I gotta be completely honest the more I think about the December update the more me convinced we are getting an island based on Santa Catalina. It just makes so much sense. 
 

They called it the biggest update ever and said it’s in a “new location”. They also said it will be heist related. I can’t see any way it’s not an island. It won’t be Liberty city or another city like some speculated. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to do that with PS5 right around the corner.

 

I think it’s an island with heists that’s involve robbing the most powerful man on the island or something of that ilk.

Adding LC would make sense because they are adding online to PS5. Its a way to fill the gap before GTA 6 is even mentioned to be released and boost shark sales. .

It stems from the fact that they promised Heists (which were just higher paying contact missions with non-versus teams back then) would come a mere 2 weeks after Online launched as well as Story DLC to follow the release of the game, but all we were getting were those updates with absolutely no news on either the Story DLC nor Heists, but a bunch of basic civilian vehicles to buy with the good ways of making money only being;

- High Level Contact Missions

- Races (Street Races, not Stunt Races)

- Bounties

- Armoured Trucks

 

This is when it took days in the average working day just to afford a car without a Sharkcard, 2016 truly changed things with Businesses. There was a time when if you had a Bounty on you, EVERYONE in the lobby would come after you... now it's just the mark of someone who got chosen by a Tryhard, who are dicks anyway.

I lean towards this as well. Let's not forget they're making Online independent. Why cut off the single player campaign from the game if they're not adding something really big to Online?

 

Seven years is a long time for a game. To create further longevity for this game something needs to be done. One and the same map for seven years, it's ridiculous. I think next gen is the ticket to fix just that.

I completely agree. There was always a hint by the Houser brothers and Leslie Benzies that they wanted to make a GTA where players could visit all the locations in one open world concept along with the addition of new cities. Even though Benzies is gone, there is no reason the idea had to leave too. I say they are making Online independent as an attempt to re-spark this interest and the first obvious city to start with is Liberty. And when GTA 6 is announced and complete, that map would be also added to Online. I fully believe this is what is happening; the technology is there to make it happen.

Not really into the open wheel cars. Or most supercars for that matter. So hopefully with dripfeed I’ll be in the clear. 
 

I know on the newswire they mentioned over a dozen cars. I wonder if that’s day one with dripfeed or in total. Only time will tell I guess

They are cutting single player because the online will be free. They still want you to buy full game for single player. And if that works, we might see similar model with GTA6.

Cutting down on install-size so they can push a bunch more DLC, at one point the game was bigger then 100gb, recently somehow they lowered it, cutting away sp will lower it further, giving them (idk random guess) maybe another 50gb of room to grow on consoles. (edit: not saying them cutting away sp means 50gb of the install size will vanish btw, more like at the very best they might be able to lower it to 75gb install size and then are allowed to go till 125gb on consoles? just guessing numbers here)

Also they dont want GTA:Online to die when GTA6 does come, just imagine the fact that GTA6:Online wont have 7 years worth of additional content, people (read: entitled kids) would be furious, this way they can keep people entertained/keep the GTA:Online cashcow going while also starting a new GTA6:Online some time soon

Still. With the current periods of updates (every six months) a lot of people should have more than enough time to recover what they spent.

I currently sit at $92 Mil in the bank.

Although I spend next to nothing on the last update, was at $87 Mil back then.

I’m 99.9% certain they’re not adding Catalina Island.

but IF they do, I hope the town is based more on Long Beach than Avalon, because I want to be able to recreate the LBGP circuit. Hope they also add a second 9 hole links-style golf course based on Pebble Beach Golf Links, and a grass tennis court. Other than that, the ability to go on secluded hikes into the hills of the island, and drift around on the twisty roads there. There’s no good representation of the iconic Mulholland Drive in the game, so they could put something like it on the island.
