

So no, judged by the scales between the two (LA vs. O'ahu) in real life, I really don't think it's way too big. In real life, the entire island of O'ahu is only marginally bigger than the city of Los Angeles. So in theory, if R* would add O'ahu and stick to realistically converted scales in-game, their take on O'ahu would roughly be the same size to that of Los Santos. Still way too big? I don't think so.

And what's the difference in the two photos I posted? The environment, the whole ecosystem looks different. O'ahu obviously looks more Asian/South American whereas Catalina lookes closer to, well, California.

If they do a map expansion in the current gen, there's almost no excuse to not do that in the nex gen. If people get a map expansion os a "small" island, they will ask R* more map expansions. And probably liberty city will be in the front line. It's not hard to do, just polish the map a litle bit to make through the graphic standards of today. They even probably have been working in LC since some years, taking their sweet time without any stress or dead lines.

I like to have 2 character, i like to wash the views with my female character from time to time. xD

I am not a game developer, but honestly, the work alone to port liberty city with everything which lead to the great feeling the city had seems immense, not to mention things that would have to be added , fe. Races, Missions, to make sure that not everything feels empty.

With the multiple characters, i specifically meant the singleplayer really. In gta online, you dont have to have a second character if you dont like, so ot doesnt bother me really.

If they really want to expand the map, increase "the island" in size by about 25% by putting San Fierro north of Paleto.

The game can barely get above 15 FPS on PS4 when inside the Casino lol, I highly doubt they would add a new city considering the FPS has been slowly getting worse and worse with each update.

It's more realistic to believe mansions are coming or at the very least a mini island like the one on Vice City before a new city, I think a new city would be added on the PS5/XBox Series X though because higher graphics and more FPS alone are not enough incentive to justify getting the game a third/fourth time, otherwise it'll just be the PC version on console.

Then in that regard i have the same opinion. Split the story btw 3 characters means less depth in each one. Their stories arent bad, notice that it's the first time R* did something that. But, you have less development of the characters...for instances making franklin the killer of trevor or michael felt very out of place and makes you hate the character. To me the way they portraited franklin's story they lacked to give us more background of his life as a hood gangster and i'm meaning in terms of missions etc, he almost made the jump instantanly from a repo guy who lives in the hood for a guy with a mansion that became a bank robber. Take CJ doe example, his story goes in a crescendo with each stage having deep dilemas of character and personality.

Maybe the saying that it will be the "biggest update ever".
