4eyedcoupe
Servers in RDO are WAY worse than GTA...I hope you like being disconnected. And honestly, if you aren't buying this game for story mode, save yourself the $. Story mode is incredible, online not as much....One needs to look no further than the bitch and moan thread. With that said, I still enjoy the game from time to time, but it needs some serious work. kcole4001, Lonely-Martin, CosmicBuffalo and 3 others 5
CosmicBuffalo
Spoiler Imagine GTAO on the 360/PS3 without mod menues...the online mode has not generated the type of revenue needed to support the game like GTAO did, and its currently dying on the vine. Imagine cars not spawning while you are riding around in GTAO or having no npc pedestrians walking around on their phones shouting obscenities untill you mow them down with your car....Just a barren shell...that's how its been since last year. The online servers are no better...they implemented an edge server system and in my opinion was mainly done to prevent solo lobbies...its still p2p with all the same b.s. of gtao. Single Player is best activity. Lonely-Martin and Direwrath
No Homing
I agree this game suffers way more from the P2P system than gtao does. kcole4001, Lonely-Martin and Direwrath
Lonely-Martin
This game makes GTA:O look positively perfect, lol. Ok, I'm overstating it a bit, both are deeply flawed and in need of real TLC from R*. But GTA:O is a very old game created for a very old console and it's absolutely loaded with content, while RDRO is significantly newer and and made for this generation of console and it's already as bad as GTA:O on it's worst days, if not worse considering how little content and how much of it feels compromised or is compromising the game overall. Once this game gets to a stage like GTA:O with numerous DLC's added, it feels we get closer and closer to the game going 'pop' and that'll be it. As Jigsaw would say: 'Game Over' The real ace in the sleeve GTA:O has is the freedom of choice it has still. Be it invite/crew only lobbies, solo public (legitimate or otherwise as it can happen naturally without needing to change internet settings etc), freeaim lobbies, and a general public lobby. At least with GTA:O we have the control to minimise any issues much better to suit us. It's staggering just how a near decade old game can hold up this much better than one released so recently compared. That said, as shown on this section of the forums, there's a few that keep on trucking and try to enjoy their game of it still which I can respect. But for me, the idea of literally playing the lottery of either winning (having fun) or losing (wasting far too much time to battle all that plagues this game) just isn't worth it in my opinion. I log on to play games, not reload or change sessions all evening. Direwrath and kcole4001
Mik73
From a 'Game and gameplay stability' standpoint, I can say with decent authority from my hundreds (gawd...thousands?) of hours playing GTAO compared to my time playing RDO - Red Dead Online, in it's current state, is categorically less stable in many fundamental areas. Whether it's just launching in to the game (usually reliable, but I've been seeing R* server errors trying to join session more frequently), to entering/exiting or launching missions from the one, and only, purchasable property - The Moonshine shack. Or approaching, interacting, launching missions or spawning your vitally important Camp. Or launching Bounty Hunter missions from a common 'bounty board' in towns. Many core game features can crash your game, disconnect you from R* servers, or otherwise leave your avatar in an unstable state, incapable of interacting with your environment or the game UI. I've see many more errors in RDO in the past few months then I saw over years playing GTAO, in all honesty. I never had to cross my fingers and hope that when I walked up to my Office, apartment, warehouse, Nightclub, etc that I would actually end up inside. Or that launching a 'Sell mission' wouldn't crash the game, lock me up or just fail to start at all. Things just worked, for myself and my crew members. Now if you are talking about the PvP elements to RDO vs GTAO. The ability of other players to make your life a living hell on a consistent basis? No, for all it's issues with this so-so 'Defensive Mode', griefers, wonky weapon balances, and so forth. When it comes to the 'Rockstar Hive of Scum and Villiany' quotient: GTAO has RDO beat by a country mile. There's still every chance you'll have rough encounters, but on a minute-by-minute basis, on a mission-by-mission basis, you are orders of magnitude 'safer' going about your business in Red Dead then you are in GTAO public lobbies. Part of that is the slower-paced nature of the game, and the attempt at R* to put in anti-griefer measures like 'defensive mode', Parley, and hiding player blips until they get close. It's not what it should be, to be honest, but it does cut down on the casual stupidity quite a bit. It's just a little more challenging for PvP-oriented players to go about their business in this game. But a determined Posse or player can interfere with you and slow down some of your progress. Having said that...GTAO had easy-to-spawn 'private' lobbies to avoid any chance of other players interfering with you. R* have designed RDO to make it much more difficult to 'glitch' yourself a private lobby. And there are no GTAO style 'Invite Only' sessions to retreat to for a breather. You are going to be in heavily populated lobbies more often then not. And the percentage of aggressive, devil-may-care ride-by shooters has gone up dramatically since Covid-19 chased everyone indoors. So the general 'threat level' of day-to-day life in RDO has trended in the GTAO direction. But GTAO is still king when it comes to the intergalactic Gong Show that is public free roam if you are just trying to get from 'Point A' to 'Point B' to accomplish something. There are no Oppressor's in the game...yet. kcole4001, Lonely-Martin, Direwrath and 2 others

There are no Oppressor's in the game...yet. Agreed on all points, well said. A couple of addendum: A hostile posse can easily ruin your day, but a would be griefer who thinks he's badass and takes on a relatively small but capable posse can have his ass handed to him and embarassed into leaving the session quite easily. There are no instant win buttons like in GTA, no lock on missiles to ruin your sale, the griefer still has to be able to aim, though with dynamite arrows it's not hard to hit a wagon, countering with the same is equally easy, you just have to be faster, or with a posse, act in a coordinated manner. It's still easy to grief in RDO, just much harder to get away with it. There are ways to achieve solo or 'invite' sessions, they vary depending on platform, but are fairly easy. The random hair trigger knuckleheads seem to be more prevalent on console, but on PC you also have to factor in cheaters (those using various mod menus) who totally ruin a session, the only solutions are to either switch session and hope you don't run into another (works 99% of the time) or tweak yourself into a solo or invite session. During these solo or very low player count sessions, the various broken features of the game work beautifully, it's really hard to believe that it's even the same game, it's that big of a difference.
