Mouse turning off?

Since I installed RDR2/Online, I've been having a strange thing happening.  I'll be going along just fine, usually for hours, then suddenly my mouse will stop working for a couple of seconds.  I'll then get the sound the computer makes when a device is connected, and the mouse returns to normal.  It doesn't do it ALL the time, but frequently enough to be puzzling.

 

I had thought it was doing it only in RDR2, but it HAS done it once outside of the game.  It's done it MANY times IN the game... so I'm uncertain if it's a problem with the game or not.  I looked online to see if there was any solution to this, and it was suggested I go to Device Manager, then USB Root Hub, and under the Power Management properties, uncheck the box that lets windows turn off the device to save power.  However, it still did it again tonight.

 

I'm not all that computer savvy, so if anyone has any ideas... I'm open to suggestions.
