If you could start over with a fresh clean slate: What advice or tips would you give the earlier cowpoke you?  How would you play the game differently?

Run!

Run far, run fast.

That or wait a few years before expecting a game. ;)

I didn't rush through RDO, I tried to take my time as much as possible but I would still tell myself to slow down and take EVEN MORE TIME to complete everything or just go play a different game instead of completing everything RDO had to offer. But I wanted to play Red Dead 2 so bad I just kept on playing it even in between Updates when there was nothing to do, and the consequence was an obvious one. Everything was completed, and now R* can't keep up with the Updates, so I'm stuck with a sh*t ton of Gold Bars and RDO$ and I have NOTHING to spent it on AND I find absolutely no joy in playing RDO anymore.. RDO feels more like a daily chore than a video game now, but that is in large part due to Take-Two/R* for doing little to nothing with RDO.

Play more patiently for sure... There isn't too much content, so when you rush through it you can quickly run out of things to do. I'd definitely take it easy.

Don't buy the regular binoculars of you have even the slightest inkling to upgrade to the Refined Binocs.

I‘d just live the easy life without any obligations in freeroam and would play showdowns to pay for expenses. Especially for lowlevels it‘s the fastest way to level up and earn cash and gold, if you‘re at least half-good.

don't customize your first GOOD revolver like you'd never use another one again.....because eventually you'll never use said first GOOD revolver again.....well, sometimes...for nostalgia sake!

Sell the game right after finishing the campaign. Online is, and always has been, a waste.

That was the benefit of having to wait for PC release: I was well primed before hand and prepared from having watched many guides and just as importantly many live streams of the game.

The only thing I would have changed was to not try to make my own hand written lists of collectible locations from painstakingly watching GTA Series videos on the subject.

I spent hours, didn't actually finish, and that was only for the ones you can collect before owning the shovel or metal detector, so just cards, eggs, and bottles.

Still, it gave me a serious appreciation of the work those vids took to research and make, and a profound admiration of the work done by those responsible for the collector map and all it's myriad updates.

Honestly, not enough credit is given (and I'm well aware of how well respected in the community they are) for the absolutely immense amount of work it took to make these resources and even more importantly maintain them.

If you've ever tried to make your own notes, even back when there were only 3 daily cycles, you'll realize just a glimpse of how much work was involved.

I did start fresh when I moved from PS4 to PC. What I did differently was to not play it after I completed the introduction. Worked out great because I have not experienced any of the problems the game has.

So I did just restart this week, or started another account really.  I plan on keeping it as simple as possible and stick to spending as little $ as possible.  I'm going to run with just a single cattleman and a carbine for a while and NOT purchase ammo, I will get it all from looting or freebies from R*.  I will allow myself to get a bow and I'm going to have to buy arrows.  Other than that I will buy minimal clothing and I won't purchase horse until I can purchase a Turkoman or top tier Norfolk Roadster(just my personal preference at the moment).  This is going to be my "nothing better to do" account, something to keep me busy in game for when it gets stale like it's current state.  So, my advice to myself was to make sure I got decent clothing at the start of the game, mostly for cold weather because cold weather stuff seems to unlock later.  I did the first mission three times before I was satisfied.  I ended up with a Cayuga hat, leather jacket, union shirt, and outdoors man vest.  It would be nice to make it 10 GB's this week to take advantage of the 5GB's off of the price, But I don't know which Role I should get first.   I don't use the collectors map and don't really plan to, but I'm not ruling out that role because you find so much stuff naturally.  The only one that pays gold is bounty hunter, but cash pay isn't great.  With nice weather coming, I won't be signing on everyday to keep a steak alive, so I'm somewhat considering that one just for the gold income.  Eh, I'm only at 3GBs right now so I have a ways to go to make that decision I guess.

On day two of account I was called a cheater by @Rosay2493 🤣🤣

well the plan i started with on day one has been working. save money and gold. and only buy stuff that you really want or need. i would say that i wish i could have kept some of the friends i made along the way. we got into arguments and stopped playing. its sad because right now i have nobody to play with. if i could have handled it better. i might still have those friends. other than that im doing well.

I wouldn't.

I remember having no motivation in the beginning because it was such a slog and all the stuff I wanted was locked behind obscene levels walls. Level ninety for Leather Pants? f*ck off. Then as time passed all the stuff locked behind levels was released with a different colour, jacked up price and no level lock.

Only way I would start over is if my unlocks carried over to the new character.

I have buyer's remorse over a couple of the roles that I don't find enjoyable. In general I would just buy a lot less if I restarted.

I would tell myself to enjoy the first playthrough of SP but don't bother with a second... cus honestly there's not that much meat on the gameplay even though it's a great story.

And I would tell my self to stay away from online, because it would never get any better than the sad sh*t we got in beta.

Actually I would probably just tell myself:

It's not even better than GTA V or GTAO.

Don’t pay €30 extra for the UE version of this game. Better yet, wait for the game to go on sale and grab a copy cheap. Play the story mode and never ever ever dabble into Online.

I'd like to think I'd make different choices. Be more honorable. Not just kill law so much, not get all those $1500 bounties and spend all your hard earned gold bars money paying those bounties.

The vast majority of skill cards are utterly useless. In pvp headshots are an one shot kill with a varmint rifle from a mile away. Even if you use hunker down or never without one. Don't bother buying and upgrading them.

Body shots are extremely castrated. Like in the Matrix I have emptied entire clips in enemies and they just laugh it off. And then I get headshot with a single bullet. At least the enemy should be temporarily disabled. R* devs must be smoking some heavy stuff.

Focus on a few essentials, like paint it black, unblinking eye and Landon's patience for hunting.

Don't listen to the YouTube experts about what is useful or not. Unfortunately you have to find it out yourself. I found the ability card "Live for the fight" extremely useful, as it slowly refills deadeye. The argument against it was that dead eye tonics refill your deadeye quicker. I found myself disconnected a lot or some bug forced me to change sessions. I was spending a lot of time crafting deadeye potions.

Most horses will buck you off and run off to the next state if there is only a hint of trouble.

The Turkoman will flop his head all the time from left to right. It was driving me mad.

M=

Only the Breton and Criollo are reasonably mentally OK. Send the rest to the glue factory.

Only the Nacogdoches saddle is worth the money. The rest is not worth any money.

Buy the Springfield rifle and the rolling block rifle. The rifles are reloaded by your avatar automatically. The Carcano and bolt action rifle will only be reloaded if you press the left trigger.

Simply put, don't spend a dime on clothing or making your guns fancy or anything cosmetic. Just upgrade time to time and save , I spent way too much buying clothing and trying guns I never even use . Luckily I learned early but still purchases like camp cosmetics I wasted alot on .

Shotgun advice: Just get either the repeating or pump-action, and keep it on you at all times.

That was a part of my game here too, to not have all the pap in my wardrobe that I'll never use. But R* messed that up by giving us stuff just for logging in on any given week. For those looking to play this way, it basically reads like

'log on this week and get X added to your characters wardrobe. But if you're a player that doesn't want it, maybe come back next week if we don't give more sh*t away you don't want as we'll not add a reject freebie option'

Load of crap, lol.
