Modding wasn't in the picture. Unless you mean actually getting into the systems files somehow.  It was a legit feature that was going to allow CJ to wash his cars that he came up on. Just like with the ability to buy furniture for CJ's house, the idea was scrapped due to PS2's limitations. There's a short glimps of what the car wash could have been in the mission Reuniting the Families where Carl yells out to Smoke about having soap in his eyes, lol.

How would car washes be a limitation? I could make a cleo script simple enough to do that!

the car wash was cut because it seemed like a hassle to go to certain places that WERENT marked on the map when your car got dirty.

tho it wouldve been a nice detail, it seems kinda bothersome in the way

Who's to say that there wouldn't have been a carwash marker, or even that the carwash was legitimately going to be ingame to begin with?

This was a PS2 game at the time that was exclusively made for the systems engine. Everything was focused on PS2's engine and just like V with the PS3 and X360 R* wanted to push the limits of what the PS2 could achieve for such a large game. They had a ton of ideas that were removed. Brings more discussions for the beta topics. R* were already exceeding hardware limitations by SA having three large cities packed with some neat details that make all three unique game wise. PC and Xbox was miles ahead from PS2's hardware which is the reason SA on PC can get ultra packed with mods if one wanted to.  I still think to this day if the game originally released say PC and Xbox only there could have been distinct possibilities that we could have seen from removed beta features. @rodie beta researcher post brings even more light to as the reasons why it may have been removed.

So it's kind of a stretch to assume that the car washes wouldn't have markers instead of asking yourself whether or not car washes would've been ingame to begin with and, if so, what proof there would be

to be fair, i do believe they wouldve been in the game, but i think they were removed halfway through cause they were like "lol nvm thats pointless" so they removed it when it was ingame, but it didnt have icons yet.

I think some actual evidence like previews, leftover files, etc would be more of a valid source than "I think XYZ"

well theres the fact that theres open car washes all around the states (with actual props in them), there was a car wash that had much more detail on it in the beta, the leftover during reuniting the families etc etc.

Same with Vice City, but I don't see you or anyone else saying that it was supposed to be functional.

It wouldn't surprise me if they got rid of some of the extra detail due to performance issues or something else. Especially considering that other carwashes have props in them

Idk man I don't think something that happens in a mission is any proof of a leftover beta feature. That's like saying that you would be able to hijack planes from the air during regular gameplay just because of "Freefall"

Idk man I don't think something that happens in a mission is any proof of a leftover beta feature. That's like saying that you would be able to hijack planes from the air during regular gameplay just because of "Freefall"

i made a topic about that, i can give you link, the topic talks about removed liberty city islands map and DLC system and vice city map

There was a big compound interior that looks like it would have been for slash TV rampage just like the one from GTA LCS
