Do you enjoy driving?

I really do not. I want to, but I don't think I ever will. There's too much responsibility involved and it only takes a split second for everything to go fatally wrong. I don't get any sense of freedom out of driving. If anything it is another ball and chain for me. I drive on my 30 second commute to work and back, and sometimes to the grocery store, but thats pretty much it. I don't ever want to take any long trips because I'm afraid my car will break down, or get stolen. I like being in my car and listening to music, but I don't actually like driving it.

But how about you? I'm sure I'm in the minority here.

You're absolutely in a minority and I would go as far as to suggest you might be an active hazard to other road users due to your attitude.

With a thirty second commute it doesn't really sound like driving is any kind of necessity for you, or even convenience, so I don't understand why you'd expose yourself to undue stress and something you clearly find actively displeasurable.

It's a shame you don't enjoy driving, it's not for everyone I suppose. There can be a variety of different factors that contribute to your lack of driving enjoyment; the way your were taught, lack of experience, general anxiety, environmental factors. If I were you I'd attend a proper driving school with a good teacher that could help you improve your confidence on the road - a confident driver is generally a safer driver.

People who don't enjoy driving are often not very good drivers. It's like anything, the more you enjoy it the better you are at it.

I had hoped I would enjoy the same things that other people enjoy about driving.

I thoroughly enjoy driving, whether it's my run of the mill brand new Vitara, my beat to sh*t BMW 328i (which broke down completely exactly a year ago today) or my LS400.

Yeah I like driving. I've done a lot of it lately since this damn Chinese virus screwed up everything.

Wrong car maybe? I enjoy driving, but there exist cars I wouldn't like to drive, this is not matter of price or engine power; you're not alone though.

As long as the lovely wife is not in the passenger seat, yes, I enjoy driving.  :)

I have a company vehicle for work, so I don't get to drive my personal vehicle much these days. It's just an old '01 Bullitt GT, but I love getting any chance to drive it.

When I was single and gas was cheaper, I would just go driving. My car is a five speed and it has a short throw shifter, so I might have visions of Steve McQueen bouncing around in my head, lol.

I absolutely love going for a long drive somewhere and taking the long way back home. I've got a big SUV so it's not super fun compared to a much more nimble car and it does burn through gas at a fast rate but I enjoy it.

I just find it tiring, stressful and irritating. I don't find performing a task that has the potential to kill me relaxing. I want to have fun with it, I really do, but I make up excuses to not drive places (been putting off even buying groceries now), and am extremely stressed out when I do drive.

How DOES one confront someone who should not be driving? I ran into a couple of friends of mine that I was going to meet later anyway, so I hitched a ride to the lake where we were going dipping - and I made a joke amongst the driver's... choppy driving, to which she replied "Yeah sorry about that, his directions confuse me because I don't really know left from right" - what the hell does one say to that? Needless to say, I walked home.

I only just got some lessons from a family member recently.  I really enjoy it but after driving in a public area, I definitely see why you might get some anxiety and the responsibility that comes with a car.

The frustrating thing for me is like anything when you start off and you are the novice. Getting used to chaning gears isn't too bad but playing games thought me to sequentially go up and down. So trying to stop in a short space, I was going down the gears squentially. I didn't realise I could skip down. I wish I could just jump to the part where I'm confident and capable. I do enjoy the sense of freedom it will offer me. I'm a photographer and love to fly drones so I should have got a car and license a long time ago. But where I lived, I used to be a 10 minute walk to work and 20 min walk to the city centre. I never really needed a car. I don't think I was responsible enough as a person to own in my 20's anyway. But now, I would like to. I'm not the type to get angry. I might get bouts of nervousness but that's fine.

When it comes to having the responsibility of controlling something that can kill someone, I think it's big. I wouldn't be the risky type on the road. Perhaps it's better I'm starting as a more "mature" driver.

If you only have a 30 second commute to your work you should buy a moped or a scooter. Sell your car and save yourself some money.

Yes, I do.

I cannot wait to take a road trip to my family's mountainous vacation house that is 1000+ km from where I'm. Music, podcasts and refreshing drinks all the way!

Damn man such a nice car and you don't like driving, if you're scared of someone stealing or crashing into it then I can understand it a little now. Wouldn't want some asshat to steal or crash into my E38 7 series if I had one.

I do not find it to be an ideal first car, despite what the little old lady who sold it to me said.

Driving a car in a field isn't really "learning to drive", car control only a very small portion of what learning to drive constitutes and to be honest you learn far more of it in your first year after passing your test then you ever do before.
